Plans to demolish it and replace it with a tunnel which it should have been in the first place. I think the traffic may be rather rather heavy during construction. (ahem).

Although back to the OP - why? Is the flyover structurally unsound?
Seems like a whole load of faff otherwise.
Well, if and it's a very big if, it goes ahead the idea is to restore the original Hammersmith street patterns. For example, the broadway used to be two-way.
Get Hammersmith bridge fixed and open first. That will prevent millions of car journeys going the "long way round" over the Thames and polluting west London

Having taken a quick glance at the plan it seems to also include the Broadway Centre in the proposed redevelopment:
"Hammersmith Flyover, A4 and adjoining land (HRA3) - to include A4 land running from Colet Gardens in the east to the Cromwell avenue underpass in the west. Includes the Hammersmith Gyratory, the Broadway Centre, the area south of Black’s Road to Hammersmith Bridge Road, the British Transport Police Station and adjacent land to the east on Talgarth Road, the Ark and West London Magistrates Court. "

Er yeah, you'd think river crossings would be a priority...

gonna be some intresting finds if they do knock it down in the foundations thats for sure lol rumours were loats of lets say not suitable foundations under there from back in the day
It has underroad heating to keep it open in freezing conditions although it's never worked properly. Whether we'll ever get another freezing winter of course is subject to speculation.

Did look a lot better with Jayne Mansfield on it, to be fair,
That was the Hogarth “overpass” which looks as if it's built from odds and ends from the local scrapyard. My dad told me the army built it in 1956 but I think he was having me on.

Over here in the east we have Gallows Corner flyover that has been shut since June for replacement. Was supposed to be reopened by the end of September, currently TfL declining to name a revised date. Traffic is completely Horlicksed most of the day. And this is just for a like for like Meccano style ramp replacement. Shamefully mis-managed project, it's only a few drainage pipes and erection (phner) of a pre-built kit of parts.

As far as I can tell a lot of these projects are done (or rather not done) just to create horrendous traffic and p1ss people off.
It's almost like TfL/councils feed off the negative energy.

That sounds like common sense. Not that you’ll get any sane thinking from the brain dead morons involved in the infrastructure of this part of London.
Drove the 17 miles from Epsom to the Hogarth roundabout in 45 minutes last week, completed the final 3 miles to Park Royal in another 45 minutes. West London is a complete fck up.
As said above it feels like we’re being overseen by aliens determined to bring mankind to its knees.
