Refreshingly honest and not scripted, love the story about the Superstore. I know we go on about the money they earn and all that but he knew he was letting us and himself down. The value of confidence is priceless, hope he delivers. I remember my Watford mate saying he was the best passer on the pitch at their place. Good luck Nico!

Real honesty about his struggles with confidence. I'm surprised in a way the club would run an interview like that - it's not your normal 'all's good here - looking forward to the next game' stuff clubs post. But, I think it's a good thing - we all struggle at times and good on him and the club for putting it out there. Saw him in some of those last games and he's got talent and vision. Really hope it works out this year.
Do you reckon they'll follow that one with a chat with Taylor?
They're only human and any self doubt has to be a real vulnerability to professional athletes. If he puts himself about a bit more, he'll be a good asset. We want him to succeed and yes settling in somewhere is harder than perhaps I'll ever understand, but now's the time to kick on...
I was really pleased last year when I started this thread about Madsen not being totally useless and it took off - showed we’ve got some of the most patient and fair fans going.
No doubt he was absolutely woeful through a lot of last year and struggled to get involved but he also started and finished well and he’s clearly got talent and is a smart guy
Would love him to do well here

I've not seen enough of him to really comment. But parking how open he was in the interview, it's quite the thing for QPR to put out.
You can read it as something aired to explain the challenges he's faced. Something to maybe make fans think first before having a go through to asking fans to get behind him and not add to his burden. All in all, a reminder of how fragile confidence can be in some. Good luck to him!
I wonder if we've got a heart-to-heart with ZC coming soon?

If I were a Barton type player, I'd be winding Madsen up if I played against him based on this interview
Boo hoo hoo, can't take the pressure, etc.
Which sounds like it could get in his head straight away.

So yeah, interesting the club put this out
If you were Bartonesque, you'd be getting dogs abuse, probably from your own fans, and if you started on Nico, you'd only end up pouring more fuel on your own inner self-loathing.
It's a doule edged sword you're wielding Glos, that will only end up with you in a crown court on abuse charges!

Refreshingly honest and brave interview
Appreciate the guys honesty and hope he can contribute in ways this season that he unfortunately could not deliver this season just gone.
He does have some nice touches and good vision also, and clearly is a player that would respond with an arm around the shoulder as opposed to a dressing down..
Perhaps Marti wasn't the man manager he needed and maybe Stephan will be more proactive.
You can see his qualities at times and he did improve and contribute more as the season went on.
Think he will be boosted by having his mate Jimmy as captain and I am hopeful without being expectant.
But yes decent interview and hope he does well this season ahead.

It certainly was refreshing to hear and interview that wasn't created in a sterile lab and written by media "experts".
As with so many others, I would love to see him succeed. Maybe, the manager needs to pick and choose the games he plays in to start with.
He may never be the last man standing in the "battle at the new den" but if he can be the conductor in chief when we dismantle a poor Derby side then that would go some way towards repaying the faith in him.
In the meantime, if he can turn some of that honesty into being better at the parts of his job that he struggles with then there is definitely a scenario where his signing becomes a positive.

Jimmy Dunne and Steve Cook put in a very good light by the interview. They picked up a teammate up when he was down, being both professional and human.

I want to like Madsen, as a player and, if not, as a man, but sweet Christ, does he need an injection of oomph! But then, when I look at somewhat comparable cultured/crafty players who've either not made it here or just done OK/blown a bit hot and cold, etc. etc. in the past, i.e. not setting the bar that high (Fillery, Osborne, Buzsaky, King, Brock, Langley - choose your own), I'm struggling to think of m/any I can remember I'd put below Madsen at this level for both creativity and industry. It's criminal to be a supposedly ballplaying midfielder and yet have so little influence (and balls) anywhere on the field. You can tell a lot from people's voices as to where their passion resides, or if they have it, and for me, listening to his interview, though I guess there's a bit of decent honesty in it, there's also a major cojones deficiency in the guy's acoustics. Even Andersen did better than him last season.
If he somehow steps up under Stephane and I have to mange mes mots, pour me a kir aperitif in wintry November and I'll gladly tuck in to my divisive lexis. But, to quote Roy Keane, your eyes don't lie to you. For me, it ain't happening.
This from the poster who endlessly acts surprised by club interviews being shallow soundbites... Here is an unusually candid player interview about his perspectives on a difficult season, yet surprisingly little to say about that?

Was just going to say the same, some nice insights into the dressing room dynamics.

