Trent Alexander Arnold being booed 08:31 - May 12 with 11169 viewsnumptydumpty

Utter disgrace by Liverpool fans.

Club legend.

Local lad.

Been there from a very young boy.

Major part of their impressive glory days of recent years.

Leaving for a new exciting challenge

Not cost them a penny in terms of a transfer fee.

What other club's fanbase would do this ??

I can remember "Oh" Bobby Zamora getting dog's abuse and roundly boo'ed by Rs fans at Stoke. People in glass houses should remember us fans are fickle.

I agree but if Bobby had not scored that goal, his performances for our team were underwhelming.

Trent has performed brilliantly for Liverpool for many seasons at a very high level.

I don't agree with Zamora being booed when he playing for us in anyways but for them booing Trent not good, is it ??

It is pretty mad. I don't think they did it when Keegan left or when Rush signed for Juventus, so it's definitely a modern phenomenon. Obviously Gerrard got appalling treatment when he was set to join Chelsea too.

Trent seems like a decent guy too. He didn’t lie to them about signing another contract and then reneging on it. It was always pretty clear he'd be off this summer, and fair play to him for wanting to experience another culture.

Another home grown player (albeit Everton fan originally)Steve McManaman got similar stick apparently when he made the same move to RM on a free.

Couldn't give a shit about Liverpool, but it does annoy me the way their fans are venerated. Listening to the radio yesterday, the presenter kept saying how 'knowledgeable' liverpool fans are. They just seem the same ad the rest of us to me, with an added dollop of entitlement and narcissism.

Heard a bloke say unless you’re a scouser you wouldn’t understand and shouldn’t comment 🤣
Worse fans anywhere (apart from Leeds and Chelsea perhaps)

I’m sure Liverpool would’ve known last summer he wasn’t going to sign a new contract so they could’ve sold him for decent money then but chose to keep him for this season.
And if TAA didn’t want any boos he could’ve announced he was leaving after the season ended:

Or no-one was prepared to match their valuation of him.

I'm still not sure where he'll fit into the Madrid side and given how they've hoovered up galacticos in the past with no real plan other than assembling a footballing Harlem Globetrotters, maybe they don't either.

The booing was out of order though.

14 Liverpool fans were convicted of manslaughter

Each got three years which were suspended for five years, so not only were they able to return from Belgium they didn’t either spend a day in the clink.

Not disagreeing with you but when you keep saying how much you love the club, what it means to you, then you can begin to understand the fans negative feelings. However they shouldn't boo, that is ridiculous.

Of course he loves the club. He's a local lad who represented his local team with distinction for 20 years. He now has the opportunity to join arguably the biggest club in the world in Real Madrid. Taking that opportunity doesn't diminish his love for Liverpool FC.

The Liverpool fans who boo believe Trent should have ensured that Liverpool got a fee for him. The fact he has engineered this move to leave on a free they feel is disrespectful towards the club.

Player puts himself first and not the club, shock horror! It is also alleged that Liverpool turned down a 20 million pound bid fee for him in January, silly them.

Fair play to Trent for broadening his horizons and giving Real Madrid a go. In my opinion Real Madrid would never have paid a big fee for him so the only way to make the move happen would have been a free transfer or low fee, he had to run down his contract to ensure that the move would be completed.

Him going on a free is the major crux of the issues but the Liverpool fans have a real problem with home grown lads leaving the club . Others can come and go as heroes like Barnes, Rush and Dalglish for example . But the likes of McManaman, Owen (even before he played for United) , Gerrard whilst he pondered leaving and now Trent , seemed to be vilified in thinking there is a life away from Anfield.
I don’t buy into a lot of the stuff written on this thread but there is a certain arrogance projected for sure .

Why shouldn’t they boo him? At the moment Liverpool are one of the best clubs in Europe and he has moved to a rival club. All the points about him coming through the youth system etc just make it worse!

The most rediculous thing about all of this is that some seem to hold Liverpool fans in higher regard than other football fans!

I also don't get the abuse Zamora got. He was turning out when he could with a hip injury and playing through pain and injections, when many other players we've had over the past few years would just be sitting on their hands taking the money.

