Something has got to be done about player salaries. They, IMO, are the biggest thing killing the game. Stadiums falling apart, regular staff getting laid off, contractors not paid, etc etc just so the club can go and sign some cnt on stupid money who probably then phones it in the moment the ink is dry.

Yes, there are dodgy owners but there are good owners too who just can't cope under the pressure of player (agent) wage demands.

As much as i love football, no one 'deserves' £10,000 a week (ave. Championship salary) for kicking a football around.

Don't give me this "it's a short career' bollox either. Injuries are part and parcel of any sport. My missus (ex Int'l gymnast) retired at just 17 after she had a double-fracture in her arm. 12+ years down the drain.

Also, fascinating how a players supposed value increases every time a new TV deal is signed.

I get that they are the ones on the pitch doing the work and if there is that much money floating around football then who else but them deserves it, but it should not be at the expense of any clubs future.

I'm sure the owners are getting by with offsetting the losses against tax elsewhere and not to mention the money laundering that goes on in the game.

This is the crux of the issue - players wages. Players wages feed the need for clubs to have wealthy owners, and the type of wealthy person it attracts are usually nutters.

Other ownership models are available, but the current English football league structure makes it very challenging for those types of clubs to really kick on. Instead, the system rewards clubs that can 'game the system' through clever data analytics and inventive accounting.

Agreed, the only winners since the Prem started have been the players and their agents.
No matter what the TV deal is no club will win just the players and agents - see us as a prime example!

Lads, player wages are mental, but that’s a symptom of why we are where we are not a cause.

If players played for minimum wage do you think these owners would be putting the money in cancer research and dog sanctuaries? Most definitely not.

We are here because ego, hubris, capitalism, and most of all poor regulation,

I agree with most of this. Just feel sorry for the fans and the lower paid staff around the club. It's always the fans and the lower paid staff that pay the price.

Never knowingly right.

New TV deal = player values & salaries increases = back to square one

Club builds new stadium = increased match day & non match day revenue = player salaries increases = back to square one

Clubs signs new lucrative sponsorship deal = player salaries increases = back to square one

Clubs sign new lucrative kit deal = player salaries increases = back to square one

And so on.

Clubs basically stand still while salaries go through the (leaking) roof and if any of those maxed out/peaked commercial opportunities lessen, then they are in a deficit straight away.

Nobody buys a football club these days because they love the club. It's a gamble. They are betting that the value goes up over time and they can make money. The thing that has the biggest influence on that is the players so that's where the investment is.

Until that changes this problem is only going to get worse

I suppose they could invest the money saved on ludicrous player salaries to improve the ground for the supporters. I for one would appreciate that far more than the likes of the Tyler fella creaming it off.

If still in admin, they will have to sell players in Jan. Also, any buyer might as well sell in Jan and prepare for L1, as this will now happen.

Means we only need two clubs worse than us now.

zzzzzzzzzz

Well, I agree, but we’ve not been diddled out of legroom because of Tyler Roberts.

Or QPR invest it in a new PA system.

Nourry said it would cost £1 million to upgrade, so was too expensive to fix.

But consider the sounds system at Swansea was more like Harrods and ours was more like off the back of a lorry.

In summary, I just can't help but feel for their long-time, genuine fans, that will suffer the consequences of this appalling mismanagement.

The fact that one man can have such a detrimental effect on thousands of people, a city, is just plain wrong. Don't expect it to change anytime soon though!

Yeah but we've got safe standing now. I'd take my rail seat all day long if it was a toss up between that and better sounds.

Nice touch by the club.

I think that's the one positive - it will be years of pain but then they can come back - if he stayed nothing good was coming from it.

Not sure what happens with the ground though as I think he owns it -and he seems spiteful, so that could get messy.

I guess the other thing that is often forgotten is all the small businesses owed money that now won't get paid (or hardly) that may go bust or have serious financial problems, and the poor staff of course.

It is certainly suppliers that are the hardest hit, but receiving 10p in the pound (or whatever the administrator pays) is more than they would have received under Chansiri's ownership.

This - so wrong on every level - but still the very first thing I think of in terms of this sorry saga. Sympathy/empathy can wait a while.

Shit for the supporters and club but it’s a relegation in the making now, so one less spot for others to worry about. Expecting a mass exodus in January, maybe earlier if contracts are broken and no salaries paid (again) for the next few months.

Leicester will have some form of significant points deduction too at some stage, we assume. Plus an embargo in Jan ?

That could only leave one relegation spot open….that will be a massive dogfight come the spring.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

players always get their money, even if club goes to the wall, they get paid in full.
other creditors, staff etc will have to settle for far less.
owls mess has been coming for years now .
we were lucky no points off when we were in admin for 2 years??
