If Southend are to go up, they will need to win 3 times away (including Wembley). same for Halifax. we will need to win 2 times away, and same for Lun (atics). York and FG will only need to win once away for promo... So who is the smart money on??

Home advantage should count James. The Play Offs involve the best teams in the league who on their day are all capable of beating each other. York are beatable, they've proved that during the season, clout and budgets not withstanding.
There's been 7 football league play off games since last Thursday and only Sheffield United last night have won at home.

We all wanted a home game. It's irrelevant what's happened elsewhere. We've won more home games than away games this season so it is a advantage.
I like the fact it’s a one off winner takes all now and in the semi…no faffing around hoping to turn it round in the second leg…..would rather see us beaten than going in to the game over cautious and losing without a proper attack minded approach from the start

Whilst i suggested an away game wouldn't be the worst thing that could happen, massively looking forward to Thursday evening at the COA now
Despite everything, i retain that same degree of optimism as ever (yeah, i know, triumph of optimism over experience...)
If we overcome Southend we'll get an away fixture anyway, as with the usual flow of league fixtures
Thursday is massive and also a massive hurdle as we rarely 'do it' when it matters. I'd go as far to say psychologically if we win on Thursday I'd be confident of going to Forest Green and getting to Wembley - we'd have all the momentum and they wouldn't have played a game for 2 weeks.

Yes, tomorrow is a cup match, a shoot out. We can't afford to stroll around with no intent, we are at home and need to take the game to Southend. Definitely not a game for overplaying around our own penalty box, we've gifted too many goals by doing that. Southend haven't conceded in their last four games, we have the forward players to change that though, Bird, Rodney, Henderson, Mitchell are all capable and all four will probably be needed tomorrow at some point. Approach the game in the right way and learn from the Spennymore debacle. We're good enough to beat Southend, they've won twice in their last nine away games so there's nothing to fear. We have to show our intent from the first whistle.

Just listening to Chris Millington prior to ko tonight, his assesment included a comment that FCHT found Southend hard to play against in both their matches whilst pointing out his team played well against all the other teams in the playoffs and fearing none.
Strange team Halifax. Only Ebbsfleet scored fewer goals in the league than their 50 and their away record is better than their home record. It can’t all be down to the pitch.

After a poor run and on the back of three straight defeats, Oldham were at home to Hartlepool on Good Friday. The away side, as they did at Spotland, turned up wearing their all-sky blue away kit. With our black shorts and darker looking shirt, this didn’t create much of an issue but Oldham felt the need to change their socks from blue to white to help differentiate and avoid as much of a clash.
They won that game. So they wore white socks against Ebbsfleet at Boundary Park on the last day when they needed a result to secure a home tie in the playoffs. There was no need to do this as there was no clash.

They won. Again. Never underestimate the power of random white socks (see Dale’s Great Escape in 2018)
Unfortunately, or not, York wear white socks at home.

Well they well and truly socked it to Halifax.

Hats off to Oldham - what a performance. Blew Halifax away in the first 12 minutes. Pace, power, set piece threat and great finishing. The perfect game almost. They will certainly give York a few problems playing like that.

Halifax provided what was probably the worst performance of any team I've seen this season. Woeful from start to finish. Oldham have Fondop, Yoganathan and simply bombed the box with high balls and Halifax were clueless. York will be a different proposition altogether.

That’ll be the same Oldham who have been criticised for months for having no discernible style of play and stumbled into the playoffs?
McNulty should be more concerned his players produce the types of performances we saw during the run-in when it mattered.
No, it was not the same Oldham at all......completely bossed the game from start to finish. Stumbling into the play-offs, well maybe, but they are certainly a match for any team.

Oldham played an absolute blinder last night. Exactly how we should approach the game tonight as the home team. They went straight at Halifax, and never gave them a moment to settle. Fully deserved their win, and must now be serious contenders to go all the way.