Were you around or too young maybe? Not quite sure how’d you miss this if you were there for 92/93 season. It was a complete 5 year ban and then a gradual reintroduction of teams. We didn’t get back to normal quota until 95/96. So it was our 92/93 team that finished 5th that were denied European football due to Liverpool. US, Oxford and Wimbledon were clubs that qualifying would have made such a difference for. Ban made no difference to likes of Liverpool, Man U etc, but it would have made a huge difference to us both financially but also for us fans. Are we ever going to be in Europe again in my lifetime? It still annoys me to this day.

Some interesting info on this here:

Every fanbase has a vocal minority who boo / single out certain players for abuse, for all manner of often quite tenuous reasons...always have, always will.

I still cringe when I think back to the Loft singing "Sealy must go!" at Tony Sealy. Just imagine how that must make you feel. Was chuffed when he shoved it down the boo boys' throats as top scorer in the following promotion season. All manner of other decent Rangers players (personality-wise as well as football-wise) have received unmerited stick but managed to turn it round - Furlong, Barker, Leach etc

Trent, albeit it at a far higher profile / level, has arguably "done a Manning / BOS / Willock" - suspect it's as simple as LFC fans wishing he'd "done a Cook / Eze". Cunha at Wolves and Murillo at Forest could well both go this summer, but signed mid-season extensions so their club didn't feel shafted - so it can be done.

Never feel comfortable witnessing a public pile on onto a certain fanbase / club / city. Every fanbase / club / city has all sorts under its umbrella - the bigger the fanbase / club / city, the more they'll have of everything - including those who boo or act in what could be construed to be an entitled manner.

We have all sorts on this board, which in turn, as is often pointed out, has a far different spread of opinions to QPR Twitter. Just can't tar all with the same brush anywhere.

Poll: Best hug a stranger / fall down five rows / 'limbs' late goals this season

...and there is s lot of the problem - most people kicking off at Trent are probably too young/stupid to remember players who've run down their contracts to come TO Liverpool on a Bosman.

I think Joe Cole might have done just that but as he was signed to the SW6 Shìtmonkeys at the time that's not just acceptable but commendable.

Too stupid I would wager.

The free transfer is part of the game and if a player wants to move, it pays for him to be on a free as he has the opportunity to get shedloads more dosh from his new club and who wouldn't wish to do that, if they changed jobs.

Although some players become fans and play like this also, which is brilliant but ultimately they are employees in a career like half the world. It's no different.

I have seen some on here criticising Jimmy Dunne for potentially being in this circumstance himself and some fans are angry with Jimmy for doing this. I understand we could have got a fee potentially but if we had have done, his potential new club is not going to be able to afford vastly increased wages, which he otherwise would have done.

It's a mentality of a great deal of fans today.

But IMHO it's complete nonsense...

I have no issue with Dunne doing this. He has been a wholhearted servant to the club during his stay here and deserves thanks from our fans not criticism and all during a year of difficult personal loss for himself also.

Trent is being booed because he ran his contract down to leave on a free.

Agreed - I think their anger is from the lack of a fee

Either way the boos are ridiculous

Pure hearsay but I think Dunne's scenario is different to say Manning, BOS or Willock. I don't know the specifics but he appears to want a longer contract than the club is prepared to offer (4 yrs rather than 3) and I really don't see a problem there, given his availability, performances and overall attitude.

BOS wanted to go to and win some silverware and fair pay to him, he has done. Manning ran down his deal with us, ran down his deal with Swansea and will likely run down his deal with Southampton in a couple of years. At 30, he might not be the belle of the ball anymore. Willock we all know about. I don't think I'd have pushed the boat out to keep any of them bar maybe BOS.

The two players I would happily boo in recent times after leaving Rangers was Jack Robinson who we looked after for a whole season whilst he was crocked and then fûcked off to SheffU and Grant Hall who also spent a lot of the time on the physios bench but then during the end of the covid season refused to play as he had lined up a move to Boro.

The answer to “what other club fan base would do this” is unfortunately most. I am regularly embarrassed by the amount of ex-Hoops being booed by some of our fans. Even the ones who start off getting applause are quickly called told you’re a c by the R block if they have the temerity to try and win the game for their new team.

Drove past this bullshit today.

This is why they're the worst fans. It's not enough to win, they've got to be just so annoying with it. They're set to 'smug' and 'self-important' the whole time.

It's a bit keen.

My best mate is staunch Palace. Been going his whole life and finally gets to see them win their first trophy, he's not putting pretentious fking twaddle on his house. He's getting on with enjoying it.
