Sport Republic's transfer record 16:37 - Aug 24 with 1236 viewsMattFinish

This is a list of signings made by SR since they took over. It makes depressing reading.

2022/23
Sulemana - £22m – awful signing
Lavia - £10.5m – great signing if we hadn’t wasted his sell on
Onuachu - £15m poor signing
Bazunu - £12m – poor signing for the money
Alcaraz - £12m – great signing if we’d used him properly
Bella-Kotchap - £8.7m – utter disaster
Mara - £11m – cr@p signing
Aribo - £6m – bang average for the cost
Caleta-Car - £8m – awful signing
Edozie - £10m – never delivered. Another poor signing
Larios - £6m – poor signing has cost us £14k/minute
Orsic - £8m – awful signing
Bree – Free – okay signing for the Championship
Lis – Free – great signing for Goztepe
Maitland-Niles (loan) – utter joke, didn’t want to be here
2023/24
Charles - £15m – good signing
Stewart - £12m – complete mugging by Sunderland
Manning – free – good signing
Lumley – Free obviously
Holgate (loan) – Waste of space
Rothwell (loan) - Lazy
Brooks (loan) – half decent
2024/25
Harwood-Bellis - £20m – he has to do a lot to convince me
Ramsdale - £25m – great signing if we’d stayed up
Flynn Downes - £18m – not convinced he’s worth that
Archer - £15m – awful signing.
Fernandez - £15m – by far and away SR’s best signing
Brereton Diaz - £7m – dog sh**. Paid £10m too much
Sugawara - £6m for a defender who can’t defend – very average
Kayi Sanda - £4.2m – poor buy when we need experience not promise
Wood - £3m – about right for a bang average Championship CB
Edwards - £3m – we need experience not promise
Welington - £3.2m – okay signing for the price
Fraser – Free – good signing. I warmed to him when he fell out with Martin
Taylor – Free – not what we needed but okay as back up
Lallana – Free – past it and not what we needed
Matsuki – Free – the jury’s out
Juan - £??? – was cr@p at Goztepe
Ugochukwa (loan) – Good signing
Grønbæk (Loan) - Disaster
Cornet (loan) – Worse than a disaster
2025/26
Damien Downs - £7m – Looks cr@p but one for the future. Not what we needed
Quarshie - £3m – good signing but we need experience not promise
Roerslev – undisclosed – too early to tell but looks a half decent signing

I did a similar post last week and came to the conclusion they made 4 or 5 good signings.

Why is Charles a good signing? In his 3rd season here and not done anything of note. Hasnt looked good this season in the middle with Downes. Like wise why is Fraser a good signing ? Bought for the premiership and way off that level. Championship is his level.

Whats scary is that they have spent at least ~£270mill plus the dozens of ones for the futures. The players they have sold (who they bought) comes to about £110mil.

SR are lucky that they had the likes JWP, tino, tella and tino to prop things up.

Sorry didn’t see your post Butty, that would have saved me a lot of time 😄

I think Fraser is a good signing for the Championship but as you say not PL
Charles is suppose I was struggling to find a good buy so hopefully Charles should do it at this level as he did for Sheffield Wednesday

Who were your good buys - not a lot to choose from

Appalling record. Stoke bought their goalkeeper, who was outstanding on Saturday, from Rotherham for 2 million. He made some great saves for Rotherham, in the championship, so Stoke bought him, simple as that - cheap, experienced keeper. It's not rocket science surely. Sargent at Norwich is scoring goals and scored 15 last season. Forget all the meaningless data and meetings. If was the owner / chairman I would just say

" That Sargent scored 15 goals last season and he has already scored 3 this year. He can score goals in the championship. Give him a pay rise and buy him. Don't bother travelling to Armenia, Germany, Russia, Mongolia to scout unknown players. Just buy that lad at Norwich."

JOB DONE. Why is it so difficult!!?

The answer is that these idiot owners try to be too clever. They want to buy a ford fiesta and turn it into a Ferrari as if they are magicians. Solak would like to stand there and say he can turn water into wine. They fuss about, and we will probably miss out on anyone decent. And before anyone says it's not Solak, everyone under him keep making the same mistakes, buying young inexperienced players. And that's because all those under Solak are under instruction to make a profit.

The problem is that since the halcyon days when Paul Black Box Mitchell was our head of recruitment, and, arguably the best in the business, subsequent owners have bought the club believing it to be a lucrative conveyor belt of talent, bought cheaply and sold on to other clubs for enormous profits. But, of course, since Mitchell left, the recruitment has been poor, to say the least. Nevertheless, the owners still see this as SFC's modus operandi and so persevere and largely fail with the pursuit of big transfer profits as their main objective. Meanwhile, the everyday business of building a successful football team has been largely overlooked.

You recently complemented me on another post and different subject Southamptonfan and I will now return that compliment.

As you previously said “ I couldn’t have put it better myself “.

To say Sunderland mugged us off is a bit unfair. I mean, what other club on the planet would take on a player that is injury prone and soft as butter, but not only that, was frigging on the treatment table when we bought him. Absolutely ludicrous.

Must admit when we got promoted I thought Downes and THB would kick on but alas, they are simply good Championship players.

This season our defence should be ok, but we need goals to stand a chance of the playoffs.

Ready and waiting to mop up those European places......

If you add on the salaries and bonuses of the wonkers that organised this fiasco it gets even worse.

Roerslev was reputedly between £4 million and £5 million.

We shall see with him.

But I agree with a lot of the initial post.

Rank bad recruitment in so many cases.

Think its fair to say that Sports Republic's recruitment team are arguably the worst in English football.

It's embarrassing.

Without meaning to sound arrogant but I reckon I could have done a better job.

As an example we all saw Johansson play for Rotherham against us in 23/24.
We could all see a top keeper. Probably would have cost 1m compared to the 12/15m for Bazunu.

Not our recruitment team..oh no ...too clever for that.

My suspicion with Johansson is that his only slight weakness may be that he isn’t as comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Which would never have been an option with Brent.

Johansson was available when we won the play-offs, and Stoke got in quick.

The Stoke goalkeeper is not 18. Simple as that. Sport Republic are just out for themselves with an arrogant, tunnel vision view of making a profit on young players. Bazunu was young with potential so they bought him regardless. If they wanted the Rotherham goalkeeper they could have got him. ££££££££££££££££

Ramsdale - Great signing with a half decent defence in front of him.But even he struggled with that shower last season.
As the the results already start to falter, it'll soon be time for a substantial 'SR OUT Now' on matchdays.

Their latest signings confirm what I've suspected. Sport Republic don't even bother to send scouts out to watch players before they sign them.

Our recruitment seems to work like this: Other clubs phone up and say "We have this player we want you to take" and Spor says, "OK then. How much do you want for him?"
