Dunne v Stoke - thoughts? 15:41 - Sep 20 with 1900 views | BrianMcCarthy | Would love to know thoughts on this, as it will impact our season. I thought he did a much better Captain's job today. His most assured yet. He managed the ref well, which is not easy from right-back. He was more assertive dealing with his team-mates (maybe less excitable as he sttles into the role?). He looked far more confident in himself? And today he had a tough, tough job on their best player as well. He handled their biggest threat very well in the first half. Then went through a tough 5-10 minutes in the second. Can I ask - was he then put on a man-marking job? With Hayden coming on to cover/shade the space? Because after that, he won the duel again, until injury-time...where maybe we lost fitness as a team (only one sub) or maybe lost composure?

That was a mistake as he got zero change out of Saito’s energy and RND’s positional awareness Dunne is, as usual, playing his way into the season. He’s taken the armband duties into his locker and does them really well; however in prior seasons I’ve always thought he’s one of those who gets better as the season matures. I’ll stick with backing him a tenner anytime as I’m still well in profit on him

Dunne v Stoke - thoughts? on 15:57 - Sep 20 with 1664 views | W9R | I agree with everything you said except the stuff about the second half. Jimmy had a torrid second half, the only productivity they had came from the left wing and Jimmy was getting turned again and again. Seemed he was too often in a 1 against two situation with overlapping left backs providing options no one else in hoops was covering. But as a skipper he was magnificent, time after time trotting over to handle the ref at free kicks under relentless pressure from Stoke players for cards and a bit of throw in "another yard, dummy the throw, another yard, repeat" ref wind ups for good measure.. :-))
Dunne v Stoke - thoughts? on 16:01 - Sep 20 with 1611 views | Rsole | Brian I have absolutely no evidence of this but my guess is that he’s carrying a niggling injury but is playing regardless, probably with some painkillers. Might explain his reduced mobility and speed, but if it’s something like his hip then it could also explain his reduction in dominating headers. Assume he wants to play as captain and today he was on a mission to prove that role is his. Could have done with some more cover given how effective Sorba Thomas can be but I thought Hayden was simply a much better version of Varane today, which meant Morrison could help out and Vale did a bit more later on too. Probably be proven completely wrong now but that’s my hypothesis based on what I’ve seen to date this season and today he was up against one the better players we have faced.

Dunne v Stoke - thoughts? on 16:24 - Sep 20 with 1336 views | Paddyhoops | Not his greatest game but he has a slow start last season as well . I said on another thread that he Marshall the troops well and let’s be fair , this is a very decent Stoke side . Jimmy is one of the elder statesmen in the side and he’s 27 . That speaks volumes for the potential of this team . Exciting times.
Dunne v Stoke - thoughts? on 16:37 - Sep 20 with 1214 views | Toast_R | Apart from getting bamboozled leading to the cross Sorba Thomas got off leading to Stoke missing the chance of the match, he was very good. I thought Sorba Thomas had been subbed out second half because he completely went missing.
Dunne v Stoke - thoughts? on 17:08 - Sep 20 with 1093 views | ChrisNW6 | At 27yrs Jimmy was the oldest outfield player for us, until the sub. Thought he did his captain duties really well today, adds so much with his height and calm head.
Dunne v Stoke - thoughts? on 17:23 - Sep 20 with 996 views | Esox_Lucius | Not his best game by a distance but his teammates made sure that it didn't matter. For me, Saito terrified the Stoke players all over park and was comfortably MOTM for me. Vale, Madsen, Burrell, Mbengue and Varane all close too.

Dunne v Stoke - thoughts? on 17:39 - Sep 20 with 917 views | terryb | I thought that Thomas took him apart the whole game, but Jimmy kept going & improved as the match was nearing the end. I'm sorry to say that today was back to his displays prior to playing at right back away to Bristol City, but I don't think we have any real competition for the position.

That's what I thought too. Thomas has been on fire and was getting frustrated today.
Dunne v Stoke - thoughts? on 17:44 - Sep 20 with 850 views | FDC | Thought the same re his captain role today, and a lot of speaking to the ref. On the stream you could see him gesturing to someone to calm down whilst he spoke to the ref after Mbengue's late challenge on Pearson. Re marking Thomas, Lee Cook mentioned that there was a marked change about ten minutes into the second half where Dunne moved further wide to man mark Thomas, and it did seem to stem the tide at a time when Stoke were on top. Thomas did then fade from the game for a while, switching sides a couple of times to try to find space.

His best game so far this season, I thought he and Vale handled Thomas really well who has been. flying they looked to cut him off at source and give him no space. The one time he got away from him they should have scored
Dunne v Stoke - thoughts? on 18:36 - Sep 20 with 615 views | numptydumpty | Yes interesting you raise this Brian. I think like a lot of players in many different sports, the burden of captaincy does often mean the focus on the captains actual game falls off a little. And personally i think this has happened a bit with Jimmy this season. He stood out last season as a player, although we did have many players that weren't showing any kind.of form whatsoever and any player having a positive impact would have been very apparent then. Its a difficult job to captain this team for Jimmy, simply because we have so many players coming from a very varied types of backgrounds and cultures. The way you wpuld captain Madsen as opposed to captain a character like Mbuenge obviously requires a very different approach and i think from what i can see he is doing a decent job. Today with Thomas to mark especially against his pace and skill being far removed from Jimmys qualities. I do feel he is struggling a little with the pace demons in opponents but he is still pretty solid. I think perhaps if this squad remains relatively unchanged this season, can see a more pacy technical right back being recruited im the summer and possibly he moves on. Just all the changes make me think this. Still a great servant for our club and seems he dodged a bullet as to not being on Sheffield Uniteds radar. Whatever happens with Jimmy, will always be looked back to, very fondly in years ahead. Definitely our current Mr QPR and am glad he is still with us. [Post edited 20 Sep 18:45]

Dunne v Stoke - thoughts? on 20:45 - Sep 20 with 331 views | LazyFan | Was roasted by Thomas for the first few mins of the second half, then sorted it out by stepping right onto Thomas and then kept with him and it was job done. This is why they moved Thomas over to the other side as Dunne had worked him out. Sure took some time, but he did it.
