NL playoff final 11:32 - May 24 with 1897 viewsEllDale

From what I can gather neither Oldham nor Southend have received their tickets yet.
Apparently there is no tube service covering Wembley a week tomorrow so the authorities want to restrict each club to 17500 tickets due to anticipated travel difficulties although they may be allowed additional tickets if they can prove that the extra fans are travelling by coach and so won’t be using public transport.
Sounds a right mess created by the NL, Wembley and Transport for London between them.
Southend are claiming that they could have sold 30000 tickets.

The clubs won't receive tickets per se. They are sold via a tickets portal.

The issue over allocations is ridiculous, considering the works on the underground had to be booked in at least 6 months ago when it was known there was an event at Wembley.

I suppose it hasn’t helped matters that two clubs with a broad fan base have qualified.
FGR versus Gateshead might not have created the same issues.
I believe the record attendance for the final is 47000 when Bristol Rovers played Grimsby a few years ago.

It is about time the playoff final was played at a neutral venue, like Villa Park for example. The atmosphere in a half or third full stadium like Wembley, compared to the stadium mentioned above would be totally different.

You have to feel for the Southend and even the Biffo fans for the chaos caused to them.

It shouldn't matter who's qualified; all clubs have to be treated equally.

Even with the tube station shut it shouldn't alter the allocation. Just travel by coach/bus/car - the majority of Oldham fans would be travelling this way anyway. There are hundreds of football grounds around the country that have to make do without a tube facility.

Isn't it strange that Genghis Khan's tfl can ship 50,000 pro-Hamas followers to central London, inconveniencing thousands of Londoners, tourists etc, but on the day 50,000 footy supporters want to go about their legal and lawful business (I'm giving 'Owdam fans the benefit of the doubt here) that tfL NEED to 'work' urgently on a specific stretch of line. it stinks.

Eh! Protests of many thousands strong take place in London regularly every year, plus big attendances for state occasions like Trooping The Colour.
There has never and will never be a protest / demo in the name of Hamas as it is rightly a banned organisation. Bugger all to do with the Mayor.

'The Mayor of London is chair of tfl who are responsible for implementing the Mayor's Transport Strategy, and for he day to day operational running of transport services in London'
That is from Cit hall's own website, which covers all aspects of THE MAYOR'S duties and responsibilities.

Apparently the NL have known about this for some time but hadn’t advised member clubs.

On the first day of sales Oldham have sold 10,500 and Southend have sold 12,500. Great effort all around, they go on general sale tomorrow

Its not the end of the world. Owdum have been given an extra 9,000 tickets if they are sold with a coach package. They have pre-booked 50 coaches so are not expecting to sell that allocation out. If they want those 9,000 seats in full they'll need to hire 180 coaches. Up to the fans if they want to go. I think we took 17,000 to our play-off game and we had 88 coaches booked.

As for the other ticket holders you can still travel to the other 2 overground/underground stations on the opposite side of Wembley. The Chiltern line from Birmingham stops at Wembley for those prepared to get to the midlands.

Southend have issued a statement today to suggest that the capacity restriction may be lifted as TFL tries to add additional services to other stations nearby.

This has been an issue for lots of Wembley events - not just the NL playoff. When Newcastle got to the League Cup final the East Coast mainline was closed and they wouldn't delay the rail works.

As you say it’s not uncommon.
When Wigan played Warrington in the RL Challenge Cup final last year Network Rail closed the West Coast mainline on the same weekend.
I think the issue has been the short notice. Where do you source 180 coaches at this time of year?
Oldham and Southend are still shifting plenty of tickets. I believe the Boundary Park office stayed open until 10.30pm last night.
