The season 25-26 squad thread 10:22 - Apr 13 with 26818 viewsngbqpr

*July 28th updated...*

I have included dev squad players who had first team minutes last season but not those (eg Tuck or the lad from Aberdeen) who've had pre-season minutes as realistically we won't know til we see the bench on Aug 9 if any of them are genuinely in the frame...I've made an exception with Esquerdinha unless / until we sign another LB.

I have now bracketed Lloyd and Dixon Bonner away from the main list due to strong rumours of loan / departure...and also Richards, as he seems to have disappeared again.

GKs
Nardi / Walsh / Salamon

CBs
JCS / Morrison / Cook / Mbengue

FBs
Dunne / Adamson / Larkeche / Esquerdinha

Midfield*
Chair / Dembele / Field / Madsen / Varane / Vale / Smyth / Morgan / Bennie / Sutton / Poku
(Richards / Dixon Bonner)

(* obvs in a 433 some of these play as wide forwards, but I reckoned it was easier to bunch them in here, and keep 'strikers' to those playing centrally up top and charged with leading our goals for column).

Strikers
Celar / Kolli / Burrell / Frey
(Lloyd)

As ever, please shout if any obvious misses.

Poll: Best hug a stranger / fall down five rows / 'limbs' late goals this season

All-
I think the Kelman debate deserves watching. I think the conversation of worth/ comparisons is interesting too. Kelman out performed Jay Stansfield and every other league one striker, in total goals.

Also, watching the highlights of the Stevenage 'game,' his goal contribution was hopefully a great preview of how his role and product has matured. I would have no dissent if Celar was relegated behind Kelman. I also hope to see Kelman called up for the USA squad too.

I heard today from a very reliable source we are signing a keeper essentially a back up one. No idea on the name. A bit surprised as we have so many.

Original post edited so as the current squad is available to view at a glance.

Please shout if I've missed anyone obvious.

Dixon Bonner missing but according to reports the club are looking to find him a new home so won't be on the list very long.

Good spot, will pop him back in for now, as minutes last season (however few) qualifies you for the list.

The idea here is surely to send Walsh out on loan, get him 1st team football. I think he's League 1 ready and not far off being able to compete at this level, certainly too good to be rotting on the bench. An older vet GK who's happy to be second fiddle would be cheap and give us that option.

On EDB, Dave Mc made a comment on twitter that plenty of clubs have been interest, but he's got an inflated view of his choices and where he thinks he should be playing.

We can't seriously be considering a new offer for Colback?

I wonder if it's a very low ball offer hence his not accepting it immediately? He'd be okay on third choice money but I doubt he'd want to accept that?

Here's the thing.......

If you offer someone £1k a week but they feel they should be getting £5k and they go and look elsewhere but come back as no better offers then surely they are signing up begrudgingly.
You are unlikely to have them giving it 100% unless they are of course the consummate pro... not many of those about in football I feel.

I'm aware t=of the LFW glossary so I wont go there but......

Players like this need to be on Contracts with heavy incentives from both a team, squad and personal level.
It's the only answer for me.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

On a non-contractual appearance based arrangement, obviously.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Yes, based on a peicemeal approach that pays an agreed amount for each tackle, successful pass, assist, goal etc. achieved by the player.

If we are it better include financial penalties for yellow and red cards

If you mean win/scoring incentives I'm not sure that would work either because presumably you don't get those if you're not playing. And frankly I only want him playing if we're desperate.

I don't disagree with your point in general though.

That’s Colback’s personal loyalty system.

The collection of cards is the modern day equivalent of painting enemy planes on the fuselage once shot down. Maybe we can get them on his shirt instead of the star for winning something….

I appreciate what he did when he applied himself but let’s call time Gentlemen, please.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Colback will be 36 this season. The DCMs will be Field and Varane, but we do need a backup. It's not clear from the rest of the squad, if anybody could cover that position. Would Jack be prepared to settle for being 3rd choice. And he was rumoured to be 1 of the highest earners. So the offer is accept being 3rd choice for 2 places AND take a huge wage cut. Say 1/3 of what you were on last year.

As for Fox, is he happy to compete with Akindileni for 5th choice CB?

If anyone thinks Colback and Fox are going to make any difference this season then you need to give your head a wobble I am afraid.

We need a left footed CB, seem now to be stacked with Right Footers.
Possibly a left back as I have no idea if Esquerdinha and Larkeche are close enough to this level
A leader in midfield who is also a little , we need someone in the ear of the Ref week in week out. Ideally over 6" in height

Either Kelman to sign a new contract or another striker

A replacement for Varane when he leaves.

So 4/5 first team players, not Dev or squad players.

All depends on if Eze moves or and what we get for Varane / Kelman.

Expect 2/3 frenchmen. If we could please find a Henry, Viera and Petit, than would be handy!!

A couple squad observations:

I just noticed that Adamson is listed on the offish in the first team, whereas Benni, Pearman and even Morgan, Kolli, and Lloyd are listed in the development squad. So that might tell us something about intentions for his role this season.

Charlie Kelman's insta doesn't have even a hint of blue and white hoops on it. A weak signal that he doesn't see his future with us.

Somewhat alarming that Frey, Kolli, Morrisson, Cook, Madsen, and Nardi are barely getting a kick this pre-season.

Am I alone in thinking the way that Nardi has been demoted is a bit weird.
He’s not old, he had an OK season, rather him than Begovic any day, and is better with his feet than Walsh.

Surely you can coach him to come off his line a bit more.

He’s slightly smaller 6ft 1/6ft 2 compared to Walsh who looks 6ft 4 but it all just seems a bit strange…

Unless there is more at play - he’s unsettled or Stephen doesn’t fancy him.

Only speculating on what I’ve been told previously about slightly different matters, but I wonder if it’s Nourry’s obsession with ages of players? Not a bad thing . It’s sorted the DS squad and their average age and the dead wood etc.
Is he looking at Walsh, his age and pressing the matter ? Now or never ? Meaning Nardi plays second fiddle whilst we actually see what we have in Walsh.
Probably not that at all, but something is just a bit strange about the whole thing .
Yesterday was either a face palm to Nardi or he’s been told they are looking at Walsh to see if he can cut it .
Either way he probably isn’t happy to not be playing.
And really, he should be our number 1 this season .
For him not to be is just a bit ridiculous .

I’m hoping it’s one of your points - that they’re just having a look at Walsh, which is fair enough but it must feel like a slap in the face for Nardi.

We shall see… and totally agree of all the things that needed shaking up, the keepers were way down the list!

I think it's more to do with their ages (under 21) and keeping squad places available.
