Only time was standing behind the goal in the Ipswich end at the old Belle Vue ground in Doncaster, League Cup game 2004. There with Ipswich supporting uni girlfriend of the time. Town were trailing 2-0 to lower division Rovers so were obviously in a rush and the away end was aggy. Ball went out, I thought for a Donny corner, so I picked it up, and heaved it off towards the corner flag. It was actually an Ipswich goalkick, so Lewis Price had to sprint halfway across the pitch to get it and waste more of their own time.

I was not popular and the relationship didn't last.

I got smacked in the arm from a Munoz shot against Palace last season

My one and only time to throw the ball back was against Cardiff New years day in 2024. It landed next to me and I quickly threw it back to the keeper but completely botched it and it hit some poor bloke in the back of the head near the front. Like an anxiety dream come true, I'm still cringing at it now when my son regularly reminds me of it

Stoke away Easter 84, Rangers were warming up at the away end, someone was shooting in at Peter Hucker. A shot flew over the bar and fencing but came at perfect height to catch above my head. Only a few minutes later, same thing again, two clean catches! Got a few cheers from the Rs fans and Peter Hucker walked to the fencing offering me some keeper gloves

Having read this thread before going to sleep last night I dreamt that I caught the ball... away at Newcastle! No idea how the bloody hell it got all the way up to Everest base camp levels above the sea but I assume it must have been one of our efforts on goal rather than theirs.

We played Exeter City in a pre-season friendly back in 2013 - the ball got blazed into the crowd and I caught it, immediately wrapping it up in a jumper and pretending I hadn't seen it. It's still somewhere at home now.

I also conjured up a plan to try nick a ball off one of the ball boys at the end of our pre-season against Barnet at The Hive a few years ago but bottled it - ended up just asking him if I could have one and he chucked one over to me! Cue charging around a bit pished having a kickabout on the pitches on the way back to the station, still in my suit having come straight from work.

I remember my dad catching a ball and throwing it back to a player taking a throw-in during a Crystal Palace v Norwich city game in the 90s. He's was a London based Norwich city fan and would always get us tickets in the home ends of various London clubs (which is how I came to support QPR), as it was hard to get away end tickets during Norwich's purple patch during this period. So when his well aimed throw to a Crystal Palace FB led to a quick throw-in, which in turn led to a goal he was getting pats on the back and handshakes from all the Palace fans aound him and he had to pretend to be happy about setting up a player to score against his side! 9 year old me found it hilarious.

Can't remember the game. At LR and Lee Cook looked up to take a quick corner. I tried to kick it back and fluffed it bit time. I'll never forget the disappointment on Cookies face 😂😂

Andy Woodman famously hit the same fan twice in the keepers warm up

It’s in here somewhere:

A long long time ago away at The Dell I was sitting in the front row of the away end down the side when the ball came to me for a Saints throw. I held onto the ball and as Francis Benali who had been kicking lumps out of Trevor Sinclair came to get the ball and at the pinpoint time I throw the ball in his face hitting him straight on the nose. Well all hell broke out the stewards came in looking for me but as I was with about 15 of my mates and we all had had a few they retreated and decided against starting a mini riot.

Two minutes later Trevor ran alongside the touchline saw me and gave a big thumbs up.

Not proud of it but is a story I always like to tell.........

Bobby Mimms kicked the ball into the away paddock in temper at the end of a game in the 80's. I was about 14, but got both mitts on it. There was a bit of tussle, but a friends dad spotted me and bundled everybody out of the way, stuck it under his jacket and gave me a lift home. Lovely Adidas Tango. Sold it to my mate for £20 (they were £30 new)

Back in the late 80's, in one of my first Brentford games at Griffin Park, I was standing by the touchline, only a row or two bavck, when an opposition player kicked it out and I caught it. Player-Manager Steve Perryman, who was played RB at that time, stepped forward to take the throw-in and I threw it back to him (natch).

Thing is, as he caught it, he looked me in the eye and said "Thank You" - what a well-brought up young man!

