Kaelan Casey : A sensible option 10:36 - Aug 3 with 4799 viewsKeithHaynes

Looking at the niggle Ben Cabango has that has kept him out all pre season it’s a sensible choice to loan him for me. I know the Swans are targeting permanent transfers but there’s no sense in signing another centre back as he won’t feature once we are back to full strength. Waste of money.

He will have to make one hell of an impact to retain his place though.

Had a f bit of a distraction the last couple of weeks.
Could you update on the current squad…number of players….contracts…injuries etc.
Basically where are we before next week comes around?

Ben has missed pre-season, Santos also out leaves us dangerously short so I get a loan cover signing.

Both will also take time to get up to match fitness. I'm just starting to get concerned about what sort of a niggle Ben has got, how long he is going to be out for and how the niggle is going to be managed.

Makes sense, but any young player is going to want to play so it's going to be a hard sell to get a player to just cover us for the first few games and then be demoted back to the bench, unless Sheehan decides to switch his tactics around a bit which will accommodate three at the back

If I was the player. I would see it as a challenge. No better time than now, if he feels he can prove himself and although unrealistic, then why not? Get experience with another club, a different system and trying to cement your place in a position held by a Welsh international and captain.

It's a 46 game season. Plus cups. He'll get plenty of opportunity for game time. Santos will probably get less chance, but he probably knew that he was coming in as cover anyway.

If we can get the defencive players we need in. Will we try to move Fulton on as the protection of the defence shouldn't be needed, or will he see his contract out. I still think Sheehan likes him as a player on and off the pitch.

Didn't something come out towards the end of the season where people at the club were singing the praises of Fulton and his influence within the squad?

Personally I'd keep him around.

I’m sure he’ll be kept on. I know we all have differing views on him but he’s a seasoned pro who will have more to offer than just the obvious. After his contract ends he’ll be off though I’d have thought.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him offered a new contract next season, on about £5K a week and see him accept it. Providing we are still in the Championship.

I believe he and his family love it here and he has enough money. Half a million over two years then move into coaching.

Fulton would never been in a Brendan or Laudrup team. Pratley was a far better player but was not favoured by Brendan as he was not slick enough. By those standard Fulton is slow and clumsy. Cooper liked him but his teams were robotic and full of friction.

Fulton represent the decline of Swansea from slick nimble fast football to slow football full of friction. It reached its low point i with Duff /Williams surrenders and CCS where even Cardiff over ran Swnsea with Grimes and Fulton slowing down the tempo continually.

He has some value in causing chaos and breaking up play late on protecting a lead perhaps by making games messy. You do not pay big wages for that. Franco can do this but is much sharper.

Agreed
Fulton loves living on Swansea area!
So what
That's enough for him to be lauded
It shouldn't be
He should have been offloaded years ago but he's earning a good living with us

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

Anyone who has watched Fulton play under Sheehan can see he is a completely different player compared to when he was alongside Grimes. Do not judge the post Grimes Fulton to the Fulton alongside Grimes. Does he earn to much, yes but it's not his fault.

I comment as I see things
He is pretty irrelevant
Not exactly bad but not good either
So yes, one who should have been moved on
Footballers can never earn too much
They always want more, even Grimes the Great , another who loved living in south Wales etc
Right now and keep it to yourself, I'm dreading this season BUT I'm hoping my concerns float away on the breeze

Not sure I buy this. He’s the same player, O’Brien just suited his game far better than Grimes. He breaks tackles and creates gaps, Fulton does well in broken play. Grimes is always looking to pass. Fulton isn’t great in possession in tight areas and doesn’t demand the ball unless he’s in a lot of space.

I’m pretty certain that if Fulton went to Coventry, Grimes would revert to playing how he did for us. They just don’t gel well.

I think he’s been good for us over the years and would have looked better alongside someone like O’Brien, but I think he’s going to be a bit part player from here on in. Galbraith and Widdell both look a step up.

Pratley not favoured by Brendan? He played forty odd games and was our second highest scorer. You really do come out with the most bizarre statements!

It’s not a post about Grimes. It’s illustrating that Fulton wasn’t a better player under Sheehan, he was just playing alongside someone who complimented his skillset better.
