Trent Alexander Arnold being booed 08:31 - May 12 with 9863 viewsnumptydumpty

Utter disgrace by Liverpool fans.

Club legend.

Local lad.

Been there from a very young boy.

Major part of their impressive glory days of recent years.

Leaving for a new exciting challenge

Not cost them a penny in terms of a transfer fee.

What other club's fanbase would do this ??

Too stupid I would wager.

The free transfer is part of the game and if a player wants to move, it pays for him to be on a free as he has the opportunity to get shedloads more dosh from his new club and who wouldn't wish to do that, if they changed jobs.

Although some players become fans and play like this also, which is brilliant but ultimately they are employees in a career like half the world. It's no different.

I have seen some on here criticising Jimmy Dunne for potentially being in this circumstance himself and some fans are angry with Jimmy for doing this. I understand we could have got a fee potentially but if we had have done, his potential new club is not going to be able to afford vastly increased wages, which he otherwise would have done.

It's a mentality of a great deal of fans today.

But IMHO it's complete nonsense...

I have no issue with Dunne doing this. He has been a wholhearted servant to the club during his stay here and deserves thanks from our fans not criticism and all during a year of difficult personal loss for himself also.

Interesting. I'd never boo a player wearing our shirt personally, seems a bit counterintuitive if you want them to play well, but I think it's fair enough to be honest. Nobody should begrudge Trent or any other player leaving for free at the end of their contract, that's their right and essentially exactly what they are being paid to do when they signed it in the first place. But I get why people would boo that. You've made a choice to prioritize your own career and put that first in front of the clubs benefit. Again, totally understandable and acceptable from the players POV but it's hardly surprising that thousands of fans who have the club first at heart are disappointed with that decision.

You get why fans would boo Trent leaving on a free. And you think it's fair enough.

He has been a major part of why in the last few seasons they have won two Premier league titles and a champions league also.

But you understand why thousands would boo him and think it's fair enough.

If I was Trent, what I would be thinking to the thousands of beer swilling, pie eating fans, whilst he has adhered to nutrition, gym work, and living like a saint, like top players have to do, working away from home and not partaking in Christmas every single year, but yet you get why thousands of fans would boo him.

Prioritising his own career over helping the club. Err think he had done both brilliantly for many many seasons.

I totally don't get why thousands of fans boo a great servant of the club at all.

As said, if people think it's OK, personally if thousands of our fans did this to a club legend, I would think who are these people and what exactly are they on. And personally I would be angry towards are own "fans" because they would not be "fans" of our club for me, if thousands did this.

If thousands of "QPR" fans did this, I would wager to an outgoing amazing player for the club, I would suggest many thousands more would be singing the players name at the top of their voice. If they didn't I would truly question our fan base. There was no positive response at all from other Liverpool fans. He has helped massively in their club winning the most competitive and prestigious league in world football and also was a huge part of them winning the most prestigious knockout tournament in world club football.

Farcical is one word for it and that's the politest word that could be used.

So apparently it is being reported that Madrid are paying Liverpool 10 million euros to release Trent from his contract 30 days early just so he can play the Club World Cup. That's madness and can't be true surely?

Apparently so, I agree it's mad but my Real Madrid mate reckons it's mostly to keep a positive relationship with Liverpool while also generating excitement/fan engagement ahead of and during the CWC, additionally it boosts their chances of doing well in the tournament given the obscene prize money available. RM clearly think it's a shrewd move and a risk worth taking, for Liverpool it's a no brainer.

I know the top clubs are awash with money but it still seems stupid to me - they gave Modrić and more pertinently Vazquez a one month contract extension just for the stupid additional FIFA money spinning competition

Shit but local

Agreed - I think their anger is from the lack of a fee

Either way the boos are ridiculous

And now, irony of ironies, Liverpool have secured a fee thanks to Trent leaving a month early. Those boos look very silly now.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Infantino and FIFA stumped up for it . Ronaldo will end
Up playing at this charade as well.

Think you are right, it’s a joke tournament that will no doubt make Infantino, FIFA and the ‘elite’ clubs millions to add to what they already have.

Probably this. They've looked at it and thought that they might as well throw marketing money at making the tournament more sellable for the media.
Expect a few more nuggets of bringing in 'harlem globetrotter' type cameos.
Rollerball for the ages.....

You can't tell me a tournament pitting giants of the game like Ulsan Hyundai against Mamelodi Sundowns F.C or Botafogo against the Seattle Sounders is a joke. I'm mildly offended my son's U15 side that finished bottom of the HML 3rd division weren't invited.
