Barry Bannan 15:07 - Jun 30 with 2750 views7374Ranger

I know he isn’t very popular with a lot of fans, but I have always thought he is a good player and is still going strong at 35.

He pulls the strings for Sheffield Wednesday and always seems to have a good game against QPR (last season he gave them the lead at Hillsborough and was instrumental in both goals at LR).

Would certainly be a decent replacement for Colback and seemingly fitter (less yellow cards too).

Probably would rather go elsewhere I guess.

One way to stop him scoring against us I suppose.

He's a much better player (playmaker) than Colback, who is competent but limited and far too often injured/suspended for my money - and, I suggest, the club's. However, as has been pointed out, we're hardly short of midfielders. It's the cutting edge I continue to feel edgy about, and how it's going to, er, cut, as I don't rate Frey very highly.

I'd suggest otherwise that we are absolutely short of deep playing midfielders. On the senior books right now it is Varane and Field, potentially Morgan or Mbengue but not primary positions

As for Bannan every year I doubt him due to age yet he still performs like prime Xavi and Iniesta combined against us. Maybe just to get him away from the opposition 11 it might be worth it

Yes, if he were 10 years younger, he would be in the Prem. He should have played in the Prem. Also a loyal player that's only becoming available because he's not been paid 2 months' wages. Spent a few seasons down in L1 helping Wed come up to the Champ and stay there. So, he knows the grind of the EFL well.

If he is willing to accept a one-year deal, then he would for sure help us beat at least the lower half of the table teams. Imagine him playing with Chair and Demeble, and you can see the attraction. He would love playing with Chair as well.

I doubt he will, though.
Someone like Wrexham will just give him a 2+1 option, and that will be the end of it.

I would take Bannan on a one year contract, wages permitting of course. He's not done yet and he's looked very fit when playing against us.

I agree. Despite his qualities, I’d rather we don’t look at anyone of that vintage.

Can't see him moving down South at his age. Strikes me as a proper Northerner

He won't take such a deal, as he doesn't need to.

Remember, the worst-case scenario for him is that he can go back to play in Scotland for Hibs or Hearts.

He will want a 2-year deal at least, but we would only offer a 1-year deal.

I'm not sure he'll deliver above the line numbers for the project deliverables.

I have it on good authority that Barry Bannan hates us. Turns rabid and foams at the mouth at the mere mention of our name. He would rather retire early than come here.
