Best flight/service/food etc on a plane on 06:26 - Sep 16 with 2659 views | essextaxiboy | Mr brother in law is seriously ill in Madrid , Mrs Taxiboy or both of us go out to see him most months, Since he was diagnosed we have managed to get his parents both late eighties out to see him 4 times . One is in a wheelchair. Ryanair and passenger assistance at Stansted have been absolutely faultless every single time , the cabin crew have been good naturedand friendly even when we have tostay in our seats for longer . I know they get some stick and their boss is a bit odd but I can't find a reason not to recommend them . If you don't try and bend their rules they are fine (Mrs Taxiboy has gone today for his birthday ) again all on time .
Best flight/service/food etc on a plane on 07:09 - Sep 16 with 2597 views | GroveR | Flew into Shannon once on a Christmas eve. As we're circling to land, the pilot comes on to tell us that visibility is below safe conditions due to fog although we've got enough fuel reserves to circle for another 15mins before we have to divert to Cork. Cue disappointed groans. 15mins later he's back on and says "ah sure look, it's still no better down there but we'll give it a crack anyways." Cue delighted cheers. Smoothest landing ever. Top bins Aer Lingus.

Rendang curries, Roti, etc. Had a long haul flight and then a short connection and got it on both :)
Best flight/service/food etc on a plane on 09:34 - Sep 16 with 2363 views | BrianMcCarthy | Fifteen years ago, I was heading over to London from Cork for my Nephew's christening and bought a bottle of champagne for him (and maybe he'd share it with his parents, who knows). Not thinking at all, I bought it in the City and brought it to the airport. Going through security, they naturally reminded me that it was over 100ml and that I couldn't bring it through. I said no problem. They were all apologies and asked me who it was for. I told them, and told them to drink it themselves, and no they wouldn't dream of that, and I told them to give it to charity, and they said fine and were all apologies again, and asked me when was I coming home, and I told them. And thought no more about it. Coming back on Monday they were waiting for me in Arrivals with the bottle and a card for my nephew. 'Tis a grand ol' Country if they could only put a roof on it.

Best flight/service/food etc on a plane on 09:52 - Sep 16 with 2304 views | johann28 | Travelled a lot to California back in the day, but since I hate long-haul flights I used to book via New York so I could break up the journey a bit. So, we were delayed out of LHR for some reason or other and missed the connection in NY, so had to wait in a long queue getting help booking a new flight to LA. Inevitably, there were people all around arguing with the agents and losing their rags - as if the poor sods could magically pull flights and seats out of their arses. When it was my turn, I joked with the agent about the mayhem as she tapped away and booked me a new flight. She then handed me over new tickets with a smile and the comment 'thanks for being so patient'. It was only when I got to the boarding gate that I realised she had put me in first class. Just sometimes, a little politeness and patience is rewarded.

Best flight/service/food etc on a plane on 10:07 - Sep 16 with 2242 views | PlanetHonneywood | Any flight that starts with, 'Would you like a glass of champagne before take off Mr Planet?' is usually a good one I find! The Gulf airlines have really upped the game, at both ends of the plane, rivaling (as mentioned above) Singapore Airlines and its base at Changhi; still the best airport in the world for me. However, I am going to go with an internal flight in Myanmar back in 2013. I stopped drinking milk about 10 years ago but if there is one thing that boiled my piss at 38,000 feet, were those bloody effing fiddly cartons of milk, that are impenetrable to gentle effort, and which require a degree of heft bordering brute force to open. And when you hit that sweet spot, it usually sees the bastard crushed and milk spillage out of proportion to how much milk is supposed to be contained in the thing. Well, not on this flight! Instead, attendants simply strolled up and down the aisle with actual fresh milk in a jug for you to pour. Simple, yet utter genius!

Tip from a colleague for when they arrive with drinks. "Have you got any champagne"? They keep it at the bottom of the trolley.

Best flight/service/food etc on a plane on 11:27 - Sep 16 with 2007 views | Silverfoxqpr | I worked in India on and off for six years and used to fly to Bangalore via Dubai on an A380 in Business Class. Stating the bleedin obvious but that was (literally) different class in respect of food, service, comfort etc. Prior to that, the first couple of times flew directly with BA. I remember on one occasion having my food order taken whilst still sat at the gate prior to take off. Something along the lines of 'sorry sir we don't have the beef or chicken today' which left prawns or prawns. I like prawns so no problem and I wasn't paying the 3K (at the time) fare but blimey, pretty poor.
Best flight/service/food etc on a plane on 11:32 - Sep 16 with 1982 views | HantsR | Leaving Saudi in 1974 to go home for Christmas and my girlfriend after months of working in the desert...7 day week, all daylight hours, no drink, women etc. How simply fabulous to see the British Airways VC10 waiting for me. It arrived in Dhahran from the Emirates and had already been drunk dry by oil workers, returning home like I was. The flight was fabulous, smooth with clear visibility all the way and the inebriated passengers were a hoot, sang loudly and had a whip- round for the driver. Huge cheers and applause when we landed. Cabin crew were great.

The guy we were travelling with worked for the MOD at Whitehall and before we got to the airport he said we were likely to be upgraded as he booked from a Whitehall email address. He was right, got upgraded to business class and it was fantastic. Plied with champagne until I couldn't drink any more. Food was fantastic as well.

haha, I don't know, it's been on for quite a while, and on flights from CDG. With some attendants you have to ask, with others they offer it straight away. You can always spot the opened bottle on the tray I usually ask for champagne for apero, white wine for the starter and red for the main course and they always give them to me :)

In 1969 an RAF VC10 thankfully flew us out of Libya, our Regiment were desert training when Gaddafi started his coup. An arrangement was made with the British Government that we could leave the Country unopposed. As you flew past the libyan coast you could see sunken ships In the Mediterranean Sea from the second world war.

But best was Qatar a couple of years ago to Bangkok. Got upgraded to First on the Doha BKK leg....didn't want to get off the plane.

Air France certainly didn't offer me any when I flew with them from London to Paris and then on to Mexico City. This is a post that straddles both flight threads, kind of... ..your post about Air France made me recall that 2-leg flight; on the first leg from Heathrow we had about an hour to catch the connecting flight in Paris. When we landed, we sat on the plane, waiting to disembark. And we sat there. And we sat there. When I asked the stewardess what was happening (this is topical!) she merely shrugged and said, it will happen when it happens. Great, thanks, I said, I've got to catch a connecting flight and the clock is ticking. She merely shrugged again. Inevitably, we missed our connecting flight. At the Air France desk the woman was all sweetness and light, we'll definitely upgrade you to first class she said, so sorry for the inconvenience. Then she booked me into a budget hotel because the only flight was the following day. I had to traipse miles and then take the metro to find this place. The next day when I turned up to board I told the person at the desk about being upgraded. She shrugged and said sorry, first class is full. When I boarded, first class was empty. And no champagne. Needless to say I've never flown Air France again. The other bit, that sort of relates to the good side of travel, is that a friend of a friend - this is absolutely true, I saw his passport - changed his first name to Lord, because he said it would ensure he would always get upgraded to 1st class; and lo and behold he did, every single time! I, meanwhile, have never travelled 1st or business class.... sob.

Bet that was a relief. I flew to Cyprus from Brize Norton on an RAF VC10 - it felt strange sitting on seats facing away from the direction of travel?
