I dont get to many away games, but when have been there is constant chants and noise. Certainly impressive.

Usually get to southern games, some other London games and west country and Wales sometimes too. Was at Reading game couple seasons ago and was in the Reading end and seeing it from afar, you can hear how loud we constantly are.

Most home games are nearly full and any kind of decent showing and our fans are brilliant.

For me, loftus road with the atmosphere that can be generated there, its one of the best things about supporting QPR over many decades. Stafium rocks !!!

It amazes me. We're getting bigger crowds now than at times in the 80s when we were a top 6 side. We also didn't usually take many to away games back then.

Don't forget, in the play-off final, we managed to easily fill our half of Wembley, which was around 45K fans.

Even I turned up.

zzzzzzzzzz

I have a theory that there's a thirst for the dirty, gritty real thing - not just football, but lots of things.

It's a bit like the revival of vinyl record shops - of course most music is now listened to digitally, the sound is clean, you can get it virtually free online; but for some people the warmth of vinyl is better, and even the "inconvenience" of having to put the needle onto the disc is part of the experience.

With football, slick Premier League football is available in your living room all the time for the cost of a TV sub but it's not the real football experience at all IMO.

Have just had the horrible thought that if I'm right sooner or later someone is going to come up with Craft Football for hipsters.

Maybe that's what Wrexham are now.

Agree with this.

In a world where life is becoming less "real" and authentic, people are craving real and authentic things. Like your vinyl example, books are the same, for many. See the massive YouTube views people get by just filming their lives living in a house in the forests of northern Sweden. Most viewers probably watching from their city flats.

If you think about it, going to QPR is no different to watching them in the 1990s. The stadium is pretty much exactly the same.
I personally absolutely love it. When a goal goes in is there much in life that makes you feel more alive and in the moment than that? One of the few things left that's not sanitised.

Heard a West Ham fan the other day absolutely slating the London stadium (the walk there through Westfield, the distance from the pitch, the lack of atmosphere). Think what West Ham have lost by leaving Upton Park.

Not to say a new ground can't be done well, like Everton's.

The sleeve smell of a brand new LP, awesome and special.

Away games just a good day out with the game being an anti climax at times.
Great company and also getting to see the country and an education. Speke in Liverpool, the slag heaps at Barnsley and how little love there was for Londoners.

80 of us at Anfield opening game of the season 78/79. Away support has definitely risen. I think the LSA taking coaches and our stint in League 1 seemed to galvanize the support base.

Maybe I'm just stuck in the past but your 1990 comment is what I love about the place.

Only get to a few games a season but just enjoy walking up south Africa rd and reminiscing about my teens and going down there with my mates. Great times.

Many people I know who support other clubs are envious of Loftus Road. It's a brilliant stadium full of history and atmosphere. Hope we never leave that ground.

Look whats happened to West Ham.

Upton Park very hostile for away fans and teams

The London Stadium - not so !!!

Think they may get relegated this season myself.

We do benefit in home games, being a London club with cheaper seats than prem teams, bulk up the home support with several hundred tourists attending too.

It's posts like yours that make me shudder. We could be at Derby this week with 600, then Birmingham the following Saturday with 50. The number of close calls I / we had in the 70's!

But, the majority of the clubs were pretty much the same. Only Man Utd and Liverpool turned up (nearly) all the time.

Reflecting, some of it was down to money. Our 'mob' such as it was when I really started doing the away fixtures, had an average age of 16 / 17, many of us even younger, so cash wasn't exactly in abundance.

Poll: Thank God The Seaons Over.

Reason #1 Average age is much older, and away games are a mile safer than they used to be.

Edit...well that's two reasons

The same thing happened to a mate of mine after the usual defeat at Hillsborough. The copper saw it and said to my mate,”It’s your own fault for coming up here.”

Just on the comparison to todays attendances to so the 80s and early 90s it's pretty obvious why they are now up.

Match day violence all but eradicated.

I am amazed looking back that my Dad took me to my first game in 1986. Heysel, Bradford, Millwall smashing up Luton, general violence.
No wonder attendances were down. It was shyte.

Today stadiums are safe, violence is now minimal (but still there) and generally it is better.
I remember games where Loftus Rd was half empty in the PL it was like a morgue some games. It amazes me how full the stadium is now.

It's great.

We regularly had crowds of 8-9k in the 1st division before Sky invented football in 1992.The SW6 filth only had big crowds a few times a season too,and we sometimes had bigger crowds than them.
Hard for any youngsters to fathom that one I reckon.

Got told the same thing by a copper after the play-off final in Cardiff when we were attacked by their fans from the “safety” of behind the line of coppers!

One night game (70's), I was assaulted by coppers after reporting I'd been assaulted at Villa Park.
Farkin lucky I thought I was, got a split second break from the Villains giving me a hiding by mugging them I had a knife, ducked behind some of West Mercia's finest only for them to continue my beating.

Yeah, the copper told me to shut up and keep walking unless I wanted to be arrested!
I actually wrote to the club and copied the South Wales police and FL about the apparent lack of organisation and safety, I got a brief one liner from the FL, a very comprehensive letter from the police (that didn’t actually answer any of my questions!) and from the club?
NOTHING!
