Charlie Kelman’s Leyton Orient 12:00 - Feb 8 with 60363 views | DannyPaddox | Up against Man City in the FFS that was offside FA Cup. I prepare to stand corrected but I think Charlie is still our player but as I take as much interest in modern football players contracts and transfers as I do in mobile phone contracts I could be wrong. Either way seems like a good lad and having a decent season with a club I like so up the O’s! Up against a central defender today in Ruben Dias who’s worth approx £75 mil … would love to see Charlie meg him. [Post edited 8 Feb 12:07]

Charlie Kelman’s Leyton Orient on 15:34 - Mar 31 by gazza1 | Good, I hope he does get signed/transferred to another Championship Club, more money for QPR and one off the books who struggles in the Championship. |
As somebody else pointed out, in his 20 odd appearances for QPR the sum total of minutes equates to about four full games. No one can say with 100% certainty that he "struggles in the Championship" as he's hardly played.

"No one can say with 100% certainty that he "struggles in the Championship" as he's hardly played." On that logic we might as well bring Niko Hamalainen back. He averaged less than four league games a season in his eight years here! We signed Kelman in 2020. Five different managers looked at him and decided he wasn't the answer to our chronic goalscoring problem. I think he has done enough this season to deserve another chance to show he can do it in the Championship (assuming we're still in the Championship next season.) But we really need him to hit the ground running.

Charlie Kelman’s Leyton Orient on 12:42 - Apr 1 with 1964 views | gazza1 | It isn't just about scoring goals........ pace, showing up for the ball, making good runs, using the ball intelligently, passing the ball, work rate, strength, bravery, defending, impact he has on games, etc, etc, etc...........they are all important skills needed to play football at the level that we are talking about.

"He's only 23 though mate" Clive Allen and Adel Taarabt were both younger than that when they were tearing up the second tier for us. OK, they were exceptional talents and no one expects Kelman to reach their level. But the game really has gone soft if we're giving players a free pass up until the age of 23. Most players peak before they're 30. Gary Lineker and Michael Owen were both retired at 32. I'm being slightly tongue in cheek. . I think the real problem is the way we have been developing our younger players in recent years. I see a lot of reports about Kelman saying he has bulked up this season and looks stronger. Was that our decision or did Orient do that? And if it was us then why didn't we do it sooner? Kelman deserves a lot of credit for going out on loan and working hard to make that chance work for him. I hope he gets the chance to show what he can do for us and I hope he takes it.

Not The Top 20 certainly didn't pull any punches: “It’s eight defeats in their last 11 or five in their last six,” said Not The Top 20’s Ali Maxwell in this week's podcast. “It’s very, very ugly. The starting XI looks an absolute mess. I just think for whatever reason for the last few years, however they try to shape their squad, they just end up with so little depth. I don’t really back the depth that QPR have when Steve Cook is out, Ilias Chair is out, Michael Frey is out. All of a sudden, the team looks like the worst starting XI in the league and it’s reflected in a poor performance.” https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-qpr-cham

Spot on. The two big misses are Cook and Field. Without them we're absolutely spineless. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

This is 100% where we are. Chair, Field and Cook out (plus JCS) means the waifs and strays need to step and they just aren't good enough. We knew that anyway, Paal, Smyth, Colback, Fox are players that should be coming off the bench not who you are resting your hopes of a result on!

Absolutely, always said we would miss Cook hugely if he wasn't there. And we do desperately, notwithstanding his worse form with his injury. And Field is a vital cog, total unsung hero. Never understand it when his value is questioned.

Your first sentence may well be right. Sure, he made no impact for us. But the facts have changed since he last played in a Championship game. We're in no position to spurn a player who is one of the top scorers in League 1 and already ours.

If over the next week we have to put up with 2 more Stokes and Anderson and Madsen are picked we could well be saying he will be a good front man for League 1
Charlie Kelman’s Leyton Orient on 18:13 - Apr 1 with 1163 views | Superhoops2808 | I am at a loss when it comes to people saying we missing Steve Cook? Much of our points this season came when he was out injured - And we have only won twice since he came back into the side. Field I agree, but I am sorry the loss of Cook is not the reason behind our recent lack of form.

Not sure that stacks up - we've won 11 times this year, Steve Cook started 7 of those.

Would say you could give that as an assist to Kelman. Good strong battle and shot by Charlie, rebound from goalies save is tapped in. Playing though at the local park with ground and attendance to match... [Post edited 1 Apr 19:58]

Yep - My bad But I still feel that since he came back from injury he has not looked as good as he was even if he has scored a few goals. Other than Field there has to be another reason Anyway, back to Kelman... For me he has to be starting next season with us for at least the first 10 game and given a fair shout.

Cook has, himself, not been playing at the same level for after his injury. However, the point both I and Clive have tried to make is that Cook and Field add value outside their personal performance. They instill the standards in this team in terms of positional discipline, work rate, physicality. They aren’t perfect. They have the odd bad game. Field’s passing is mediocre and Cook’s legs are going. But watch how they interact with their teammates during games. They are constantly talking to teammates and pointing where people need to be. They organise everyone around them because they read the game, especially when we don’t have the ball, so much better than everyone else in the squad. You spend half the game without the ball so these leaders, organisers and standard setters are critical. Without them, everyone just coasts.

Ooh, I'm not sure about that. Apparently Field points at other people because he can't be bothered to do it himself and the only talking Cook does is to bawl people out for his own mistakes.
