If he was up against Kelman, Celar, Lloyd, Dykes.and Armstrong, we would at.least appreciate his effort but he is a limited player, but ridiculous to play him with Kone and we didnt play to his strengths at all today. |  |

I haven’t seen us play lately as we only get to see the games out TV overlords deem worthy of showing but I was shocked at how slow he was. Runs like he’s knees are shot. I’m 60 and I can run faster than that. |  |

I'm not a fan of Right Said Frey. I think he's limited at best, and getting appreciably less so with age. His retention is baffling.
I've said it before on here, he reminds me of another bloke who huffed and puffed a lot, but wasn't much value for all his huffing and puffing: Sammy Koejoe.
Like Koejoe when he runs, RSF's arms pump faster then the pistons on Stephenson's Rocket, which is in sharp contrast to the propulsion of his legs. Reverse engineer RSF and you're on to something.
I get why you might opt for the 'big man' selection over Buzz against the likes of 'wall. However, its not as if what RSF can actually deliver for the minutes he can play will dwarf what a Buzz would deliver. In fact, if you needed to rest Buzz today, I'm sure the 'wall defence would have had more work on their hands facing Kolli. |  |

I like Frey because what he lacks in skill and pace he makes up for in putting himself about and attitude. I think he's probably a better option off the bench than a starter but he did some nice stuff in the opening half an hour before fading away. Still getting to full match fitness but for me a better chasing the game situation sub to bring on or someone to help see out a game. |  |

Yes he did.
On yesterday, I'm really disappointed in Stephan making the same mistake again. I don't mind mistakes at all, but you have to learn from them. Against Oxford we were so concerned about Rowett and physicality and Helik at set pieces that we completely killed our own attack by picking Frey, Hayden, Field etc to match them up for size at set pieces etc. We drew 0-0 with a crap side, and Helik should have scored from a set piece in the last minute anyway.
Exactly the same yesterday. Picked a team, IMO, because they're worried about Cooper, Crama etc at set pieces, hobbling our own attack in the process, and Millwall scored off a set piece anyway.
If we're at home, let them worry about us a bit. We're a far better side with Burrell in it, and if he can't play then pick a similar pacy, hard working profile - Kolli, Saito even - not two big lumps.

My theory, based on the timing of the two deals, is either he was entitled to a third year with an option on his side, or we were so concerned about our lack of striking options and Kelman wanting out early in the summer that we renewed him on the very handsome terms of his second year (when he signed he got buttons in year one in return for a lot in year two because we were so tight on FFP in the first season).
That's not ideal given his age and declining ability, so when we subsequently got Kone and Burrell I think they've gone back to him and said look, same money (or similar money) but spread it out over a longer period of time - more security for you, better FFP situation for us. | | | |

When I saw the selection I was really disappointed because I dont see how Kone and Frey together works but where I depart from other opinions in this thread is that for the 30-35 minutes, it did work, lovely touch to set up Smyth in the first minute , some actual link up and interplay between him and Kone the problem was not the front two IMHO it was the poor final ball and decision making and Varane having an absolute stinker.
Having said that 40 minutes onwards it was no longer working and was crying out either for Burrel and Kone for pace and aggression or Kolli and Kone for guile. I said at half time would be amazed if we scored a goal with our head against this lot so dominant were their centre backs in the air |  | | |

There is another theory you've overlooked. He's got incriminating photos of the hierarchy.
Let's hope Jools has finally learned that there's absolutely no point in starting Frey. At best, you bring him on when you want to confuse the fcuk out of the oppo and double-bluff them into thinking 'we are not serious' and you hope to God that all that effort he puts into running eventually sees him get there sometime, eventually, to do something. | |
