FIFA to eliminate one international break but make the September one into three weeks. Not sure how I feel about this and would the EFL have to comply?

Am I bovvered?

Having considered the question posed, I've arrived at this somewhat curt response, and rather quickly, too: fck 'em!

So we do 6 weeks of the season, of which 4 the transfer window is still bloody open, you finally get your team together and ready to go for the first game in September, then a fortnight later they suspend the whole thing again for three weeks?

Leave. Football. Alone.

Well that’s just dandy . At least we can bored senseless for a continuous block of pointless international dullness that most football fans don’t give a flying f**k about.

21 Sep to 6 Oct is only 16 days in my calendar, 5 days short of 3 weeks, so that break looks a little shorter than the current 2. Will still be 2 weekends with no League football as now.

Surely a Reform of the World Cup qualifying competition should be in order, especially since they've now opened the finals up to 48 bloody teams. There really is no need for top seeds to be playing Andorra, San Marino, Faro Islands etc, twice a campaign. No one gets anything from it IMO.

All the teams that made the last 8 of previous tournament should qualify for the next one regardless.
The semi finalists from Afcon, Euros, Copa America and the Asian cup, should also qualify automatically.

Make me president.

I don’t disagree, but it wouldn’t cut down the number of breaks much even if it meant fewer international matches overall.

I don’t think this is the worst idea if it’s instead of 2x two week breaks early on in the European season. I’d rather they did it later.

You can always treat yourself to a fixture in the extra early preliminary qualifying round of the FA Cup. I certainly will. That or somewhere in the Med.

no way is ideal really, if you stick with the current way you shut the window and take 2 weeks off then back for 4 weeks before another break thenanother one in November. This feels like it makes more sense, is worth trying. They did similar in 2022 before the last World Cup.

I'd personally go further and do a 2 International breaks a season. First one in November you play the 6 games you usually play first half of the season , would probably need 3 weeks for it
Then do another mid March for last qualifiers or playoffs

You can then start and end the season a bit earlier

Strong arguments to completly change how the qualifiers work but don't see that happening anytime soon

Or just do what they do with the AFCON and say "deal with it, your international players aren't going to be around"

Most clubs have the squad sizes to easily deal with it for a few games here and there these days, and it would give opportunities for the various puppy farms

Yes but, you currently only miss one weekend at a time. With two weeks off clubs will have less revenue and therefore worse cashflow for that period. They'll also maybe feel the need for a warm weather training camp, another cost.

Clubs will be trying to organise friendlies for their non internationals. The big clubs will probably organise an extra tournament in the Far East and make even more money.

Always bloody trying to justify the existence of their huge governing body organisations by tinkering with the game. Always favouring the big clubs.

I agree, let's just play on. Let league one and two postpone if they have a few internationals, as they currently do.

It would be pointless for the big clubs to go abroad for friendlies in that break, very few would have any players left

I'm sure they could still rustle up a team from any left out of squads plus development and youth etc. Just the name of the clubs is a selling point these days.
