REFORM IN GOVERNMENT 10:01 - May 2 with 5518 views | johnlangy | This possibilty increases by the day. And certainly did last night. But something was said by a Reform person this morning that if they were to become the next government could result in a monumental constitutional crisis. Imagine at the next GE Reform were to stand on a policy of leaving the ECHR. Then they are elected and produce legislation to that effect. They get it through the House of Commons and it goes to the House of Lords. There is not one Reform peer in the HOL and the vast bulk of the 850 or so peers is made up of Labour/Conservative/Lib Dem etc etc peers who would fight tooth and nail to scupper the plan. I wonder what the public's reaction would be at seeing the 'establishment' preventing something happening that they had voted for. It is certainly something Reform would try to do and it would be refreshing in an odd sort of way (i'm not a Reform voter) to see a party actually do what they said they would do in their manifesto. And there's the crisis. You could argue that this would be the best argument for scrapping the HOL all together. Because in this instance many would argue that democracy is broken. Others would say the HOL is part of our democracy. Then the question is, does democracy belong to the 70 million of us or the 850 of them.

Anything is better than 25 years of socialist Labour. Perhaps Reform will support jobs, growth, tourism and business unlike Labour. We may even get major infrastructure projects started like the M4 relief road. Unfortunately we have to wait another year for the Senedd elections.

REFORM IN GOVERNMENT on 14:38 - May 2 by Kilkennyjack | Its nowhere near a majority tbh. Reform is an English nationalist party ….. so expect it to do well in parts of Tory England. At least 60% of Welsh voters will vote for progressive parties. Obviously the split vote scenario is real - Lab, Plaid, Greens, and Libs. But Wales will have lost its collective mind to enable a majority for Farage. |
60%? Surely you mean 60% of the roughly 48% who bother to vote? Now the brexit thing again, for brexit to secure our borders we'd need a competent UK government, can you remember the last time we had one? Your last sentence, that's a change in direction for you, almost an admission that Wales might vote for a right wing party even if it is through collective insanity. What's happened to change your mind, the wind direction, smelling the coffee perhaps? Labour got done in Runcorn, list a massive majority and 17% of their vote went to reform, the tories lost even more I think. Like it or not, Reform are rising and people have to be very careful and not just do a knee jerk vote, they should be very careful what they vote for!

I think a lot of the Reform vote will come from people who don't usually vote at all. We're almost certainly heading for a coalition in Wales next year, I can see a Plaid first minister heading up a Plaid/Labour/Lib/green coalition with Reform having a lot of Senedd members and the Tories being obliterated. I think Reform will struggle to get credible candidates though, I only just realised Aaron Banks was their candidate for West of England mayor. I can't believe thousands of people voted for him. They must be mad.

REFORM IN GOVERNMENT on 18:39 - May 2 with 625 views | Dr_Winston | Reform are a pretty terrible option, but when people feel as ignored and betrayed by successive Governments over the last 25-30 years then a protest vote is inevitable. It would have been the easiest thing in the World to prevent them from becoming the force that they have. Keep a lid on unskilled and illegal immigration, crack down on religious (let's be honest, mostly Islamic) loonies, build a shitload more houses for UK citizens and stop labelling your average voters as "Thicky racist morons" just because they vote for the only party saying that they will do the above.

Hard to argue with any if that. Peter Reid (monkey head or not) has a view on Reform …

REFORM IN GOVERNMENT on 19:43 - May 2 with 603 views | AnotherJohn | Reform has several unattractive features, but I am veering towards the view that nothing would shake up the Senedd like a really strong Reform vote in the next Senedd election. Voting for independents won't work now. The impact of immigration is reaching a tipping point where we will really notice the difference in quality of life if a cap isn't put on entries soon. I see no evidence that Labour's policies are having any significant impact. If you want to see the shape of things to come then attend the car boot sale in High St multi-storey car park one Sunday morning.

The elephant in the room is the right wing press. Because of those rich, aloof, entitled and self interested have pushed a narrative similar to Trumpian America the Labour Party run scared of the wedge issues and don't tackle them. To add to this they pander to the money men of the city. If the press weren't so despicable I'd hope to see a different Labour Party... I suspect I wont see it with this government.

Yes that's the usual attack line and has been for years. Have you checked the circulation figures for the "right wing press" recently? People are pissed off because they can't afford houses. Because they feel that they are getting pushed down the queue for basic govt services by recent arrivals. That their communities are changing beyond recognition without their consent. Because of their lived experiences, not because of what the read in The Sun. The Sun hasn't set public opinion since it saw which way the wind was blowing in 1997 and backed Blair. It follows it now. If anything the people who tend to rely on the media for what to think are mostly those unaffected by such issues. Guardian readers. BBC watchers. [Post edited 3 May 7:51]

But the right wing press are telling people they can't afford house's and can't get NHS treatment because of immigration and there are men in women's clothes trying to get in to female toilets everywhere. People feel like that because of the right wing press and social media, not lived examples because it isn't happening. Immigrants do not take priority over non immigrants for anything. Immigration is too high but the vast majority we desperately need.

REFORM IN GOVERNMENT on 13:46 - May 2 by Kilkennyjack | Why believe Farage ? 🏴 He promised that Brexit would secure the borders. No caveats about power, none. People believed him and voted out. I remember the famous poster. As we all know its got worse not better. Why trust Farage on the same issue again ? He did not deliver last time. And he wont deliver next time either, he would rather be in the US than Clacton. |
One simple fact why Reform may get my vote , they have never been in power, never screwed the taxpayer ,never taken us into illegitimate wars ,never screwed the economy , never let the border flood gates open . Your same ramblings about Brexit is like an old worn out tune. he never had the power to make Brexit work but the Torys were and failed and it now looks like Starmer is about to defy the democratic vote .hundreds of thousands or even millions of voters have had a gutsful of the two party state ,as Don once sang , there s a new kid in town. Reform now have until next year to show what they can do in local councils and people will be watching and waiting ,balls it up the the whole dynamic changes again. Imo.

I've not heard humans being described as rats by decent ppl. You are obviously not in that category. These terms were used against a people 80 years ago to de humanise them and you have done just that. You should hang your head in shame, but you won't.

The results have just proved ALL parties now have to up their game, even reform, as in 3 years their weaknesses/failures will be there for all to see, promising this and that, and then doing it, are 2 different things. it in thened could be a good thing for the UK after what you say is a pretty sh**ty 30 odd years....then on the other hand it could go all wits up if the parties fail to see the dangers of what is happening atm.
