Sack Will Still Poll 09:26 - Oct 27 with 1659 viewsSaintNick

The polls always puzzle me, nearly 1,000 people have viewed the Sack Will Still put up yesterday but only 53 people actually bothered to vote.

It currently stands at 70% of those want Still sacked

I noticed yesterday that to vote you have to be logged in. So I wonder if a lot of the people viewing are not members?

A lot of fans are unsure about this because they don't trust Sport Republic to appoint a better manager. The next one will be the 8th under Sport Republic and there haven't been signs of them improving.

It's also difficult for ANY manager to win games without a proper goalkeeper or centre forward. I don't class McCarthy and Archer as anywhere near adequate at this level, as they wouldn't get into the starting lineup of any other team in the Championship.

Poll: Les Reed in or out?

Yes they would.
But anyway my frustration is that I still think we have a team that should be in the top 3. We have more quality than pretty much anyone else.
The issue is Still cant get a performance out of them.
We were dogshit last year but we are massively underacheiving this season.

No, they wouldn't. Which Championship goalkeeper and centre forward do you think McCarthy and Archer are better than?

The stats show that our goalkeepers have THE WORST save percentage in the entire Championship this season. 55.6%. Even Pompey's have 72.3%:

xG stats also indicate that our strikers miss the highest percentage of chances in the league.

With even an average Championship goalkeeper and centre forward, we'd currently be in the top 6. The Blackburn game was the latest in a long line of games we've lost points in because we have the worst goalkeeper and centre forward in the league.

Only players who are currently unemployed, I believe, and for them to not be wanted by anyone, even League 2 clubs, after so many months, means they have serious issues, like long-term injuries or end of career permanent loss of form.

It was frustrating that Still left Oyekunle unused, on the bench, at Blackburn. We might have found out that he is currently the best available centre forward we have in the squad. My biggest criticism of Still is his poor use of substitutes i.e. taking off our best players, when they are the main reason we are controlling the game, and replacing them with the wrong subs.

I just don't know. We cant keep sacking managers and expecting improvement. However, he should never have been appointed, the players don't seem enamoured by him and I worry who we would appoint. Another experiment as we show how clever we are?

I am not convinced the players we have are as good as we are told they are either.

Didn’t spot a poll but as much as I didn’t think WS was the right appointment in the first place I have absolutely no confidence in the clowns in charge to change tact and go for anything other than another left field replacement. In which case we might as well stick with what we’ve ended up with (until SR are no longer making the decisions)

Agree with this.
How on earth can any club have 5 managers in a year.

What that says very clearly is that our current method of identifying managers doesn't work. I assume its stats driven because everything is these days.
So if we use the same method again why will be get a different result.
I can only hope that if u go through enough managers we'll eventually get lucky.

As for the earlier post I think most championship teams would take Archer. We paid nearly 15 million for him. How many other teams spent that.
We know McCarthy is a good enough championship keeper. What we have is a team of good players, playing terribly.
Exactly why, I don't know. But a really good manager doesn't have this team in 20th place.

Nail on the head !.
We are not good enough as a club.
The Owners should not be involved in Football club ownership, there are parts of winning football matches that can't be managed by Businessmen.
The list of very poor Coaches / managers we've had have mainly been way out of their depth.
And as you quite rightly say the current squad of players just ain't good enough,
( with a couple of exceptions) because they being paid Premiership salaries they think that they are too good for the Championship.
The whole club needs a reset, it's no good just making the coaches scapegoats to cover up the real problem.

So 70 per cent on here want Still gone immediately. A few saying they don't trust SR to get the next appointment right, so arn't sure, but he's lost the fansbase now. He has to go.

Nick - Perhaps it is down to multiple viewings. Maybe the 50 or so people have each looked at the poll 20 times, to see how their original votes are in the overall standings ?

Or people take a look and think what is the point in voting ? It is hardly going to influence the owners in any way.

After Bristol City it was bad enough, but then the result at Blackburn made up a lot of people's minds, so are you surprised at the 70% ?

Whatever my opinion of Still I don't think the timing is quite right. This is such a competitive league that two consecutive wins (or two defeats) can change things a lot. SR won't want to create more instability but they've also shown that they're not afraid to make big calls. Will Still will be given until the next international break but if things haven't improved by then I would be surprised if the Board failed to act.

Spot on.
The fans have been duped by SR. It was a coup d'etat in the first place. They're a business concern not a football one ( many of us said this at the beginning).
Their three club model, reckless waste of academy talent, transfer funds and signings and poor managerial signings, are proof enough.
I bet they're paying themselves off nicely ( I'd like to know how much. Presumably several million a year each).
Southampton FC is first and foremost a community football club and not an extractor of wealth of punters, for it's owners. SR must know this, couldn't care and simply ignore it. They're not interested in finding and applying the correct balance as seen with Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Sunderland etc.

Much as I agree with your sentiments, SFC is no longer a community sports club. It is a slave trading company. Anybody remember the old banger sales place in Bevois Valley where they would flog anything that could move?

Will Still will be given a few more games yet. If you remember Russell Martin was on a very bad run or results yet the owners failed to act for a while and I can’t see them changing their style with Will Still. When you compare Stills situation to Martin it isn’t as bad. With RM we were getting stuffed every week whereas with Still at least we’ve won a couple and drawn a few. I reckon they’ll give him another 3/4 games at least.

Except RM had achieved promotion (so deserved more time as he had proven he could win games) and RM was in a higher league with players who were nowhere near good enough for the Premier League.

I am not sure I can say that Fellows, Azaz, Stephens, Harwood-Bellis, Woods, Edwards, Flynn Downes, Charles, Sciensa, Armstrong are nowhere near good enough for the Championship. We have spent nearly 60 million on players, the highest in the league. So in this case, it's crazy that we can't beat sides like Blackburn who haven't won at home for 6 months and have very poor players amd haven't spent a penny on their team. You have to look at the manager here and ask why he isn't getting the best out of proven championship players. He's learning,.learning, learning but that's not what we need. By the time he has learnt, we will be in league one.
