No longer PC, or 'inclusive' I guess. We now have a 'ball retrieval team' apparently. Surprised Nourry hasn't come up with more exotic name for 'ball' Any suggestions? Keep it clean please.

The worst is “batters” in cricket.
Alright if you fancy some fish and chips.

Glad somebody else dislikes that. Whenever a commentator mentions batters sounds like they are in a primary school playground.

I thought it's been 'batter' for quite a while.
As in 'the batter's Holding the bowler' s Willie'

When you reach the place beyond thoughts, the only thing you'll find is love and the only purpose of life becomes to ease the suffering of others.

Some words lend themselves to just staying the same as they work as neutral terms. Listening to podcast lightly mocking a commentator at the women’s euros referring to a player being a ‘talisperson’.

If this wasn’t a tired sub-Jeremy Clarkson attempt at a joke, and a broadcaster did actually unironically use the word “talisperson” then I will eat my hat. The thing about all the “you couldn’t make it up!!!” brigade is that they almost invariably do make it up.

With all the sinister and regressive abuses of language going on in the world, I’m baffled that people continue to work themselves into a lather over this sort of thing. The language might be inelegant but it’s fundamentally well-intentioned, and costs us nothing. It’s not the 1950s any more, women and girls are involved in public life, including (shock horror) football, and our language should probably reflect that.

My daughter’s football team still say “man on”,and everyone is happy with it,so I don’t think it matters anymore.
There was a trans player in her old team that had a very short fuse, and her opponents always used to call her “it”,as in “who’s marking it”.She had so many yellow cards for lashing out at players that she gave up playing in the end.

I accept that language adapts and evolves. If someone from 1700 walked into your pub, you'd have difficulty understanding him with the heavily rolled Rs ( come on you Rs), but I find it hard listening to some people today with their limited vocabulary.
Not good ol' Christian Nourry though, I'm happy to say.

Shock horror

Girls/women can also give out sexism or whatever “ism” it is to the trans community

They did it to gain an advantage by putting her off her game, and it worked more times than not.

They were ball boys when boys did it. If girls can do it too, why call them boys? It's not a gendered role so a neutral name is entirely appropriate. I wouldn't want a daughter/ granddaughter called a ball boy so why not change the name?

It's always noisiest at the shallow end

Same, if someone called either of my daughters a ballboy I'd be so so upset, it'd ruin my day. I hope something as horrendous and hurtful never ever happens

In breakdancing you get B-boys and B-girls... so ball boys and ball girls (ball children/kids) could work fine..

Worthy of mocking.
As the man syllable has nothing to do with gender.
The word is directly taken from French (I read)...

Steve Foster got the same thing when he came up for corners. For quite different reasons tho

Surprising a few signs like "men working " have survived the ax so far and of course the untouchable man hole cover in the roads/ sidewalks .
Sadly Mother has not survived its birthing person now which is a pretty big insult to mothers everywhere IMO.
Instead of ball boy or ball girl why not use ball kids it would cover it ok
