Long chat with Hull fan 09:19 - Sep 21 with 1199 views | 1teeminants | Yesterday a guy about 70 I guess lovely genuine bloke . It was interesting to know his thoughts. He said he couldn’t believe we just didn’t show up he said our teams in the 60 ‘s and 70’s were never like this we talked about big John McGrath, Channon ,Paine ,Ron Davies etc . He said we had no bite in midfield . He said We had better players than Hull and 9 times out of 10 we would beat them but it was just too easy for them. He also said the first 15/20 minutes of the second half he was really worried because saints did look good and you could see the class on the ball but there’s just no aggression or passion . I agreed with everything he said . He’s not wrong is he. ? I can’t see Will Still being a good motivator in the dressing room but then I remember seeing a clip of him at his previous club really laying into the players and swearing at them .

Long chat with Hull fan on 09:31 - Sep 21 with 1131 views | saintwizzler | Do you think a twenty something millionaire is going to listen to a 32 year old, boring, monotoned ginger track suited geek who has never kicked a professional football in his life!? I bet the players rip the piss out of him behind his back. It was a mistake appointing him in the first place but he, like others, should be given a fair crack of the whip. Time is running out now for Still. Trouble is who will the next manager be? Under these clowns you know it’s going to be Lallana. At least he’s been there and done it and got the medals. Cooper, Dyche or Röhl should have been this season’s manager.
| We thought that we had the answers,
It was the questions we had wrong. |

I agree that everyone needs to be given a fair crack of the whip. I also know that these clowns have a track record in relation to ALL the previous recent managers of not getting rid soon enough when it was clear that a manager was not cutting it. I would give Still 4 more league game. That would be Boro and Swansea at home and Sheff U and Derby away. This is a pretty low bar, but less than 5 points from those games and, for me, he should go. Personally, I don't think he'll achieve that.

Like you I never wanted Still, he had done nothing to suggest he should manage us. However like you say wanted him to do well and get us in the play offs. He has had his excuses ( seems to be every week he comes out with one) but he’s run out of them now. The club have got the players he wanted hes been here since May. Performances on the pitch what count. The fact is we are getting worse not better with him as the weeks go by. We were discussing on the way back it’s when not if Still gets the sack. Do the loons keep him until our play offs challenge officially ends, do they make a change now with the hope we can turn the season around. But like you said it will be Lallana and probably Trollope or some other no mark. As I think Southamptonfan pointed out it’s Sport Republic are the issue and they seem to be getting away with any criticism from the fans. Lowe got a song about him swinging from the Itchen bridge but Dragan a co have arguably been worse . I read earlier we are fast becoming another Watford and I agree , under Dragan weve had : Hasenhüttl, Jones, Sellés, Martin, Juric, Rusk and Still that’s 7 manages in the 4 years or so since the loons have owned us. By the end of the season it will be 8. And they lies half the problem.

As you say here, it is pretty nailed on it being a case of when, not if he is sacked. So best to do it now surely?

Any manager needs at least 10 games with a new team . What I find annoying is when players perform well we seem to drop them which is just weird. It happened with Sam Ayeow and now Robinson. Both good exciting, creative ,attacking players Left out .

I was worried that the signings we made were going to create a problem for Robinson. Utter madness that we didn’t go for a striker instead of overloading with wingers.

Long chat with Hull fan on 11:40 - Sep 21 with 737 views | Bridders2 | To me this game at Hull has been our watershed moment, the point in the season when the majority of saints fans (but not the owners) realise that the coach can't cut the mustard. He's out of his depth and can't create a winning team, exactly the same moment when we were tonked by Bournemouth early last season...we knew then that Martin didn't have a clue about how to survive in the PL. As said above he should get 10 games, but that has got to be the cut off time. Let's hope the owners get it this time. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

He had a big buy out clause, but we made £65m profit on sales this season so we would have had the money. Alternatively we could have got Rohl and not bought Downs, just plain bad decision making all round.

Normally I would agree about giving a new man at least 10 games, but sorry to say in this case I just cannot see where his tactics/game plan are. Our set up, shape, formation, call it what you will, are just meaningless. I am sorry to say I cannot see him turning it around.

Because we have terrible owners. This is always the answer to the why questions. Danny Rohl was a lot more expensive than the cheap Will Still.

Still (allegedly) got all the players he wanted in the transfer window, so there really is no excuse. We should now be playing the way he wants, with his players. What we actually get is Martinesque tippy tappy possession based fannying around until we get closed down and then it is hoofed towards a small or incapable front man and we lose possession. Repeat...... Yesterday we showed glimpses of what we can do with some good possession and passing, but as is often the case, we are our own worst enemies and engineered our own downfall. Goals change games. We gifted Hull 2, if not all 3 goals, with piss poor keeping and defending. At the other end, we missed our best chance to get back to 1-1, in fact Downs didn't even hit the target. I think Archer would have done better with that chance, but he didn't get any service like that against the skates and got dropped. When we did start creating chances, the damage had already been done and Hull were sitting back anyway. As for Robinson and a few of the other now fringe players, they will probably get baptism of fire stating berths on Tuesday night !!

Agreed we have terrible owners - if we got all the village idiots from every village in the UK and brought them all to live in Southampton, SR would still be the village idiots… Whilst Still was the cheaper option to the more expensive Rohl, how much will Still end up costing us when he gets sacked in a few weeks time? (or a few months time knowing the SR drongos). Could easily become a false economy that ends up not just costing us money but also any chance of promotion.

We do have terrible owners but I don't think cost was the reason here. Rohl was the ex Sheff Weds manager so hardly likely to have been on high wages. Rohl said at the time that he wanted to work in Germany for family reasons. That's probably why he never made the shortlist. But if SR had been given every manager option under the sun, I reckon they could still come up with a bad choice.
