| COOK 20:46 - Oct 4 with 6549 views | gazza1 | Starter or sub..........for the next game against Millwall on the 18th October. If he is a starter who is he a starter for??? Tough call for the manager and his team. | | | | |

Cookie was very good yesterday. He marshaled that back line and when distributing the ball at the back was solid. Hard not to let him keep his place at ‘wall. With Tonto, with three tough games in a week after the break I can see the back line swapping to ensure we have fit legs. I’d have Cookie retaining his place though first game out and there’s a good argument for him to play at Swansea. Both teams have scored a goal a game average, so clean sheets and we can take good points. Great to see Cookie back and playing strong.
| COOK on 10:04 - Oct 5 with 1669 views | YBlockW12 | Very positive from Cook yesterday and against Oxford, solid 8 out of 10 games. Diagonal balls to the right wing yesterday were a highlight. Would be first choice be will have to be managed as a little injury prone. At least we have good choices for centre half now | | | |
| COOK on 10:29 - Oct 5 with 1608 views | lassel | It’s pretty clear he’s the best CB at the club, anyone that suggests otherwise had lost their mind. Obviously needs to be managed though at 34 and with plantar fasciitis - I’m sure the club would have loved the have JCS available and Mbengue not to be a headcase to be able to use him more sparingly so far. | | | |
| COOK on 10:47 - Oct 5 with 1524 views | Paddyhoops | Starts for me . He was superb. Competition is great for the side and he’s been outstanding the last two . Think he’s been great for our club and just a great pro. | | | |
| COOK on 11:10 - Oct 5 with 1461 views | baz_qpr | I felt he was on the decline last year even before the injury and that looked to be continuing this season. But the last two games has been the Cook of 23/24 and he has been excellent. We've seen in the past that veteran centre backs can go on and be key players right into their late 30's usually the grisly stopper types, but we have also seen how those that really on their pace like Rio can fall off a cliff. If the game is moving again to be more direct and they can manage the good there is plenty of life in the old dog yet | | | |
| COOK on 12:45 - Oct 5 with 1348 views | cpgerber | I think Cook is arguably one of the top pro's at our club, if not the. Given his contract situation and where he is at in his career, many others in the same situation would probably have just played it out without too much stress. But he looks fully committed to the club and doing his best whenever he is called upon. Top bloke. We definitely need a leader like him. And that's without going into how important he was the previous two seasons to keep us up. | | | |

I'm not convinced large doses of Valium would have a calming influence on Mbengue.

| COOK on 12:53 - Oct 5 with 1320 views | Andybrat | Must start, another captain on the pitch and liable to score a goal. I think bar Esquardihna he has the hardest shot in the team, his timing of kicking a ball is so good with no effort. | | | |
| COOK on 12:54 - Oct 5 with 1306 views | mcqpr10 | He starts with mbengue next week for me. Is a leader and the best defender we have. Extremely harsh on Morrison but he will get plenty of minutes. Felt mbengue was more stable with cook next to him v Oxford. | | | |

No need to change that pairing. They were both solid, tackled determinedly without being rash, didn't lose concentration and were calming influences overall. The fact that they played together yesterday is of Mbengue's making and he has to now bide his time and hopefully learn from this, as five yellow cards in just 8 games, 2 of which could have led to a second red card against Charlton and a straight red against Stoke, is reckless beyond extreme and will cost us in the future if he continues in this vein. | COOK on 03:08 - Oct 6 with 924 views | smudgehoop | As Tonto said I think the question about him starting is who is answered by how the opposition attack is. set-up IMHO. For a slower, more physical opponent start with Cook.and more pacy one start with Mbengue. The other big issue is the injury Cook got towards the end of last season. Wasn't it a stress fracture in his foot through too much playing IIRC.? If so I fear a repeat injury might mean a lengthy spell in recovery. It may be best to use him sparingly for cover and hope he makes through season largely intact. [Post edited 6 Oct 3:11]

| COOK on 06:09 - Oct 8 with 605 views | gazza1 | My take on this is that the Manager will have his preferred CB pairing and he will not 'chop & change' CB's depending on who we are playing - we cannot worry about oppositions, just worry about our game. I say that because if, for example, we have just won 2-0 (Defence plays well, CB's work well, no goals conceded, etc, etc, all the positives) and the next opponent's has a 'pacey' CF so Cook, who lacks pace and played very well in the previous game is dropped down to sub......what would he be thinking?? - it would not go down very well, not just with Cook, but with many other members of that team. My gut feeling, providing they are 'fit & well' he will start with Morrison & Cook. I cannot see Cook being 'dropped' but if Mbengue is the Managers preferred CB over Morrison then we will see Mbengue start. A decision that will be discussed by the Management team in great detail with, I would expect, differing opinions, just like members of this MB. A very good position to be in, 3 decent CB's and a 'crock' who is always injured and arguably a better CB than all of them getting fitter for the time being!! [Post edited 8 Oct 8:30]
