And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles
Brian Moore
I mostly find comedy a matter of taste, and just don't really pay attention to something if it doesn't make me laugh.
BUT
A few years ago I was at an industry awards evening that is hosted by a comedian. The year before it had been Sean Lock who had torn the house down. We got Jimmy Carr. Not really my bag, but pretty famous like.
They'll do a set as an interval. I'm not a fan, My. God. It was atrocious, and absolutely tanked. Boring, hackneyed material, delivered like a royal society lecture. I actually had to go to the very over priced bar just to lose the second hand embarrassment. Have to change the channel any time I see him now.
I don't follow closely but I do absolutely love Vittorio Angelone and Mike Rice. Their Guide to Parenting podcast regularly leaves me in tears.
Stewart Lee has been consistently brilliant for years. Few appearances on TV so his stage act is always surprising and extremely inventive. Special mention to Paul Chowdhry - delivered a show at the Apollo 'Whats Happening White People' which was a divisive comedy tour de force
Yes, comedy is definitely subjective. I detest Stuart Lee. He’s the most smug comedian I’ve ever seen. Being ‘clever’ is no substitute for actually making people laugh. He’s as funny as a turd in a swimming pool. Special mention also goes to Nish Kumar; a prime example of sociopathic levels of self confidence married to no discernible talent whatsoever. Ditto Joe Lycett, dire.
Best comedian of the last 20 years was early Micky Flanagan.

Also they all seem to be under the same agency and basically all do the rounds of the same fkin endless panel shows.
Anyway as ever it's clearly not what you know but who you know (does funny handshake, etc.)

You've collected the set there - lefties, gays and asians.
Although Micky Flanagan is probably a lot more left wing than you think.
I think the worst comedian,in my opinion is Rosie Jones.I don’t think she’s funny at all,and if you need to wait 5 minutes for the punchline a joke loses it’s impact.Fair play to her for having the minerals to get up there though. I read that she has written some good stuff for other comedians and shows,so maybe she should stick to that avenue.
Best one though and the most intelligent by a country mile is...
Bob Monkhouse
Extremely clever man.
He did a gig for a big bank Xmas party about 30 years ago that my Dad went to. Dad wasn't looking forward to it as Bob had fallen out of fashion due to the rise of alternative comedians like Ben Elton etc.
Bob smashed it out the park and had the audience in the palm of his hands. Dad said he had watched a master at work.

As mentioned above she was great live, probably because she got to dictate the pace.
Can anybody explain Elis & John to me? I listen to Radio 5 so stumble across their show and absolutely nothing they say even raises a smirk even though they are smugly chortling along to what each other says in a "jokey" voice.
I'm a fan of these two. Light entertainment and they clearly have good chemistry. Understand why you might not enjoy it if you just stumbled across it though. One of those that improves the more you listen. There are so many podcasts these days so I'm sure all tastes are catered too somewhere. I'm also a fan of the Wolf and Owl podcast and Three Bean Salad. Takes my mind off things on the daily commute.

Defo give her stand up a chance I’d say.
I just read your post on the previous page about her.I admit that I’ve only seen her on tv shows,so I can’t comment on her live shows, but she doesn’t float my boat from what I’ve seen Baz.

He is . He called a king Chaz a jug eared c***. In one of his sketches . He’s probably the funniest comedian apart from Sean Locke in the last 20 years.. I find Stewart Lee very funny so I like all sorts. Worst comedian I ever seen was Lou Sanders . She did a show at Radlett with three other comedians including Marcus Bridgestock (Excellent) . Lazy , thrown together set which ended up being excruciatingly bad. Felt sorry for her in the end.
Saw Russell Howard at MEN Arena. Coarse and unfunny. I'm not averse to using bad language from time to time but adding the f-word doesn't make a story any funnier.
"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one's lifetime." (Mark Twain)

Alan Carr's voice and persona is beyond irritating. A terminally unfunny creature.
I've just Googled to see that there have been no less than 5 seasons over 14 years of Mrs Brown's Boys, how the hell this has happened is beyond me, utterly excruciating and not remotely funny.
Anyone ever tried to suffer more than 5 minutes of Saturday Night Live? That too is shocking and I believe is largely responsible for the horrific torture that was Wayne's World.

I saw Stewart Lee a week ago, and after about an hour, my stomach was hurting from laughing. Proper hurting. A strong 9/10 and well worth the £40 or whatever it was. A very clever bloke, but also very, very funny. His stage persona is obviously part of the act. Each to their own, though.
