Decent player whose stats deceive his overcontribution.
Took time to settle in, which is understandable, but in the end did so and well. Helped us out of many scrapes and covered well for Chair.
But he plays and can only play on the left.
Here we already have ...
- Chair
- Kolli
- Sutton
- Smyth
Even if we sell Kolli, we still have three players for that position. Sutton is ready; he looks the real deal. This will be his breakout season.
On the right we have ...
- Dembele
- Poku
- Smyth
So, we have cover on that side, which is why Smyth is so helpful, as he can play both wings.
As others have said they will want a fee for Saito, we don't even need him on loan, unless we get a mega injury crisis.
If we have any money (which we don't as spent it on Poku) what we need right now is ..
LB - 1st team replacement for Paal
CF - Backup for Frey, who we know has a body that cannot survive the Champ whilst his misses molests him all the time.
DMC - Replacement for Colback, who is too old and slow, despite being very good tactically and skillfully.
This is where we should be looking right now.
Get these 3 in and we should finish mid-table, which is progress for this club.
Don't get these in, and we are looking at a relegation battle with a hope of 16th again.
I would also as the season is less than 1 month away, offer Foxy a very much reduced terms as he can play LB reserve and also CB reserve. And our CB's get injured a lot. Hes also very useful when you need to throw on another defender and close out a game when the oppo starts lumping it. |  |

Steve Bould was working for his parent club before coming across I think so may have influence but tbh we have left side covered. The DCM position, obvious pairing is Field and Varane with cover needed. The DS cup final stand out players for me were Morgan and Tuck, and Tuck has definitely filled out, so you could argue we have it covered with those 2 noting Morgan is less a DCM more a traditional M. Suspect this will be Tucks break through season. I’m hoping Collback signs for another year though, less about pace more about timing with him | | | |

We have to work under the restrictions of The Profit and Sustainability regulations so every pound counts in our transfer dealings.
Although I would love to have Saito back at the club I struggle to find any positive reasons for signing him in our current situation. As dmm says '' we have enough, if not too many players of his type'' and we have other positions that require new signings. We have to replace the Championship nouse and experience of Colback and Fox.

Last seasons squad was unbalanced with too many midgets as attacking midfield. We still have Chair , Smyth, Dembele. Vale and Sutton aren't giants. So where would Saito fit in - even if he is affordable. |  |

I see the potential in Tuck, but I am not sure he's there yet. Needs a loan in L1 and then we shall see.
Also, Varane may be sold in the future, so it would be wise to get the replacement in now, and Colback is not gonna cut it anymore, even if we did rely on Tuck. | |

I liked Saito, came across as a good lad, worked for the team, had some decent performances, etc, etc BUT looking at it in the 'cold light of the day' perhaps posters negitive vibs are near to the mark.

I loved having him here, loved having a Japanese player full stop to be honest and he was a bit of a breath of fresh air.
I don't have too much of a problem with his stats either. He took a while to get used to the physicality but then was generally one of our better players I thought. It's a cliche but if he'd had a bit more quality around him in the box I think the assists would be a lot higher.
But [Harry Enfield Angry Frank rant] we'd have to be absolutely certifiably mental to pay money for Saito at this moment over sorting out our other far bigger problems, e.g. scoring goals and running about purposefully in the middle of the pitch. |  | | |
