Anyone working Recruitment / Talent Acquisition? 11:17 - Jul 18 with 2775 viewsPBLOCK

Hi all

I got made redundant end of May and am still looking for work

It’s brutal right now but I know that Loft For words sometimes has a habit of supplying a good deal of knowledge

If anyone one knows of any types of jobs please let me know as I am just desperately trying to get back working

Cheers lads and lasses

It might be better to start by limiting your focus just a little to what you're good at/qualified for/trained in. If none of the above apply, may consider getting good at something/some qualifications/retraining. 'I'll do anything' might be OK if you're cash poor and on a uni holiday at 19 but tends not to be a great look later on.

I haven't seen Wombat (Will) for a while but he was Managing/running a labour agency last time we spoke.
I hope you get sorted out work wise soon.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Hi

What was your line of work previously and also what area of the country are you based? Certain areas now have certain profile of jobs?
What is your preference? Similar to your previous line of work or something new using the skillsets you already have?

If you haven't already used AI before I would potentially look down that route. HR departments/ recruitment & talent acquisition use AI a lot more. They will use it to compare CV's to what their specific job role markers are. Therefore, use AI to help you craft a CV that AI will recognise, so to speak. You can also use it to compare your CV to job advertisements to see how compatible you are to the role you are looking at , and then decide whether or not it is actually worth your time applying.

My wife is in recruitment and got made redundant. She was lucky enough to be able to take some time out but when she came back, the market had changed. Companies are now paying a fraction of the salary that job use to command. It might be an option to get some contract work through an agency. Sometimes this is the best way into a company. You get to hear about potential jobs coming back and you are already in the company. In many cases, companies like to hire from within where possible. She wasn't even getting interviews for jobs she was overqualified for as they knew that expertise came at a cost that they wouldn't pay. She finally made inroads when she started to get a handle on AI and use it to help her

Yes indeed and most of us, sometimes its needs must.

I guess working in recruitment, you aware of using LinkedIn or Indeed or Reed.

Opportunity to link up also within previous colleagues or managers who may be aware of opportunities not necessarily in the public domain.

Or simply randomly contact appropriate employers with updated CV.

My son has just passed his CIPS (Chartered institute of Procurement and Suply) Level 3. He's only 20, got really good A level results, but didn't want the Uni debt so did the CIPS.
Anyone in Procurement or Supply Chain who has any jobs then I have 20yo Rs fan desperate to work.
The jobs market, especially for entry level jobs is almost non existent, AI wiping them out.

I know you have a condition that feels the need to shoot down anything, and I mean anything, I say in flames (and then laugh at yourself after), but I was responding to the thread pragmatically and practically. Obviously, an empathy overlord like yourself is so much more desirable to have as your wingman. Generally, people who try to tell you how 'empathic' they are not empathic.

Sorry I read the title thread as you were looking for someone in that field to help with your query and search for a job rather than that was the area of work you had come from. So you probably know all the AI stuff I said

I work in the people space and the recruitment market is all over the place right now. .

In general terms, leverage your connections; LinkedIn is a bin fire right now with pretty much all vacancies being oversubscribed multiple times. Frustratingly It was RecFest LAST weekend and the great and good were all in Knebworth to chew the fat over recruitment.

AI is fúcking up the recruitment space as both hirers use LLM to create unachievable job descriptions, and candidates use them to create unrealistic applications.

Feel free to DM me with your email address and we can have a chat in the next couple of weeks

You’re in a completely different sector to me but just wanted to say hope you get sorted.

Things aren’t great anywhere at the moment so fingers crossed and stay positive.

I think this country and the world at large is sleep walking into something quite serious.
Sad to say that RussianBot fella who was on here a while back might’ve been right on a few things.
Oh dear.

Batten down the hatches!

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Good luck with it, work for a large corporate, HR, Finance IT, Design all outsourced or off shored to Manila, India, Poland skeleton people in the UK.

People talk and worry about immigration, no one is talking about the emigration of jobs wholesale in services, admin, finance etc. Entry level roles in things such as Marketing all gone since Brexit and Pandemic. If you can work from home then you can work from a home (or office) in a low wage, no regulation country. If I was in recruitment I would be looking at Niche or remote working for Middle East companies like Saudi who are desperate to bring in Western talent

There is a bloke called Belk, who is head of recruitment at a football club known as QPR.

He also relies on the knowledge of a guy called Nourry.

Have heard a few whispers though, that they require extra assistance in getting the right sorts and the right balance within their staff teams, so maybe a speculative shot in the dark could prove fruitful.

What I would say though, is beware viewing a forum called Loftforwords. Half of them will question your parentage and the other half will know how to do your job better than you.

Hope this helps !!!!!

I used to work for a company that developed software for general recruitment, exec searxh ertc,

I wonder if a slightly lateral move might be trying to work for one of these companies as a trainer, project manager, sales, maybe even UI/UX research. Always good to get some experts in the field in to help with these things.

I've been out of this area for many years, I guess another alternative (and it sounds like this might not be the right time) would be setting up yourself, we had quite a lot of 1 person businesses. Obviously this is a whole other thing and maybe too much but always worth thinking about.

Good luck!

Has he tried applying for government procurement jobs, I was in procurement for last 20 years of my career and got full MCIPS level 6 in my early to mid 40s, which was a bonus as even when I took voluntary redundancy in my 50s, was able to secure other procurement roles in private/public sector. Having a CIPS qualification is a great bonus. Now retired from Civil Service but they tend now to advertise jobs through Government Commercial Function that are linked directly to Government Departments. There is a Civil Service jobs website, worth having a look, if he has not already.
