I'm liking the reference to Kevin Betsy in this statement, and the general tone of it seems to be that Nourry at least recognises the need for stability/continuity if these players are actually going to develop and also that he maybe needs to work a bit harder to keep the fans onside (especially at this precise moment). | | | |

The language the guy uses is so devoid from reality it’s laughable. Frankly it doesn’t matter if it comes from chat GPT or it’s his own, he’s way off base trying to come across an upper class English language speaker. Rule number 1 of marketing: connect with your audience.
Secondly, I’m not sure how this is even news. He signed a long term deal and was contract protected. No danger of leaving or being poached for pennies. So he’s basically got a pay rise, that’s it. Varane also needs to be flipped next season regardless, when he’ll be 25. Any age over above that, his value will quickly depreciate. Again, he was well under contract for that particular outcome.
Thirdly, Jonathan Varane is not a ball carrying midfielder. One solo run against Sunderland, aside, over the course of a full season, was a complete anomaly. On balance, he showed enough promise last season to earn an extension. Unfortunately, without knowing what we paid to sign him and what this is an extension either to or from, it's hard to say how excited I am on the erectometer from lazy-lob to raging horn.
Nourry has done something quite clever there by drawing attention to the elephant in the room, promising to potentially discuss the elephant in the room at some unspecified time when some unspecified conditions are met, and then tacitly disassociating the elephant in the room from the important preparations for next season.
