Forwards are probably the most difficult signing to make, quality in this position carries a premium. Often it is a case of only releasing a player when they have a replacement lined up, this IMO has been an issue with our recruitment. A deal has been virtually done but the selling clubs replacement has fallen through so our purchase has stalled and this has happened on a couple of occasions. Take this a step further there is interest in Vipotnik, our purchase stalled so the Vipotnik move is held up. This has come to a head this week with a showdown between Vipotnik and the club. Will Vipotnik be in today's squad who knows, will he be sold with or without a forward coming in who knows. As I say it's not a matter of not having the guts, it's about trying to understand the reasoning behind decisions. |

I agree with your sentiments. I personally feel the manager has been shafted by the owners with this window. Goodness how he can his head around a team selection is beyond me. I think Sheehan has on he'll of a future as a manager but he needs Lady Luck on his Irish shoulder for the next few weeks. | | | |

We have recruited a large number of midfield options because as I have said before Championship football is now a 20 man game because of the 9 on the bench. The Championship is high intensity and the midfield run themselves into the ground and need to be substituted Grimes and O'brien were exceptions last season but O'brien did fade later in games. When we made the substitutions last season most of the opposition had strength in depth to bring on quality midfielders as like for like we didn't and often lost points, this season will be different. |  | | |

People are ridiculing you, they are basically asking you to calm down.
You said you have supported us since 78, then you would know all the highs and mostly lows we have been through.
We are now on the up and have got rid of a few and replaced them with better, yet you are losing it be because we haven't signed a striker yet
You mention losing fulton, cooper and congreve, well if sheehan wants them out then I am happy as he is obviously happy with his squad, he wants certain type of players in, players who wont rock the boat, players who are hungry, tented and dont cause problems, we will attract them as sheehan will sell this dream to them and if we dont get the striker we are after then so be it, it means that we won't get a bullied into paying over the odds and getting someone in to fill that spot that sheehan doesn't want.

We all hope for the best, but the striker situation is worrying. I remember the optimism as we started last season, when I recall you telling us that Vipotnik was "different gravy" and would score a lot of goals. It is fair enough to hope for the best, but I did warn you then that he wasn't tried at Championship level. I'd say our situation is round about the same as going into last season, except perhaps a slightly better midfield. [Post edited 23 Aug 10:39]

Sheehan shafted that is a crazy statement by anyones standards.
Signed 3 centre halves Burgess looks quality.
The best midfield since the premier days.
Galbraith and Yacousie look class additions.
Inoussa and Widdel look great players..
Staminic as well.
Wales will hopefully prove to be a good signing.
The club are trying their best to bring in a quality striker the reason it's taking so long is we are looking for an upgrade on Vip Yates Myco.

We have had some very good strikers in a number of the previous years but the pace was deemed missing on the wings. Under Cooper the midfield he saw was lacking hence the loan players, Gallagher and Hourihane, Downes signed, under Martin, the centre back were lacking, Darling and Woods brought in. The spine of the team has not been strong enough we had Ntcham and Piroe while we gave them the service at times the foundation at the back and midfield and tactics weren't good enough, I don't expect miracles this season but fullbacks are capable, wingers are capable, centre backs are capable and cover brought in with the loss of Santos, what looks like capable defensive and attacking midfielders brought in, we even brought in a young forward for the near future, the quality of the team looks favourable, yes the centre forward position is a problem but after the loss of so many players from the team at the end of last season I am quite happy at the moment, the spine of the team seems to be stronger.
I still think we need to have better up top in the starting line but it is very early in the season to tell if we have a viable fully functioning team, three games played and the games results have gone as expected and even the Middlesbrough game should we have got more given the first half performance maybe, maybe not. Not going to mention the second half too much, caught the game until poor tactics used to defend the goal from the set piece but called away for the rest of it.
Results as expected or hoped for so far, can only keep hoping that expectation are met or exceeded. | | | |
