Is the release clause ultimately preventing Eze's Sale ?? 08:30 - Jul 1 with 3426 viewsnumptydumpty

£68 million for a 27 year old, with limited international experience and never played in the Champions League or even European competitions full stop..

Are clubs not going for Ebere for the reason, he is too expensive. I think he would have been sold years ago, if this wasn't the case.

Is the fact Palace won't sell unless this clause is triggered, preventing Eze's Sale ??

I think so.

Oh yes another Eze thread, but thought this particular point deserved its own fifteen minutes of fame !!!

Come on fcuk sake - 5 pages of Eze sitting proudly near the top.

No further brainwave on him, including this one, would merit its own thread.

Fulham just spent more than that converting loans into shares.

PL budgets are obscene and Eze is more than worth it. After the season he just had £68m is a bargain.

I heard the main blockage is that Palace want the money in a lump sum, not in instalments

Yay another Eze thread.

I'd love him to go to Arsenal. The irony of them having to spend £70m on a player they originally had for free and released as a junior would be amusing.

Never knowingly right.

In answer to the original question, it's the opposite. A release clause means that if the amount is offered, the sale has to proceed, should the player agree.

In the real world £68m is an obscene amount of money to pay for a football player, but in the Premier League's economy it's a middling sum for a top player like Eze.

Ok got loads of abuse.

But dont mind a reasoned answer to a reasoned question like this. I dont agree with your assessment but I respect your judgement. That's was the point of opening up this debate to see how others feel this could impact.

My point was just Eze is not worth £68 million and am certain Palace dont want him to leave and if they are offered less than the £68 million to ensure his signature, its not happening.

That was the point - basically, as am sure this isn't going happen for that reason.

He is 27, limited international experience, no club games in Europe and a luxury player sometimes. £68 million for a player with this profile is too much.

£40 million tops for me.

But basically was saying this sale will never happen. The older he gets the more the £68 million is poor value.

But yes, sometimes this forum can get abusive, unkind and unnecessary. If it gives random people , a sense of entitlement then thats on them.

Was a point I believe is valid, all of itself as it proves this mythical sale will never ever take place.

Anyhow, politeness and good manners cost nothing. There are ways of expressing disagreement as against abusing individuals. But some of you think the opposite is fine. Never mind.

I know what's coming here.

If people.could stick the question raised ideally. There is no need for belittling and abuse.

Real Madrid recently paid £10m for a month's worth of Trent Alexander-Arnold:

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/may/31/10m-for-a-month-of-alexander-ar

It's about supply and demand. Real needed him in June, they couldn't wait until July when he would have been available for free.

I take your point about Eze's age and limited top-level experience.

But for big clubs competing for the big trophies they need players who can deliver for them now, and if they think the potential is there then they will pay the price.

Arteta became Arsenal manager in December 2019 and won the FA Cup in 2020. And that's the only major trophy he has delivered (Pep might count The Community Shield but I don't).

Arteta and Arsenal need to win something this season or their fans are going to start getting aggy. Especially with Spurs finally having a trophy of their own to gloat about.

If £68m means getting the player they want and putting one over on Spurs then I think they will pay it.

But let's see how it plays out.

I also think there are clauses in the contract that say this release fee does not come into effect until a week into the window and is removed a week before. This allows Palace to see if someone else can come in earlier with a bigger bid before some club triggers it and also allow Palace to find a player a week before the window closes if they trigger it late.

So, this is also a delaying factor in it being triggered. I think we shall know around July 8th.

zzzzzzzzzz

Try and dig out a sense of humour - we all know you have one.

The 'Numpty you Numpty' was obviously meant in jest - I can't see how it would be taken any other way - or is your username intended to be deadly serious?

And I didn't belittle or abuse you - I just complained about another Eze thread (while stuck on a very hot, immobile bus - so sorry for swearing I suppose...)

Worth pointing out, RM couldn’t get him for ‘free’ it would’ve gone to a tribunal as he had come through at Liverpool and a ‘training fee’ would’ve been set somewhere north of £3m. RM just agreed a deal to cut out that bit and get it done sooner.

That's a debt-for-equity swap. Essentially, a debt holder is exchanging their debt for equity. It reduces the liabilities of the club. No cash is spent. In fact, on that document, it even says "Non-cash consideration".
