Jimmy had a poor patch form wise but absolutely never in terms of character
As others have said if you lose him you're not only losing a fine player but also a wonderful man. You cannot measure that in terms of true value but I think it's immense.
Sadly I think he's off but I think he's one of those who will always be a Ranger, you can see it in him. If he goes or stays he deserves whatever pay he gets and there's not many I say that about.
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Sadly I think he’ll be off but with all our blessings.
Him, Chair, Cook and Field can hold their heads up and say they kept QPR as a Championship club in the most trying of times.
Dunne has been immense the last two seasons, we should I and I hope we are trying to keep him but I reckon any Championship club will be eyeing him up. Wins almost every header he goes for in any box - that is something every team wants

Good pros, still give it their all, every single game, no matter what.
The season we capitulated but were only saved as we beat Burnley away two matches from the end who were top of the division that year, and Dickie had the match of all matches.
That game was the difference for us, between staying up or being relegated !!
Yes Dunne and Dickie, both were out of form and lacked confidence, but Dickie maybe knew he was off and yet put in a massive performance that day and now look where his current club is.
I think likewise Dunne's performances will not have gone unnoticed but I have a hope he could stay.
However anyone that could get a big pay rise elsewhere, fair enough and he would go with our blessings naturally...

If Dunne leaves to go to play for a Premier League team I'm not really sure there's much we can say other than thank you and fair play

I am unsure if he will go but I do not think that it is a 'done deal' with another club or in his head or with QPR.......my view and probably biased, stay here, enjoy your football, be realistic, get a few more quid and a long contract. I want him here, I think he has been most important to the Team probably better than I thought prior to the season started. Although he is a 'proper' decent lad from what I have seen of him.
Moving on the Jimmy & the Premiership......I do not believe that he has the necessary talent/skills/ability/pace to play week in & week out in the Premier. The best he would do would be a 'back-up' but he would not think that in himself.

I hope he stays. I like him. I suspect he's not the longer it goes on with no announcement.
That said, on a pure ability level, whilst he's been with us we've never ultimately pulled any trees up at the end of the season, so is he as good as we make him out to be?
That said, if he left and you didn't replace him with someone at least as good or better, then its a bad move regardless.

Pace you may have a point but everything else.... no. He's got it - case in point that flick down the line last Saturday to Dembele.
I'm always banging on about pace. It's something that is key in a squad but, and a big but, in many positions reading of the game can make up for any lack of pace and/or balance with pacier players around you. There's plenty of defenders in the Prem etc who are not pace machines but read the game well enough to make up for it.
Jimmy has certainly got talent, skill and ability to play at any level IMHO. Add to that the aforementioned character and I think you've a player there that would cost, what, £3mill to replace at this level???? Tough call for the club.
If we started next season with a back four of Dunne - Morrison - Edwards - Decent Left Back then I am sure many here would be happy, I'd be over the moon.

Really, his skills are very limited indeed..........the amount of times he mis-controls a ball would be penalised in the Premier. Not only that his control has given away needless corners during games. And much more. His skills are just good enough for us. His main attributes are his heading of the ball, tackling, attitude & application during matches.
If he was Premier quality he would have been 'nabbed' by now and left us when Sheffield were 'eyeing' him.

Opinions eh.
I always thought his touch and passing were decent, and so did Mark Warburton who if memory serves said he was good at looking after the ball and was why he was signed.
I think when you are 6'4 and built like a wardrobe you can get typecast, but he has contributed quite few goals through his touch and ability with the ball.
That's not to say he is Premiership quality though, although if I was around the bottom of it i'd want him in the team.

really hope that he has simply delayed signing until we were safe in the championship, but suspect there will be a big financial offer from a parachute club looking to consolidate their squad after getting rid of some big prem wages.
from our perspective we could/should break the bank to keep him (in terms of our bank, not the stupid money elsewhere) as we know what he can do and may have to fork out ££££ for a replacement who will also want decent money.
invest the fee in keeping him...... it never makes sense to me when clubs let players go on a free who might have stayed for the right money; then spend a fortune buying in an unknown who still wants a big salary. might pish off other squad members, but that is just the way it goes.

He's better than average for our squad which is probably the metric that most counts.
If as most of us suspect Steve Cook is going to be offered a 1 year deal on big wages, I'd rather spend that money on Jimmy. I know wages apparently are not the thing with Jimmy, its the length of contract, but I do not trust the board to replace him with anyone nearly as effective in this team.
I am not dumb enough to come out with a "pay him whatever he wants", but he has done enough this season to prove himself a really valuable member of the squad and I am fairly sure that he'd be a shoo-in for PotS if he had committed himself to the club long term. Yes, he is limited (but who isn't), but I doubt that he would let us down, so offer him a bit more than most, but don't break the budget...
I think he will go though as his head will be turned by bigger offers...
Often wonder how much he'll be considering what position he plays in. Does he want to be a centre back or right back?
Do Marti and / or Nourry and / or Belk and / or whoever is deciding these things all see him as a short term right back last season who had to become a season-long one again this year only when Santos & Ashby bombed...but they want another go in the summer at getting 'their kind' of rb, and they only see Jimmy as a back up cb...hence no offer (or a 'stay on the same' one)?
Only guesswork on my part, but I'm sure it's a consideration for JD, alongside wages, location, etc etc

It's rare to get someone as versatile and valuable as Dunne has been for us these last 18 months. Brilliant defender and a huge threat up front as well now. If we're keeping Cook and even Colback who are already well into there 30's, then I fail to see the caution in giving Dunne a 4 year contract that would keep him at the club until he's only 31!!! Both Cook (I think) and Colback were older than this when we signed them.
Also, it means we can demand a decent fee if anyone comes after him in the next couple of years or so. It's no brainer for me.

Opinions are......will he go, will he stay??
Whether he is a good ball player, control & distribution should not be an opinion, it is what I have seen many times and what posters should see week in & week out. Just like 'pace'.

Yes agreed .
But ‘good ball player , control distribution & pace’ don’t make up all the necessities of any footballer.
These are not his strong points that’s agreed.
But his desire , strength, aerial attributes, reading of the game ,fitness, defensive nous, have improved as well his ability to beat a player with a bit of skill, score a goal, overlap and get forward . By your set of rules Alan McDonald was useless. Macca wasn’t a great footballer but he had so many other strings to his bow .
The contract is being held up by the length being agreed . That’s common knowledge. But if the can sort that then I’d take Jimmy for 3 seasons no problem.
If we don’t , then you’ll quickly see how much we miss him in our own penalty box at set pieces .

I feel he will go, which is a big shame. He has his strengths and faults, but is stronger than most in our squad overall - so would be good to keep him. But if a new contract to stay comes at a high cost I can understand the dallying. JD offers more than just his position, he’s gives us strength at corners, gives us goals and brings team spirit to the dressing room with his banter. Feels like we’ll find out soon enough and move on, just as we always do.
