I don't think it should always be the case that if you are 21 and not in the first team you are released, Kelman is a good example of someone who it was worth sticking with and may end up getting money for him or him being good for us
This does look the right call though and hopefully Murphy can get himself a club and have a good career

It may well be that the club thought Murphy was worth another go on a pro Contract but only prepared to offer peanuts. Harry and his advisors may well have said they want x or it’s walkway time. So walkway time it is.
What I’m saying is…. Even if considered good enough there’s no guarantee we’d keep / retain some of these lads due to budget constraints (yoof spending isn’t FFP but flipping to Senior Pro player is)
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

No surprise on Murphy - Cifuentes took him on last preseason and then didn’t even give him a squad number which speaks for itself and it’s been a year lost without men’s football. They could’ve given him another year with a new manager but it’s probably the right time for him to try and find a club where he can play 20+ men’s games next season. His Cup final footage should help his agent line him something up.
As said previously I wouldn’t be surprised if Talla, Aoraha and Petrie get similar farewells imminently as they’ll never make it here.

The academy is doing well. It's not only seeing higher quality players coming through the ranks but also attracting better youngsters released from other clubs.
It must continue to do the things that are driving these improvements and I think releasing players at a younger age who are not going to make it is part of that process. The release of 8 U18s seems to indicate that's going to happen at lower age groups. It will be interesting to see what the U16s who move into the U18s are like.
I hope we see more players progressing from the DS into good loans out or inclusion in the senior squad next season.
I haven't said that I disagree with the policy, I don't, all I was saying was that you need to keep one of two around to strengthen the development team, so that younger boys coming through have a better chance of stepping up successfully.
I remember one recent season where we a senior out of contract centre back, who had played several seasons for other clubs but never for us, was given permission to train with us and then used in the reserves to give the others a bit of leadership. Can't remember who it was. As Hansen said ' you win nothing .....'😳😁
As I said a happy medium.
Disappointing for Murphy; I thought he might have been another Chair, but happy to trust the professional judgement.

Kelman though was playing at 17yo for Southend, 30 odd appearances. It's not really the same as Murphy.
In that PL Cup final Murphy was 2/3 years older than the vast majority of our players so he's reached his level. Good luck to him, and I hope he gets a decent NL or L2 team.
And, Nourry definitely deserves some credit for laying out early what the expectations are for youngsters. Can't be easy to let these youngsters go. The next step is to get these youngsters in the 1st team which we might see next season more regularly.

We already are, Morgan, Sutton, Kolli even Lloyd was DS previous season(s). I do agree though more need to get a chance but maybe better loans initially for the Tuck and others.
I do prefer this model of being ruthless if they aren’t there by 20/21 - my question would be, why did we keep him on this year if, no matter how strongly he performed in the Dev squad (ie being a top performer which he seemed to be), they were going to deem him too old for the amount of men’s football experience he’s had. Seems like both parties have wasted a year .

no problem with that but unless he was to have a major growth spurt he was never gonna be the desired 6 foot tall from a earlier age which seem to be the minimum for some clubs , so why have we kept him around for that long ? anyone remember dennis wise ? he was let go by southamtpon as a kid due to him being a midget , trianed with us for a while before being picked up wimbledon
Maybe that move to Wimbledon was just want Dennis Wise needed at that point in his development? A move lower down, playing regular men's football actually helped him grow.
A season in the South East Counties reserves might have seen him stall?
The silly thing with Rangers is that for the last x years we've either been trying to get promoted, or fighting relegation, which makes it really hard for anyone to step into the team.
It's only at the end of the season when we've finished 16th again that we can look back and ponder if starting Harry Murphy at Oxford instead of Dembele would have been the end of the world? A shame, as from what I saw in the PL Cup his corners and free kicks beat the first man more often than not, which puts him ahead of half the first team squad

Collioure, which you can get to on the train from Perpignan, is delightful:
"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Dembele is less than a year older than Murphy, but has around 100 senior games in him already, including international caps at every age group. Who's more worth investing game time in, who's got a better chance of making it as a first-choice Championship player? (And Dembele is not quite there yet himself).
Dennis Wise, by the way, made his debut for Wimbledon at 18 and had played 50 odd games in the top division by time he was 20. He was Murphy's age when he won the FA Cup.
I think the size is a red herring - look at Dembele or Saito, who both also want to play in that same floaty 10 position. As far as I can tell, it's as much pace that's lacking. Murphy plays like a veteran in the Development - calm, authoritative, nice range of passing - but that's cos he is at that level. I imagine the club think he's miles off imposing himself on men's football the way he'd need to in that position.
You can't keep 21 year old 'youth' players who look likely to hit 22 before starting a first team game, no matter how good their corners are or what nice young men they appear. If I was his agent, I'd be looking at MLS clubs, Australia, maybe some European leagues. I just don't see a huge number of L1, L2 or even NL needed his kind of player. They all need RBs, so Arkell Boyd stood a better chance at that level.

Disappointed for Murphy, I only saw him play in the youth cup, and looked a good player with a fantastic dead ball but physically small. Quite Barry Bannon like IMHO. However with the new Aussie kid coming in its unlikely he would be around the 1st team. I think he will do well at league one or two and with luck will work his way back up the leagues,

oh yeah every player is different, just don't think it should be a case of if you haven't made it by 21 then you are out, you will get some at that age who could get better
The key as you say is getting these players in the first team and them doing well. We had a spell a few years back when we seemed to be going the right way with Eze, Chair, Manning, Smyth etc but then it hit a wall, would be game changing for the club if we could get this right

It is a bit weird how much people bang on about height when we've been watching one of the best ever players strut his stuff at 5'7" for the last 15 years.

And Messi would have been even shorter but for the growth hormones.

I feel disappointed for him too. We do have a few No10's now so I guess he wouldn't have got many 1st team games unless our injury nightmares in that position get even worse next season, I wouldn't be shocked. But why didn't we try and get him out on a good season long loan, get him "man's football" and evaluate him again next summer?

Maybe no one wanted him. Brutal, but that may be the reason no loan was found for him, or the club used him as an older player due to having so many 18yo in the team. Again, pretty brutal.
I want to point out that during that PL Final he looked great when he had a bit of time, but there were three or four occasions, especially 2nd half, when we were in great positions and he made the wrong choice due to being under pressure. Unfortunately he just isn't good enough.

agree think at the time of dennis being at the club , we had a certain person behind the scenes , who liked a certain type of player byt thats for another time prob if ever to be honest
