About 10 days to go and we're suddenly back tracking. What, for me, has been a pretty successful transfer window to date looks like being flushed down the pan. We appear to be shipping out, hence, obliterating any strength in depth. And, astonishingly, now may be looking at utilising our current strikers as opposed to bringing anyone in. Jesus, we need two not just one. Wales, untried, young, who knows ? Cullen, well he runs and moans a lot and Vip, Derby was his swansong.
Bang, for me, goes any chance of success this season. Perhaps they'll surprise me and bring one in. Doubt it, been here too many times before. Perhaps we'll eek out loads of one nils with a goal from a CB or something. I'm just sick of all the false promises that come year after year. I mean, how stupid do you have to be to not realise it is what we needed more than anything.

Sorry but your post is ever so slightly ott as now is common knowledge we have missed out on 3 strikers so far to much bigger clubs.

One thing you can't accuse us of is lack of trying the window has been excellent so far and I have no doubts a striker will arrive before it closes

You’re saying that even though Sheehan , (if appointed a month earlier may have got us into the play offs with a far poorer squad than we currently have) won’t be able to challenge gor the play offs with this group of players?
Strikers don’t win you championships alone - the midfield does all the heavy lifting. Apart from creating chances a good midfield helps shield the back four to keep the ball out down the other end.
I think we will be fine and a panic buy will only be a four year drain on the clubs finances.

But that is such an incredibly negative post bearing in mind all the positive signings so far. Why not wait to see what happens by the end of the window.

Thing is, most clubs up & down the land are looking for a striker. Not just us. They don’t come cheap either, & unlike the previous regime, I think the club are doing their best here.

It’s certainly not a lack of effort but I think we may have been overly ambitious. Looking at what we’ve got now, we’ve watched enough strikers who would have dramatically improved us go elsewhere while we were looking for another level again.

I’m confident our recruitment team will get it right and we’ll end the window a lot stronger than we are today. They may need to temper their expectations slightly though. So far, it hasn’t worked.

It’s not, but there’s a lesson there as well.

If we’re trying to land the type of player much bigger clubs are interested in, we may get one under the radar, but the likelihood is we’ll keep losing out.

My guess is we’ll lower our sights a bit and still end up with at least one striker much better than anyone we currently have.

Have we missed out on anyone? The only one that we clearly had a real interest in was Kone and we appeared to walk away from that one. Could have been salary demands, or the player just didn't want to move East to West or any number of things. The others, who knows how much interest we actually had. I doubt if any went further than an enquiry if even that.

The transfer window is all smoke and mirrors - agents and clubs releasing information to the press to create bidding wars. After Dean Leacock I don't believe photos of people wearing the shirt until it's on the official site and there is evidence that the fax machine is working 😊

I wouldn't be surprised with 2 strikers in, one of whom is a loanee and Vipotnik out. Equally I wouldn't be surprised if we had one or none in which case Vipotnik stays. If it was the latter I don't believe that it would be for the want of trying.

That's completely irrelevant to the fact that we are infuriatingly shite in the transfer window (for getting what we actually need.....as the others bought this year are good).
As for exciting times....if we have no sod to put away chances then I predict frustrating times

Do you really think Vipotnik will be allowed to leave without us getting at least on or two in to cover? You’re the definition of a knee jerk reactionary fan - the sky isnt falling in you header calm down.

Losing Fulton, Cooper and sending Congrieve out on loan is the best thing as they are nowhere near the levels of the new players.

Two sides to this

Striker aside, this is easily the best transfer window we’ve had, outside of the PL, in my time supporting us. Constantly slagging the club off for not signing a striker is one thing, but reasonable people will also acknowledge how much stronger the rest of the squad looks.

At the same time, there’s not a single person on here, or at the club, who would have been happy with Cullen, Vipotnik and Wales as our strike force on August 23rd, if you’d asked them at the end of last season.

It will change by deadline day. I’d put my house on it.

Do not confuse "not having the guts" with the ability to see and understand the bigger picture.

Forwards are probably the most difficult signing to make, quality in this position carries a premium. Often it is a case of only releasing a player when they have a replacement lined up, this IMO has been an issue with our recruitment. A deal has been virtually done but the selling clubs replacement has fallen through so our purchase has stalled and this has happened on a couple of occasions. Take this a step further there is interest in Vipotnik, our purchase stalled so the Vipotnik move is held up. This has come to a head this week with a showdown between Vipotnik and the club. Will Vipotnik be in today's squad who knows, will he be sold with or without a forward coming in who knows. As I say it's not a matter of not having the guts, it's about trying to understand the reasoning behind decisions.
