I think he could be looking at a ten year HMPPS contract with a one year trigger extension should they deem his behaviour not to be worthy of the release clause. Apparently HMP Chelmsford get a 20% 'prison on fee' if he offends again somewhere else.

JET on 18:18 - Jun 5 with 2919 views | Northernr | Some amazing details. He was "traced" by police because after they'd arrested the girls he got to do it he sent them text messages telling them to delete all his text messages. Strong tactic. The girls themselves were never charged because they believed they were smuggling gold!!? Famously similar weight to cannabis when you're loading two suitcases of it onto a baggage belt. (One suspects they've fitted him up in return for a favour).

I read a different article a few weeks back where they said the charges were dropped against the women after managing to get into his devices which ‘proved’ they’d been told they’d be bringing back ‘his gold’ from Thailand.

It's a reasonable line of defence that would almost certainly have seen him acquitted if he was playing for Luton.

I don’t know a lot about it but I reckon bringing 8 identical suitcases of it through Stansted Airport is deep moron territory.

If he wasn't a complete moron he could have made enough money ten times over playing football to have rendered any criminal exploits completely uninteresting.

To be (a bit) fair to him, it was 'only' cannabis, which is hardly a leading killer of British youth. Alcohol is a far more destructive, socially acceptable, drug, so will you also be calling for the imprisonment of brewery owners and off-licence managers etc?

Yes, cannabis is not a killer but there is the 'gateway drug' argument which does have a degree of credibility. As for your comments about booze, you're just being pugnacious for the sake of it. You will know that the many millions who partake of it vastly outweigh those who die from it.
JET on 21:14 - Jun 7 with 1456 views | dmm |
I said you were being pugnacious for the sake of being pugnacious, not about alcohol related deaths. Around half the population of the UK drinks alcohol. That's almost 35 million people which, as I said, vastly outweighs alcohol related deaths.

So because not everyone dies of drink makes it OK? With high-level philosophical logic like that, you must holiday in Delphi!

In fairness it was only £600,000 of cannabis he tried to import. #BrokenBritain

And don't get me wrong, I have liberal views on legalising drugs (though it's obviously a complex subject). However, if you are going to criminalise something and go through the time and expense of a trial, 10 months doesn't seem the greatest of deterrents, which must be part of the reason you criminalise it.

Oh yes, I know. I just find it bizarre. If I were thinking of making a wad of money from importing drugs, 10 months wouldn't deter me very much. I might not bring them through customs in a suitcase though...
