I'm not sure the game model allows complete formation changes.
Imagine it will be broadly similar depending on the fitness of some players but with personnel changes. Kone and Mbengue to start for instance, maybe RND if he signs. |  |

I doubt Hayden won't be fit enough to start. If he was I would rip it up a bit. Our forwards haven't worked for a long time so we finally ripped that up a bit. Field and Varane were awful at the weekend. Can't afford to wait for them to play them self into form. So if Hayden was fit I would have a midfield two of Hayden and Vale. Hayden better than both Field and Varane and especially on current form. Vale has shown he can progress play with his movement. I'm not sure what his defensive play is like but he has played lb for another club so maybe he can hold his own. Or have Vale on the left of the three behind striker. Hopefully he doesn't play cramp bingo | | | |

I watched a bif of the Charlton game against Leicester. I thought they looked pretty good, good energy (like Covernty?) so I think we can expect Charlton to have watched our game and try to press us lots so we need to have a team / tactics ready for that, be that bypassing playing it around or changing it so we can get out. I think a mix of both would be best.
Hopefully Kone starts, I've genuinely excited about a striker for the first time in a long time. [Post edited 25 Aug 14:16]

Charlton are all about defence at the moment and if they score we will struggle. They play a high press. We need to be solid, direct play a high line and get the most out of Kone who can battle and hold the ball up. Drop Dembele play Smith on the right, Kolli on the left and 3 in midfield with Varane or Field sitting in front of the back four properly protecting the defence. Bring Naardi back and cut out the pissballing at the back, if Leicester are not breaking their press neither are we. |  | | |

He was booked for it so the ref saw it and has given him the punishment he thought it deserved. He can't be retrospectively given a red card if he's already been carded for it. He may have been in trouble if the ref hadn't seen it... |  |

I just don't think Dembele can play effectively on the right for whatever reason. Left or in the 10 he's shown he plays a lot better, preferably the 10 as he can roam without as many defensive duties. I think it's going under the radar how much we're missing Poku in the side | | | |

A lot of question marks on where people should play/best positions and not many automatic picks on current form. I think Nardi should start. He was unlucky to be dropped and should now be restored. I don't think Walsh is the problem, but he's looking shaky. Mbengue would play for me, alongside Morrison, with Dunne and the new guy at left back. I don't want us to automatically play out from the back, mix it up and so Kone up front needs to happen. Field and Varane play but the 3rd is anyone's guess. I'm not against Madsen (if Chair is out) being that 3rd midfielder but no qualms if Vale gets an opportunity.
I think Dembele deserves to be dropped but we're lacking fit, and available options. There may be something in Dembele being more suited to the left given he played well first game and doesn't always have to cut into traffic as he often does on the right, so Smyth Right and Dembele left may be worth a go although Rayan left has his supporters and I'm not against that. Burrell to come on at 60/70 as Kone tires and depending on Hayden and Saito's fitness they may be bench options as well.
We really need the international break to build up some fitness. Would love a cleansheet Saturday first and foremost to build some defensive confidence after the horror show and hopefully we can get a goal or two as well. Team selection and whether we play out from the back will be interesting. | | | |
