REFORM IN GOVERNMENT 10:01 - May 2 with 11340 viewsjohnlangy

This possibilty increases by the day. And certainly did last night. But something was said by a Reform person this morning that if they were to become the next government could result in a monumental constitutional crisis.

Imagine at the next GE Reform were to stand on a policy of leaving the ECHR. Then they are elected and produce legislation to that effect. They get it through the House of Commons and it goes to the House of Lords. There is not one Reform peer in the HOL and the vast bulk of the 850 or so peers is made up of Labour/Conservative/Lib Dem etc etc peers who would fight tooth and nail to scupper the plan.

I wonder what the public's reaction would be at seeing the 'establishment' preventing something happening that they had voted for. It is certainly something Reform would try to do and it would be refreshing in an odd sort of way (i'm not a Reform voter) to see a party actually do what they said they would do in their manifesto.

And there's the crisis. You could argue that this would be the best argument for scrapping the HOL all together. Because in this instance many would argue that democracy is broken. Others would say the HOL is part of our democracy.

Then the question is, does democracy belong to the 70 million of us or the 850 of them.

No staff working in diversity, means no protection for women becasue they are women. They'll have to fend for themselves.

That's the bottom line.

Diversity the biggest obsession of modern times
Bottom line is the fact it creates problems we don't need
That's my lot anyway
I'm done on this subject
Thanks

I don't see how anyone outside of those demographics can vote for Reform if they understand the implications of them getting elected.

Let's be fair a seriously dodgy businessman with links to the Russian state and who wished death on a teenage girl came second in the SW England mayor election polling 10's of thousands of votes. He's not fit to even be a candidate but came close to winning. It's bonkers.

They won’t get elected though. Reform will never win a general election let alone a majority in parliament. It simply won’t happen. So there won’t be any implications.

The upside of this is the two main parties of this country who have had such impunity for so long to do whatever the hell they want to do are getting a massive kicking and at some point will need to start listening to the people they allegedly represent.

Many do , when the fear of being invaded by foreign nationals bought a nation to kick back and defend their way of life ,not to have to bow down but to stand up and be counted , familiar.

I was referring to explicit claims such as "we will introduce a 20 mph speed limit" or "we will increase Senedd members".

Reform are just exploiting popular fears that are misunderstood - including in your reply - and doing a grand job at laying the blame at migrants. The level of migration is too high and needs to be addressed, but Reforms proposed solutions will destroy the country if implemented.

The diversity policies aren't understood very well. Nobody should be discrimnated against but nobody gets and advantage. I'm an employer, I'm interviewing for several jobs this week, the best candidate will get them. There are no quotas and having employed in excess of 100 people not one has ever not got a job becasue they are white, male or straight. Nobody has been refused a job exclusively on that basis - it's illegal at present but wouldn't be under Reform - that's the irony.

The pint about Farge and his "if you work in diversity - get a new job claim" and the Reform policies is how many women or gay or disabled or OAP's voted for them? They almost certianly don't understand that the employee who has been told to get a new job will be working to help them becasue of their characteristics and not just black, gay , transgender immigrants. Everyone benefits from diversity legislation and implementation at some point.

Similarly with Climate Change issues. How many people in Port Talbot are thinking of voting Reform when the entire future of the area is based on carbon free industry and is likley to see an increase in emplyment from those lost from TaTa?

Climate change staff are also respnsible in many cases for small scale projects that make the area's we live nicer places. Whether that's due to less traffic congestion (queue the anti-ULEZ nutters) or improving city centres - unde rReform policy there would be very little city centre regeneration in Swansea. Castle gardens would remain the mess it is.

Reform are just stoking popular misconceptions and a lack of understanding, they need to be challenged on it.

We absolutely have to have political change but that needs people to grasp what the problems are - the super rich pose more problems and unfairness than migrants, but who are Reform blaming?

Your last paragraph is very true and deminstrates how lilttle people have learned in over 2000 years. The whole Western world is showing parallels with the Roman empire and the reasons it collapsed. Our politicians need to wake up because they are taking us towards disaster.

Diversity though, there aren't quotas but there is drive to recruit more from ethnic backgrounds, could that lead to favouritism, to an ethnic minority getting the job over a better candidate?
Climate change is an area I am very sceptical about, not because it's not happening because clearly it is but we aren't being told the truth and the super rich manipulate the situation to their advantage. Elon Musk has been forced to back down recently, long may that last.

No, its because he just says what people want to hear, he tells you whats wrong which is plainly obvious anyway, but has no idea on how to put things right and less so on how he's gonna pay to put things right, he's gonna deport all these immigrants to where and how and how is he gonna pay for it.

He's just a talking horse without any substance and yes I can't stand the bloke.

Well, other countries manage to deport
Do we simply lie down and accept this flow onto the country
Why didn't the " right wing" Tories sort this issue out and show some guts
That they didn't was one of the reasons we have this problem now and it's out of control
I could tell you much more and the public knows only half of it
I detest Farage for championing us leaving EU
It s amazing millions followed him on this issue and voted to leave
If he was for leave ,then you'd think we would have voted remain

I've never known our country to be so forked up with no politicians at all able to be brave enough to address matters of concern

I didn't mention woke so as not to add petrol to this debate

Farage against that too

Deportation used to be routine for people coming in ‘illegally’. Even Labour under Blair deported well over 90% of people coming in without papers. Their feet didn’t touch the ground. They were gone.

The Danes seem to manage. They granted asylum to 864 people in 2024.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Reform - mostly failed Tories. Laughable.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Under the Tories successful asylum applications rose to nearly 80%. It's down to about 50% now.

Deporting them is a different story now though, the worlds a far more unstable place.

We could learn a lot from the Danes, they consider Syria to be a safe country but we entertain asylum applications from Turkish nationals.

I don't fancy going to either country but millions of Brits will be off on holiday to Turkey this summer.

93% of immigrants aren't asylum seekers though.

It has to be said that your your already tentative grasp of history has now fallen to nursery school level. Just when in 1939 was Germany threatened with invasion.
