Paul Smyth - Last year of contract - New policy would be to sell ??? 16:39 - Aug 6 with 2395 viewsnumptydumpty

Smyth has always been a fans favourite.

However, in the same way that everyone loved Koki Saito last season for his endeavour, Smyth has shown similar qualities over several seasons now.

He seems to be an asset off the bench, in that he gives it a go, and will quite often get the crowd more positive and out of their seats, if games are drifting.

However, in the same way that Saito could achieve a fan reaction, Smyth also suffers by way of comparison with many, simply because his ultimate defining stats for the position he is employed for ie wide attacking midfield, in 115 QPR appearances, he has 7 goals and 6 assists.

However, also like Saito, he is rarely injured from my recollections - i could be wrong about that, but definitely last season, he has always been available in recent times, made 47 appearances but again, only a handful of stats where it counts.

He is better defensively than some of our attacking threes, but obviously thats not his bread and butter, to be measured by.

I like him and he is always a whole hearted trier, so unlike some, he does get a fairer hearing from fans as a consequence of this.

He is 27 though and ultimately could be a success at a league one side pushing for promotion or an option for a club such as Charlton perhaps in the Championship who are likely to be happy for couple of seasons just to survive in the Championship.

Has he been injured. Hardly featured in pre season. Not even in the squad against Brentford.

Have we seen the last of the multiple backward flips.

Do people think he is on his way out the exit door, or would people prefer him to stick around

Ultimately his transfer value will be minimal i would think.

£500k max for me as a sale.

Or maybe a season long loan with option to buy, could be the way to go.

Given Nourry's strategy, i am expecting him not to be with us this season....

Wondered what others views are regards Monsieur Smythie ???

Some players contribute more than goals and assist.

Keep him. We talk a lot about loyalty lacking in others but sometimes we forget to offer it out ourselves.

His workrate might be the difference this season.

He won’t sell for much more than we brought him in for, and I can’t imagine his wages are that high.

Wouldn’t make sense to me.

It would be a complete nonsense to get rid of Smyth. I don't know what possessed you travel that path.

The grass is always greener.

I don't think the club see him as a sellable asset, where players like Poku will be seen that way. I could see him being offered a cheap deal to stay and if not then being allowed to leave.

A shame, since he's one of our hardest working players and clearly loves the club.

I didnt say i wanted to see him go.

I said the club maybe looking to move him on.

He has hardly been seen in pre season. I wasnt aware he was injured. Maybe i missed the communications with regard to this and yes i agreed his resale value is minimal and he contributes defensively like players like Dembele are less equipped to do.

I said i felt the club, however will allow him to leave...

Ie he has been pretty absent from any communications and game time preseason.

I think it would be a mistake to allow this to happen. I agree with you.

Could see perhaps a season long loan replacing him such as Yang, perhaps again. Ie the club building up relationship with clubs such as Tottenham, as a place for young talent to be sold or loaned to. Ie successful so far with Kieran Morgan.

Smyth will stay as his stats aint great, but he is a great backup for us on both flanks and has the attribute we miss most ... pace.

While his stats are not great, they have been mostly improving, albeit marginally. So, he is getting better.

Also, he seems for some crazy reason for love it here. No one said footballers like Chair and Smyth are smart. No idea why they stay.

The club will leave it till his contract runs out as he's getting on a bit, they wanna see if he can stay fit and then what his contribution was for the season.

Valuable squad player that costs nothing, just like Dom Ball, who we let go to be replaced with ... Richards and a £600k loss (that would have paid for Balls wags no doubt).

zzzzzzzzzz

I’d guess there’s no issue as it’s likely there’s an option for a further year in his contract.

Dave Mc reported in May he'd be getting a one-year extension to his existing deal. If the club announced that they know it would play very badly on social media.

I think Smyth is a big asset. I don't care about length of contract. He wants to play for us and that's what counts.

Never knowingly right.

Paul Smyth was offered a new deal in May. There's been no update since.

Always been a big fan of the little fella.

I must confess.... I was surprised he didn't get more goals for us but I'd back him to score more than Celar.

As most have mentioned; he get's a rough deal from some but I think overall he's appreciated and his endeavour alongside ability is appreciated.
Don't forget the amount of free kicks he's won that have led to things, don't forget his tenacious work that has enabled us to see out tight games at the end and don't ever forget that he appears proud to pull on the hoops.

He'll do for me.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

So basically he has a year left, been offered a new deal, but no news of him signing it.

They probably trying to under pay him for his undoubted value to the team.

I hope he stays.

judging by pre-season he's 3rd choice on the right behind Poku and Dembele and probably the same again on the left behind dembele and Chair plus we have Sutton coming through. I like him and know he can do a job but you would not be breaking the bank for him at the moment. No doubt with injuries his time will come again

I would think most championship defences do fear his pace and trickery. Either as a starter or sub he can cause havoc down the wing

We have good wide options this season in poku, Burrell, Sutton add Ps to this that’s some good threats we have at our disposal.

captains fantastic

Indeed.

Without his energy and pace (leave aside his end product) this team would be even more easy to run through.

Smyth scored a goal himself and created a penalty which Celar scored from the spot in the preseason friendly against the French side.
