We just can't score. We don't have an Ings, a Pele, a Lambert. Sport Republic have done it again. A massive squad, but we can't win games because nobody can score.

Yes, you make a fair point but who appointed the inexperienced, very young, never played professional football, as another experiment of potential? The naive manager they appointed doesn't think we need a striker. So appoint an experienced manager instead of the Russel Martins and Will Stills of this world.

Portsmouth were unlucky, especially in the first half, hit the crossbar and came very close a couple of other times, and their defence looked well sorted.
Mousinho was up and down, very vocal. Still was static and quiet, sadly starting to give the impression he doesn't really know what to do - definitely should not have taken Azaz and Fellows off. | | | |

Quite right - what makes me really annoyed is that we take a step forwards by signing an excellent winger in Fellows who has superb assist stats from last season and who showed glimpses of what he can do in the game today but who the hell is he going to assist at SMS? We don’t have a player to finish off the chances because, yet again, we have failed to buy the player we need - In theory if Stewart could replicate has Sunderland form then maybe we would have a player capable of providing the finishing touch but most of the time he is either injured or on the bench. As you rightly say, yet again SR fail to deliver on what is obviously one of the most important positions to get right. How many windows is it now since Ings left? |  |

It's common sense, that a young player who scored 5 goals in 45 games an inferior league isn't good enough. Keiffer Moore who cost 2 million has experience and goals. Fair comment SW, but I still maintain SR have failed to deliver what was needed, that being, a striker for the here & now, ready to go, proven record in this division, not another promising one for the future. Great to have that future planning in place but the simple fact is we need (going a bit Boris Johnson here 🙂) someone oven ready not someone that still needs more time / preparation. This is a brutal division to get out of and demands excellence for an awful lot of games to stand any realistic chance of a top two finish. I don’t disagree that we signed a CF but IMO one that will need time whereas we needed one who should have played his fifth league game of the season today and scored at least two or three goals by now and turned a couple of our draws into wins. | |

I'll bet a considerable wager that come January, a striker will be at the very top of Will Still's shopping list - once he's had more than enough time to find out that all of the clubs above us, come January, are there because they have a striker (or strikers) that score regularly at this level.
I think Will was pinning his hopes on Adam Armstrong being the player he was the last time we were in the Championship. Alas, he's ended up with the Adam Armstrong that played all of last season for West Bromwich Albion.
I can't see Ross Stewart making it through a long, cold Winter - not with his muscle/ankle/knee joint history.
Downs is a complete unknown quantity.
Of course, come January, we will be playing 'catch up' and we will, in all likelihood, need to put a stonking good run together of very good results as the season nears it's end in order to qualify for those play-off places.

We will be extreme lucky to get 15 Championship goals out of Archer, Armstrong,Stewart and Downs put together, they are collectively that poor.
Only Sports Republic’s doughnut recruitment team could spend £50 million in the last window and buy interchangeable midfielders and wingers when everyone could see that we needed a proper centre forward.
Mid table mediocrity and a long season awaits us ever long suffering fans. | |

I was disappointed that we didn't get a striker but that wasn't the issue today.
Defensively, we looked pretty solid I thought and the first clean sheet demonstrates that. Roesleve won't have to face Murphy every week.
And on the rare occassions the ball found its way to Fraser or Fellowes, we got plenty of players into the box and got some crosses in.
But we got the ball to Fraser and Fellowes far too infrequently and too slowly. Too many long balls to an Archer when was winning nothing (and inexplicably Stewart seemed to do no better - why can't he jump?) and nothing really doing in terms of attacking passing in midfield. That was surely Azaz's role today but he didn't seem to know where he was meant to be and nobody seemed to be looking to give him the ball. When they did, he looked good, some nice spins etc.
I would have swapped Azaz for Robinson on about 60 mins - I think he would have been able to link things up better and give their defenders something to worry about. 81 mins was just too late.
I have always been sceptical about Will Still and Johannes Spors. Two younsters who may not have much of a clue at this level. It's early days, but I've seen nothing to make me feel more confident just yet. | |

No, if he disagreed he wouldn't say anything at all in public. Instead he's been very specific in saying that he didn't want another striker.