And 2 or 3 years ago I was at Sutton v Newport County, very early season, sunny day, Tee shirt weather. Anyhow, I was standing behind the goal about 5 or 6 rows back, to the side, when Newport got a corner at our end. Sutton half cleared it to the edge of the box where a big Newport defender had a shot. Well wide of the goal, it cannoned off a woman in front of me, which must have cushioned the force of the ball, yet when it then cannoned onto my chest it really hurt. Reminded me of just how hard those professional players, even Lge Two, can strike a ball.

Feb 2003, our second season in L1, away at Chesterfield. Furlong scored to make it 3-1 in front of the away end and another player (Gallen maybe) chipped the ball into celebrating fans, straight into my arms. Presumably to waste time.
I obliged and held onto the ball debating whether I could keep it or not. I was kidding myself having never stolen anything in my life. I did manage to hold onto the ball long enough for the celebrations to finish and all the players to return to their starting positions and ready to kick off. It was quite amusing watching them look at each other to say ‘Who’s got the ball?”.

Just the once, as a youngster (1979?), I was with my Dad in amongst the home fans at the Dell, can't quite remember the circumstances but the ball came off Stan straight into my hands near the corner flag. 1-1 draw, Paul Goddard.

Not at any football match

But at the Oval T20 games where you get £1000 if you catch the ball.

Not done that but was in the top tier stand and one of the lads and lasses that shoot these tshirts all rolled up out of a shooter, and this one made it up onto the third tier where i was with my pint in one hand, plucked the rolled.up tshirt with my other hhand nonchantly out of its orbit. No beer spilt. Got a round of applause !!!

Tragic.

Anyhow i know a few on here occasionally go the T20 Etc, the pace that these boys strike the ball and some of them hit it with a low trajectory at immense pace and its easy to lose track of where the ball is - i am amazed no one as yet has been seriously hurt. It could really do some damage, i fear.

We were sat a few rows behind you, you might recall Matt Le Tissier getting a rendition of ''He's got a f***ing big nose'' which he took In good spirits.
I got officially warned at half time by a Policewoman that I would be ejected If I stood up one more time shouting and hollering, It was ridiculous she said they had been filming me during the first half.

Hey ho.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

When I used to be in the Paddocks, we had a rule - if the ball came over, you had to head it. Like had to. Mandatory.

One game the ball was on a perfect arc onto my mate's head, and at the last second the guy in front of us stood up and caught it, then celebrated with his wife. We were crestfallen.

On the way out we were bemoaning being robbed by a tourist.

He was behind us "I ain't no tourist, I been coming Rangers 20 years!"

OH YEAH, WELL WHY DIDN'T YOU HEAD THE BALL THE BRUV

Boils my piss to this day

I remember Ray Wilkins making a tackle and sending the ball into Ellerslie right into someone's face.

It must have been near HT, as he came back out again to speak to the person later.
I think he gave them something to say sorry.

What a nice person he was, I know everyone says it!

Surprised there are not more stories from those in the Loft or School Ends during the Connor Washington years.

I used to wear one of these and avoid hot drinks.

April 23 1988..QPR V Sheff Wed.
Me and my old man in the front row of what is now GL Block.
The ball was whacked out of play and stayed on top of the exec boxes.
I'd had a few in the Springbok so no problem.
Over the barrier onto the roof of the exec boxes and I threw the ball back to Alan Mac.
A gentle smattering of applause as I returned to my seat and a nudge in the ribs from my old man.
Good times.

Twice as a kid

Once during the warmup of what was David Seaman's last home game with us - standing in the Loft, I held onto it until he came over and I asked him not to go.

The other time, sat in Ellerslie at home to Liverpool. Steve Nicoll wanted to take a quick throw in so i threw it back over my head, up the stand. Got a cheer from the crowd and a telling off from my dad for being lairy.

I've mentioned this before in other threads, but I was in the front row of the Loft, and as the team were warming up, practising shooting, I saved one-handed from an Adel Taraabt blockbuster that was heading straight for the head of the person for whom I was a carer at the time. A minute or so later I had to jump up and do a full stretch double-handed save again from the aforesaid Adel. "Sign him up, sign him up..." sang the crowd around us.

Charlton, away, 2017. Drunk as a lord and my throw didn't reach the Bury keeper. Mortified.
