Goodison Park Memories Thread 22:06 - May 8 with 1785 views | SaintNick | AS Everton leave Goodison Park, whats everyone's memories of watching Saints there ? Personally I first went there at Xmas in 1974 and saw Middlesbrough play Everton, I cant remember the score, but I watched it from the Gwladys Street end, the wall at the front was massive it game up to your nose. First Saints game was 1978 in our first season back in the top flight, Saints fans were told to go in the enclosure, the terrace in front of the new stand rather than the Park End which was full of Everton hooligans. It was still a dodgy afternoon though especially after the game despite a 0-0 draw.

Goodison Park Memories Thread on 22:11 - May 8 with 1771 views | PatfromPoole | At the risk of inviting scorn for talking about leaving a game early đ I drove to the 7-1 in 1996, a week after we beat United 6-3. And was back in Poole by 9.00pm.

Goodison Park Memories Thread on 22:16 - May 8 with 1755 views | PatfromPoole | I always hated Goodison Park. One of my most gutting experiences as a Saints fan was the Hoedt own goal in the 96th minute which very nearly relegated us. Never saw us win there. Wonât miss the place in the slightest. Shite view and atmosphere for away fans. Of course, would love it if I was an Everton fan.

Goodison Park Memories Thread on 22:26 - May 8 with 1737 views | Southamptonfan | The last minute equaliser, Mark Hughes year, before we then beat Swansea to survive. That last minute equaliser probably did us a favour, in that we knew we had to beat Swansea, rather than just get a draw. We knew we had to win it. Going back a few years now, Alan Ball was manager and we got a nil nil draw. Matt Le Tissier was suspended. Stayed over the weekend in a hotel for that game. Upper tier for that one. And the Sunday late kick off, when we won two nil. Kevin Davies scored a cracker and Le Tissier a header. [Post edited 8 May 22:27]

I was in the upper tier as well for that 0-0 game. I missed the Kevin Davies game. And the Ward-Prowse free-kick game. Gutted to miss both.

Goodison Park Memories Thread on 22:43 - May 8 with 1701 views | MytchettSaint | First visit was in 1995, a 2-0 defeat. Didnât see us get anything there, then 2 seasons ago with the thought it might be the last chance I had to go there and make sure my boys got to visit it, I was there (thanks to Salisbury Saint getting me an extra ticket) to see our 2-1 win. Not a happy hunting ground but I love how close to the pitch older stadiums are. Shame to lose it but like the dell, itâs probably time for them to move.

Goodison Park Memories Thread on 06:31 - May 9 with 1516 views | Wints76 | My first visit was around Xmas 93. We put in a pretty awful performance against a terrible Everton side and lost 1-0. Got back to Dennis' coach and as we left, the radio announced news of a managerial change coming after the match. We all waited to hear the news of Branfoot leaving, but it was Howard Kendall quitting again. I saw the win last time in the league up there and a few draws, but that's it
Goodison Park Memories Thread on 07:08 - May 9 with 1499 views | solent_toffee | My first memory of Saints at Goodison was a 3rd round FA Cup game with Everton winning 2-1 against a very good Saints team at the time. This was when I first started going to the game and my dad always used me to games against Saints as he has a bit of a soft spot for them having served in the army with a couple of Saints players in the fifties. Iâve probably been to all of them since. Saints record has always been poor at Goodison with 7-1 and a 4-1 win against the Wallace brothers standing out. I was there when Kevin Davies did a Maradona in front of the Sky cameras.

Pretty sure that would have been my first visit too, although I didn't go with Denis on that occasion, I stayed overnight at one of JC's relatives so got a lift up with his mum. It was near Xmas, really cold and incredibly foggy on the morning of the game....typically we lost 1-0. We must have had about 300-400 there in those seats behind the goal. I used to really hate Everton, but changed my opinion on them a few years ago when doing some pre-match boozing on County Road. It was shortly after Liverpool had just signed half our team and I got speaking to several of their fans that day and thought they were a proper decent lot; bonded over our mutual hatred of LFC I must have been at least 8 times to Goodison and have seen us draw once and lose the rest. It's a great ground, but one of those I never look forward to going to. [Post edited 9 May 8:58]

Goodison Park Memories Thread on 09:36 - May 9 with 1363 views | felly1 | 1987, 3 nil defeat. Pissing down with rain. Most of the few hundred Saints fans managed to congregate underneath the concrete beam that jutted out from the home stand above. Miserable experience , never been back since.

That is quite fortuitous! After we won on my last visit I was half moaning to my sons that Iâd been there a couple of times and never seen us get anything and our record there was awful but theyâd been once and seen us walk away with a win.

When I first moved down here, Everton played Saints as he few weeks later. I went to the Dell and got a place on the official supporters bus. They were nothing but lovely people, I had a really crack with them, except when arriving at the ground, I expected them to all pile off and head straight to the pub, but they all got their pack lunches out and started having a picnic. I think the game finished 1-1. The following season I did the same and went up on the coach. Again brilliant people, and I was able to pick most of them out as Saints took about 300 tops on a cold Sunday in December when Everton won 2-0. I think George Harrison had just died as they played Here Comes The Sun at half time. Again the Saints fans on the coach were brilliant but it amazed me how they werenât drinking on the coach. A few years later, I travelled up with Nick and that was a complete different story and the nil nil bore fest which was one of the worst games ever didnât really matter.

