For me, go three at the back, five in midfield, two up front.
Nardi
Dunne
Mbengue
Morrison
Field
Varane
Hayden
Vale
Smyth
Burrell
Kone

I'd start RND purely on the basis he has had a pre-season elsewhere. So therefore should be our fittest player by quite some distance

Poll: Moses Odubajo - Stick or Twist?

Madsen.... 🙂

Possibly fails on the second criteria.

If Madsen was more mobile off the ball, he wouldn't be playing for us

He is the one they need really, one of the only players we have who could make this game model work but he is just too slow and ponderous and too easily bullied off the ball

Dave

I reckon you’d really have to build the whole team around Madsen for it to work and that means everyone else would have to put in a massive shift each week to cover.

You would have to consider dropping anyone else that doesn’t cover well (like Dembele) and stretch the team to breaking point. That would probably mean more injuries than we already have.

I suspect it could work for a few games until the oppo cottons on and then we’d back to square one again. Maybe worth trying once or twice against teams that don’t press much but I think medium to long term we are probably going to see him to do a Celar at some point.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

I don't for a second think it can work but he's the type of player we need in midfield to play out through midfield, thats why they signed him

When we signed him Kevin Gallen said several other clubs had looked at Madsen and decided he wasn't a Championship player. Of course we signed him and what a coincidence he played well towards the end of the season.

Wish I could be like David Watts

He looked good in those dead rubber games where he had time and space on the ball, I think that may have fooled them into thinking he can do that all the time but as soon as teams press him he disapears

It's frustarting as he has shown a lot of ability on the ball he just doesn't have the spped or strength to make that count in this league.

If I remember correctly he played well at Oxford. That wasn't a dead rubber.

No. He came on at Oxford with Ashby and almost cost us the game along with Ashby who was subbed back off. Clive’s match report focused on that. Field played at 10 in that game and pressed Oxford high which they struggled with.

He played very well at Sunderland last game of the season when Sunderland were resting players and taking it easy ahead of the play offs.
