Number of asylum seekers in hotels has dropped from the 54000 peak in 2023 to around 32000.

Not a lot of good news stories around at the moment so nice to have a positive.

Yes I sense a new news management style. Hotel occupation down, private shared houses up. The wording an be misleading

Labour stated that 40,000 people "who had no right to be here" had left the country. This included 10k failed asylum seekers and 30,000 returning students who were always planning to return. .

The demonstrators outside RAF camps has made the Government look for private landlords and disperse the problem. The Senedd learned this a while back.

The blatant lie about returning people who are leaving anyway is still peddled by ministers.

Kept in the dark and fed yet more utter bullshit, I saw and watched a video talking in that dreadful Senedd place about their wish to have an open door policy and welcome asylum seekers here in their hoards, the sooner Welsh Labour are ousted and the Senedd raised to the ground the better, its taking up prime land right in the heart of Cardiff's tourism centre piece , much like that disgusting concrete jungle on Mumbles Rd, both Vanity projects built with public money.

Why would a government department go to an outside agency to procure private rental accomodation with 5 years of contract , utility bills paid and rents paid .Smaller amounts spread thinly across the country.Well done labour indeed.

This certainly doesn’t feel like good news — an estimated 32,000 foreign nationals with many having criminal records are reportedly living freely in the country. That’s an alarming number by any standard, and it raises serious questions about public safety.

Over the past two decades, more than 6.5 million people have arrived here illegally, many of whom have done so through unclear or irregular pathways. We have no way of truly knowing how many of them were properly vetted, nor how many pose a risk to the safety or stability of our communities.

What many find frustrating is the fact that illegal migrants are being housed in premium accommodation — such as 4- and 5-star hotels — while local citizens struggle to access basic services. Until the system can clearly distinguish between genuine refugees fleeing persecution and those exploiting loopholes, public confidence will continue to erode.

Ultimately, the goal should be a fair, transparent immigration system that protects both humanitarian values and national interests. But for that to happen, we need open debate, critical thinking, and policies driven by accountability — not appeasement.

Frankly, it’s baffling how passive or desensitised parts of the population have become about these issues. It’s not about fearmongering — it’s about expecting the same rule of law to apply to everyone, no exceptions.

Virtually none of them are genuine refugees. The system is being abused. Don’t blame them for wanting to have a better life, it’s the system that needs to change.

No non-contributory benefits for non-UK citizens. Whether that's UC, PIP, Housing or whatever. Do that and the flow stops overnight.

Does the 32,000 number relate to asylum seekers + those recently approved in Home Office- funded hotel accommodation, or does it relate to the total number in hotels supported by some kind of public funding. Some local authorities are using hotels for refugees (i.e. persons granted asylum) who have been unable to find their own accommodation.

Exactly this.

Few people have a problem with those who apply to come to the UK legally, obey all the laws, follow all the rules, assimilate and work in the system. I know a guy from India, a lovely fella who works as a security guard. It's cost him the best part of £30k, on a security guard's wages, to obtain legal status in the UK for himself and his family.

He'd have been better off rocking up on a dinghy.

Breaking news is that 2 afghan asylum seekers living in an HMO have been charged with kidnap and rape of an under age girl in a street in Nuneaton on July 22
Apparently Warwickshire police have tried to cover it up as they dont want another Epping scenario in Nuneaton.
Both are in custody on remand .

Sounds about right, with the small print addendum that those approved for asylum have 56 days from receiving the official letter before they must vacate their hotel accommodation. However, if these persons, who are now officially refugees, have no means of support it becomes the responsibility of the local authority to arrange accommodation for them, and there are reports that several LAs are paying for hotel rooms to meet this obligation. If that is the case then behind the apparent good news of a fall in Home Office-funded hotel rooms, the true story may be that the LAs are now picking up the tab for many of the same hotel rooms, but just not at the expense of the Home Office.

If that’s the case across the board (if imagine at least some have been processed and eligible for for work), it’s still getting the overall bill down.

As I said, a good news story.

Thousands of them will have integrated among the public by now, obviously this joke of a Government led by a very weak and pathetic leader will not have any idea where they are and we are now currently in the calm before the storm period.