I meant Barton on the pitch rather than his Twitter persona.
I remember him poking fun at Zlatan Ibrahimović when at Marseille. It proper rattled him.
Personally think it's may give him a bit of time with our fans as overall we're a supportive bunch.

Yeah, I knew what you meant. But you're still going to end up in court mate.
Trying to wind a player up always frought with potential to go nipples north. Vincenzo Jones. Player's tunnel at Maine Road. Kinkladze...a minute later, wallop, one-nil from the diminutive Georgian

Really backing Madsen to push on this season, his technical ability clearly not in question and in the interview he looks about twice the size so clearly has been putting in a lot of gym work this summer. If that helps him deal with the physicality of the league there's surely a player in there

The thread is about the quality and honesty of the interview and the insights it provides. Not another chance to take a pop at the lad. Give it a rest.
Yeah yeah yeah but we all know Stainrod is far more clever than us. And could probably do a better job in midfield too.

Aside from your odd reference to Buzacky not setting the bar too high, essentially agree with this.
What I find odd about his otherwise refreshingly candid interview is, if the problem last season was lack of confidence, why didn't he at least run around a bit? As a fanbase we have put up with the likes of Marcus Bean, so whilst we all love technical players (like Akos), we also forgive a little technical deficiency if a player tries. Do you need massive confidence to run about and try to tackle? Or show for the out-ball? If he did a lot more of that I think the fan base would be a lot more forgiving about a loose pass or being tackled. Its the perceived lack of effort which I think frustrates - if you are Adel, and making 40 odd goal contributions a season, fans might forgive the odd failure to track back, but you need to be bloody good to appear that lazy. Hopefully we will see a more dynamic Madsen this season and then I think fans would be open to re-assessing him.

Madsen at has been one of the worst players I've seen in recent times, but...It's really good to hear him speak and be reminded that he's a human with thoughts/feelings.
What I find most frustrating about Madsen is that the way he wants to play football is how I like to see it played, but he lacks the confidence/experience to know when to just get stuck into a game and when to stick to his guns and play his football.
I think we as fan's need to back him and give him the confidence to play. He needs get out of his own head and not be afraid to make a mistake.
I would love to see him develop into the player he's capable of being.

Ever so sorry - I naively thought a thread introduced a topic to which one might contribute a view, rather than merely endorsing the OP's (or your) position. Sorry for my misguided sophistication.
Lets use a foreign language and personal insults in a drawn out monologue. Then use words like 'divisive' which means to cause argument. The use of Lexis is just pure hubris. Cut it short next time and just put 'look at me moaning again'.
I'll make it simple for you, mate - it's called expressing an opinion. If you don't like it, ignore it, or tell me why you have a different one. You're the one who's 'moaning' in the meantime!
He can't tackle, is hesitant when even attempting to do anything remotely close to tackling, cannot run, hid on occasions and somehow it was the MC's fault! He's a big money signing and was nowhere near good enough. Last few games of the season don't count for me as some form of redemption, as there was nothing riding on any of those games.
When the pressure was really on and we desperately needed results, it was the likes of Morgan and Kolli who stepped up and contributed significantly more to our cause than misfit Madsen.
I would much rather we moved him on and signed someone like John Swift on a free transfer instead, who has signed today for Pompey. Excellent capture by them in my view.

According to one poster, this needs to be given a rest and is 'moaning'. However, as him and one or two others like to play the man and not the ball and single me out wherever possible, I guess you won't be hearing from him.
This from the poster who endlessly acts surprised by club interviews being shallow soundbites... Here is an unusually candid player interview about his perspectives on a difficult season, yet surprisingly little to say about that?
I'm not endlessly 'surprised', I'm endlessly exasperated. And I thought I posted a decently lengthy response to the interview. It's lucky I know what to roll of my back in life, as I'm 'damned if I do, damned if I don't', on this board, sometimes. If I post too much, I'm 'carpet-bombing' the place like some kind of Israeli warplane in the Middle East; if I donb't respond, or respond in the 'right' way, I'm avoiding something. Not for the first time, go figure!
Yes, in pro football, that interview will pass for searingly honest and admirable (as if honesty and authenticity were some kind of extraordinary moral values, the expression of which deserve applause), I'm sure. The likes of Madsen and Celar and Richards (I wonder what their combined salaries add up to each year - probably comfortably more than I'll earn in the rest of my life) need to perform on the pitch and show us they actually want to be half-credible professional footballers. Whether they can or will I gravely doubt. If I'm wrong, let's revisit this in November.
