So last night after coming home from a gruelling hours 6 a side game I come home to find Mrs P and daughter watching the Miranda box set !!!??? WTF how many times can you find a fat woman with a stupid haircut falling over funny anyway this got me thinking of the worst comedian and how bad comedy is now
so top 3 worst comics at the moment
Miranda Hart Sarah F ucking Milligan David Williams - yes we know your camp it aint funny so feck off
And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles
Brian Moore
Saw Russell Howard at MEN Arena. Coarse and unfunny. I'm not averse to using bad language from time to time but adding the f-word doesn't make a story any funnier.
You've collected the set there - lefties, gays and asians.
Although Micky Flanagan is probably a lot more left wing than you think.
I don’t care what your politics are, what you do in the bedroom or where your ancestors hail from, the only metric is an ability to make me laugh. Why do some assume what my politics are over my dislike of certain comedians and that I’d disagree with Flanagan over his comments on King Charles? I don’t.
As for bicycle seat sniffing, I have no idea what you’re talking about.
Yes, comedy is definitely subjective. I detest Stuart Lee. He’s the most smug comedian I’ve ever seen. Being ‘clever’ is no substitute for actually making people laugh. He’s as funny as a turd in a swimming pool. Special mention also goes to Nish Kumar; a prime example of sociopathic levels of self confidence married to no discernible talent whatsoever. Ditto Joe Lycett, dire.
Best comedian of the last 20 years was early Micky Flanagan.
Mickey Flanagan is EASILY the best comedian of the last 20 years. Rewatched a load of his videos during lockdown and we were howling with laughter at times. Love Omid Dijalli too. Worst? Don't really care tbh.
Interesting thread. But people telling others who is bad and who is good is a bit of a waste of time . People tastes are different for all sorts of things and thank god .
Personally I like comedians who make me think . Not as rule. But George Carlin and Bill Hicks were always like the kings . Loved earlier days Eddie Izzard and Micky Flanagan too, as well as true legends like Bob Monkkhouse and Billy Connolly.
Hard to say who I don’t like because if I don’t like them after a short while then I just don’t pay any attention . Don’t know his name but that scouse guy who has got big recently just slagging off his audience makes me cringe a bit . But as I say , I don’t pay enough attention to what I don’t like.
You can't seriously be comparing Billy Connolly to Russell Howard!
Howard is in fact the answer to the OP.
I wasn’t,but I was replying to a post that said swearing didn’t always improve a comedian.I’ve seen the big yin several times and he was brilliant every time.
Who was the woman who lost her shit when that guy told her Sticks and stones but there will always be something to offend a feminist? She's apparently a comedian?
Larry David is probably the best.

Kate Smurthwaite, nobody attended one of her Edinburgh shows and she said it was because her audience went to Oasis instead.
I cannot stand stand up. I get instantly embarrassed for all concerned, just squirm in my seat in case I get picked on, dread a joke falling flat, hate the idea that I have to laugh. Paying somebody to make you laugh seems like a weird perversion to me, isn't that what your mates and you Mrs are for? I love good sitcoms, have a sense of humour but find the whole stand up schtick deeply toe curling. But Sean Locke was funny.

The TikTok/Insta reel trend of every comedian doing endless crowd work has gotta stop

I've seen a lot of comedians complaining about the rise of crowd work – they have to do it because it what gets attention on socials. They feel it rewards the quick insult rather than the well-worked joke.

I think the latest James Acaster show Hecklers Welcome plays on that a bit. His routines are well put together and don't have a lot of crowd work so hecklers would ruin the rhythm and spoil the routine, so he came up with a show that addresses that. Worth a watch.
I think all comedians have died on stage or tried material that wasn't funny but I'd find it hard to say worst as it's likely someone I've forgotten existed or never seen.

Al Murray these days is about twenty minutes of material and an hour and a half of crowd work... oooh there's a bloke who works in IT, someone in HR, a student, a nurse, etc, etc...
Long time before he became famous we went to see Jasper Carrott in a small village hall, my Wifes friend was literally In tears laughing, I have to say he was bloody brilliant. We had a big family outing to see Michael Barrymore, 5 minutes into the act I thought Hmmm I'd seen all this crap on the television, I wanna go home. I watch a lot of this Guy from across the pond, (not work friendly).
My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.
I was going to mention her. I have to switch over anything she's on. As funny as a fire in a children's home.
I have said before on other forums and Twitter that Rosie Jones isn't very good. Some people say I am having a go at her disability etc. It's not that at all. In an industry where delivery and timing is a must, sadly with her it just isn't there. When she is on panel shows and people are doing their bit, when she chimes in, the timing is lost and you can see people just sitting there smiling, waiting for her to finish.
Oh actually just remembered the actual worst comedy show I've ever seen.
Dylan Moran WIP shows at the Leicester Square theatre. He was absolutely annihilated, slurring his words reading incoherently from a big note book. About halfway through it went from dog shit to genuinely uncomfortable to watch.
I think he went sober shortly afterwards, but it hasn't lasted and I hear his recent shows have been similar car crashes
The blindingly obvious link between those two jokes is obviously "batter"
I think you can tell a lot about a stand-up by how they deal with heckles. Bomb in the Tabard in Chiswick and it's tepid applause. Bomb in a working men's club in Toxteth and you're dodging bottles.
I thought Jimmy Carr was shìt until I saw him live. He's good. Frankie Boyle, great live although tones it down more now than in the early days. Saw Rich Hall and Reginald D Hunter both at the Apollo.
Can't stand Nish Kumar. Nothing to do with his politics, he's just a shìt comedian taking up the place of someone with talent.
