One of those games where you expect 3 points, but didn’t create enough to deserve 3 points and fair play to Oxford as they did what they had to do very well.

I can’t honestly remember either keeper making a save in the game:

The starting line up lacked a bit of creativity with Hayden and Field in the middle a kind of pairing you would go with in an away game against one of the top teams not in a game you are expected to dominate and win.

I will say we did get into some strong crossing positions but the balls never got past the 1st defender.

A bit disappointed tonight in the fact we lacked that cutting edge …MOM …nobody stood out but will go with Norrington-Davies

Fair assessment from my vantage point. All I would add is that I was pleased the oft-stated belief that Cook is finished, is a load of rubbish. Loved his drilled cross, deserved better.

There Isn't a club In this division who I'll look at and say yea we should beat them.

Maybe I give other clubs too much respect but It's utter bollox to say 'yea we'll beat them'

You have to earn them Three points, earn them on the pitch.

Wrong starting eleven tonight In my view, If the Manager was thinking about Saturdays tough game at Bristol City then IMO he got It wrong, always, always put out your best eleven players on the day here and now.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Yeah real nothing game really and one of those I'll have no memory of having been at in the future.

Dembele ball to near post first half that Kone arguably should have got to and the gorgeous ball from Madsen two of the only moments of genuine threat posed. Thought we'd lost it from the stupid free kick Varane gave away at the death.

Clean sheets not to be sniffed at but we'll have to be a lot better at Bristol at the weekend - though as I am with my brother in the home end I will have to act against my emotions.

Couldn't agree more Ted. So infuriating and if you are trying to be clever wouldn't you play your best team in the winnable home game? We could play well on Sat and still lose.

Never understand it and if we are resting and rotating in the league the mind boggles what he's going to do on 3rd round day.

Play your best team, always. Please.

I think you're right Ted that this season there are really no terrible sides and no great sides. It is wide open as a division and as you say, you have to earn your three points. We are allergic to being in the top six for some reason.

Never knowingly right.

Credit to the Oxford defence. They didn't make a mistake and we just didn't have the quality or brains on the day to break through. Championship games are one offs and we are just as likely to go and win at Bristol on Saturday.

I'm not so sure. Don't think you can just keep playing the same team week in week out without players burning out. I thought JS made the subs early enough to have an impact and on another day we might have nicked a winner (could also have lost right at the end). We defended well. Dunne still not at his best but pleasing to see Cook last the full 90 and RND gets better with each game. Madsen clearly playing with much more confidence. Won a few headers and showed good physicality on the touchlines to win us a couple of throw ins. We're a much easier side to watch when he's on the pitch.

Awful game. Stephan messed up as we could have won that by starting with a strong line-up then taking players off. Pretty arrogant tbh, as was my 5-0 prediction. 🤣 Norrington-Davies had a good game.

Miraculously, the Championship-pipped side of 75/76 somehow got through 42 games + 6 Cup games with, what, a working squad of 15 or 16 players - and when the game was a lot more physically arduous, with one permitted sub, terrible pitches, heavier balls, fewer stoppages, and no girly drinks breaks. Funny that! I'm sure it's nothing to do with fan buy-in to downwardly managed expectations.

In 1976-77, we played 59 games (42 league, 2 FA Cup, 7 League Cup, and 8 UEFA cup), with a squad of 20 players, four of whom played between 1-3 games. And not a hint of 'rotation' in sight!

I rest my case (again)!

All fair points, maybe I expect too much from our players a Three game week must be tough I suppose (two of them away).

I'd be crap as a Manager.

I'm not claiming to know any more about managing a football team than you or anyone else. It would have been great to get a win tonight and if we'd had the same starting 11 as in recent games then you'd fancy our chances of getting one. That being said, Oxford defended well and were just about worth their point.
Hopefully the fresh(er) legs we'll have available against Bristol City on Saturday will get us three points. I think we'll do better against a team who want to attack rather than just sit in and play for the clean sheet.

Such a dreary game.

Pitiful in quality all round from both sides. To be fair, Gary Rowetts teams never are particularly silky and their dogged nature totally nullified any possible threats we offered. His teams are generally the anti christ of flowing football

i think there was a world cup game, i believe in the 80s when Germany and Austria played the third qualifying game and a nil nil draw meant the two near neighbours and friends both qualified from a game that wasnt contested at all in the ninety minutes. This game for me seemed like an attempt to carbon copy that footprint.
i know obviously it wasnt but it did seem to be such a dull stop start affair of nothingness.

Kone was very poor today so much so that Frey was the more involved of the two and created the best chance of the night with a fine shot.

We kept a clean sheet and were rarely troubled.

We are five games unbeaten.

And tonight for me, Cook showed that he still has nouse and quality which i was concerned he wouldnt reach his usual standards after his injuries last term.

Thats about it for tonight. instantly forgettable. A complete non event but also remember last few games, Oxford have drawn with Leicester and Coventry and beaten Bristol City away convincingly.

We go again on Saturday.

I attended my first game for almost a year courtesy of complimentary tickets via carlsberg and I still feel cheated.

Awful game two sides who didnt look like scoring in a month of Sundays.

Ohhhhhh bobby zamora

Good point at the end there. Oxford are no mugs. There's a tendency amongst some of our supporters to expect us to beat pretty much any team outside the top six. Any game we do win is often passed off as a win against a poor side we should have been beating easily any way. I think a bit more credit and recognition is due to just how hard teams have to work to pick up points in this division. There's no one just going to roll over and give you three points (apart from us at Coventry!)

Alongside the Field bashing I have never understood the Cook bashing, both played well tonight. Legs have gone where exactly? I felt the same about Colback.

A mistake to play Field and Hayden together tonight but Sam did what Sam does and made a couple of important blocks.

Cook is certainly not past it. Almost back to his best. His performance and RND were the main positives. In fact, the back 4 were solid. Madsen looks a completely different player and maintains his form.

Consistency certainly isn’t a thing in the Championship. With three quarters of the teams much of a muchness results are very random. No reason to think we would turn over Oxford or lose to Bristol City. Think the team is in quite a good place so there’s hope. Expectation is a schoolboy error.

I think it would have been better to change the team at Sheff Weds, as that was a game we were pretty likely to get a point from regardless. Then we could have attacked Oxford.

In their last 5 matches Oxford have drawn with Coventry, Leicester & QPR, beat Bristol City and lost 1-0 to Sheff Utd. Why did anyone expect this to be a formality?

I'm not sure JS will start with Field and Hayden at home anytime soon. I wonder if he'd have been better off with Vale and one of those two holders and bring Morgan in as well.

Which leads me to ask: Where's Kolli? I know the Unicorn is returning after his latest injury, but for my money, he's off the bench material at best. Kolli is surely a better starting option than Right Said Frey.

One of those games innit!