Lucky you! Took 11 visits to record my 1st success of any sort, after 10 consecutive defeats spread over many years. And we were abjectly poor in all of those games as well. Factor in the crap view from under the stands, not my favourite ground by far. Finally got my 1st Win amazingly with đ€ĄJones in charge and Prowsey scoring. Next visit was LC 1-1 after 90 mins pens dont count as a win for me. So after all those fails I am hoping my 1st win this season in 13 attempts on my 13th visit to Goodison and extend the unbeaten run to 3 đ Might have a sneaky bet on us winning 1-3 đ
Goodison Park Memories Thread on 14:05 - May 9 with 1130 views | SalisburySaint | Iâve been there numerous times since 1978 and only seen us win twice For 78 visit, I sat in the upper tier of stand we are in season, as had been warned about standing anywhere in the ground, and Saints got 0-0 draw thanks to great goalkeeping from Terry Gennoe The first win I saw was in 1992, just 2 days after the ZDS final at Wembley v Forest Saints had over 30k at Wembley, but would say we had less than 100 in Park Lane upper seats to see Glenn Cockerill get the only goal in 1-0 win. Went up in Dennisâs coach The old Park Lane terracing had to be the worse view Iâve ever experienced, with almost whole people section below pitch level, and only those stood on barrier at back able to get a decent view. The only other win was 2023 when Prowsie had a great win and we won 2-1 In getting on for 50 years of seeing Saints home and away I think our record against Everton probably worse than any other team, Iâve certainly seen us win at Anfield, Old Trafford, Maine Road etc far more than at Goodison.
Goodison Park Memories Thread on 16:45 - May 9 with 998 views | Andu007 | Mid week cup replay Feb 1981, afternoon off school & we got the train up then a bus to & from Lime Street. OâKeefe I think, with the late winner, stood on the deep terrace behind the goal where up the front you were eye level with the pitch. The days when their old bill walked round with a metre long truncheon! About a week and half later we were back up there, I think on Foleyâs coach, to watch us lose at Anfield, could have been Keeganâs return as I remember large letters held up in the Kop giving him a warm welcome!
Goodison Park Memories Thread on 17:20 - May 9 with 974 views | InTimeAddedOn | My first visit to Goodison Park was for a midweek FA Cup 5th Round replay in Feb 1981. We lost 1-0 to a goal from Eamonn OâKeefe. Despite having Keegan, Channon & George up front and Stevie Williams in midfield we were disappointing that night. One memory of Goodison from that night was Everton gave Saints a decent allocation of tickets in the top (third) tier of the Bullens Road stand and after you passed through the turnstiles access to the top tier was by escalator! Bit like coming off the tube in central London. We were somewhat awe struck by this as back in 1981 you didnât have things like this in football grounds! Came back by train on a proper overnight sleeper from Lime St to Euston in the old Mk1 sleeper stock (no, Iâm not an anorak or a train spotter). Great way to get back as you could stay in the pub until closing time, then have a takeaway kebab and some tins in the comfort of your own bedroom on wheels followed by a few hours decent kip đ [Post edited 9 May 17:25]

Goodison Park Memories Thread on 18:59 - May 9 with 886 views | grumpy | I remember being picked up in a transit van outside the Bricklayers Pub in Millbrook and having to injure bone crushing ride to Everton sat on the bare floor with a group of us playing cards. Lost 4-1,I think Channon scored. There was very few Saints fans there. We sat in the stand above one end.Saw one Saints fan wave his scarf which attracted some attention from some undesirables. Police had huge sticks in those days which you wouldn't want to argue with. Stopped in West Bromwich on the way back, horrendous place. My one and only visit. My Grandfather was an Evertonian and moved South to work, and my dad was born here when he did. [Post edited 9 May 19:01]

Goodison Park Memories Thread on 20:31 - May 9 with 799 views | kernow | Once and we lost 1-0. The game was marred by me greying into a bit of a tĂȘte Ă tĂȘte with the fella behind me, sat in the corner of the ground lower tier. The whole game he did nothing but bellow obscenities toward Graziono Pele, p1sst me right off. Pre match beers with a couple of Saints mates in the homers pub across the street, no stress whatsoever. Stayed in the Titanic hotel down in the docks area. Coincidentally, the Saints team were staying there. Great weekend .
Goodison Park Memories Thread on 12:43 - May 10 with 554 views | luffy22 | Been there quite a few times but not for a while now, my sister lives there and her ex-husband family are massive fans, Like all scousers they seem to know everyone and we used to get tickets for the players bar after. Had some amazing evenings after the games. There is a pub outside that had a disco, we used to get rotten drunk and party the night away, with my old dad, god rest his soul. One of my memories was the 7-1, Singing we want two. I remember the nil-nil also around that time and if we won Everton would get relegated. Magilton was through and pulled back but the ref waved play on. Happy days!!!!
