NL playoff final 11:32 - May 24 with 10598 views | EllDale | From what I can gather neither Oldham nor Southend have received their tickets yet. Apparently there is no tube service covering Wembley a week tomorrow so the authorities want to restrict each club to 17500 tickets due to anticipated travel difficulties although they may be allowed additional tickets if they can prove that the extra fans are travelling by coach and so won’t be using public transport. Sounds a right mess created by the NL, Wembley and Transport for London between them. Southend are claiming that they could have sold 30000 tickets.

NL playoff final on 15:26 - Jun 1 by Clivert | I must admit 21'000 is poor for a club of Oldham's size, after all they are 'founder members of The Premier League'. 1-0 to Southend early on. |
I thought they'd sell plenty more, can't believe how deluded they are, id just love it if Southend turn them over today, still a long way to go....

Missed first 15 mins but Southend should be down to 10 men, Biffos should have had a pen and Fondop can't chip like Hendo but should have buried it when through on keeper. So far so good 👍 Edit - spoke too soon [Post edited 1 Jun 16:21]

NL playoff final on 18:00 - Jun 1 with 2712 views | _Windydale | Really good game for a neutral. End to end, without much game management to be clever to manage the score line, just two teams attacking giving there all. Uchebeglum with an assist. Gratz oldham.wish it was us though. Allthough think weve had lost by set pieces or going defensive. [Post edited 1 Jun 19:24]

Played 3 and scored 10 whilst conceding 2. Including a clean sheet away at York. There's a reason they escaped the NL

Definitely. The 46 game season is about securing a top seven spot. Only if you’re constantly challenging for the top spot will results matter every single week. Mellon backed himself through a run when fans had had enough, talking about getting a point here and there was all part of getting into the playoffs. Then the real business began. He’d stumbled across a team that included players who’d hardly played (Garner got 5 goals in 4 games after starting against Ebbsfleet on the final day), and they all of a sudden looked like they’d never lose. Ask any Oldham fan how bad some of their games have been this season, they’ll have all forgotten now anyway. So when it comes to style of play, tactics, good games, bad games, squad building and everything else, the main thing that affects mood are moments in the matches that matter. And the final result. If it’s an entertainment business, there wouldn’t have been as many season ticket holders at Boundary Park next season. But as it’s a results business, you can bet they’ll be selling another couple of thousand after today.

NL playoff final on 19:43 - Jun 1 with 2202 views | dingdangblue | Well done Oldham. Played brilliantly in the 2 play off games then rode their luck today with the winner. Although they should have scored more in 90mins with the chances they missed. We would never have scored that winning goal because we dont play balls like that into the box where anything can happen. Interestingly they'll be loving the substitute referee! He came on for the last 10 minutes and they scored 2!!

NL playoff final on 23:08 - Jun 1 with 1723 views | Yorkshire_Dale | Great game to watch with both teams going hammer and tongs at each other.....really wanted Southend to win and our lot avoid another trip to far Essex. Trouble is they will be at it next season to finish the job. They took 4 points from Dale and knocked us out of the play offs. Hope this game shows the further demise of the constant playing out from the back( constant being pertinant word) and promotion of pacy attacking play and deliveries into the dreaded "corridor of uncertainty" as highlighted by the DAZN lot. The winner for Latics was a simple chaos causer from miles out. I know McNulty does n't like this sort of stuff but the fans do. Would our lot have wilted under the Wembley sun today, I think I know my answer.

Our own loss. If it ain't broke, Jim'll break it. Ad nauseum. Fair play to the BIFFO's for doing the business when our manager blatantly can't. One wonders if the hooligan tendencies of too many of their fanbase will cost them in points when they get to League 2? It should have on several occasions in the NL. Commiserations to Southend's fans who have put up one hell of a fight to save their club over many years and near death experiences. And their team who deservedly spanked us when Jim broke up a successful formula.
NL playoff final on 08:11 - Jun 2 with 1317 views | Dale_4_Life | Congratulations Oldham who found a way to win 4 consecutive games when it mattered. They should have had the game wrapped up in 90, then found a way to come from behind twice to win promotion. Back to the template to get back to the football league from the National League. Part of the template is resilience combined with ruthlessness. Something Dale have been lacking in recent years. Lets hope there is a real noticeable change next season in how the players are encouraged to entertain us whilst also collecting 3 points more often than not.

Ruthlessness is a key ingredient that needs to come from the top, from those running the club and especially from the manager. We haven't got any of it, happy to be gallant losers and look for excuses. It's not good enough for any manager to suggest we aren't ready for promotion on the eve of a play off game, that sends out a terrible defeatist attitude. I dont believe those in the Boardroom can be happy when the leader of the team has a mindset like that. It's reflected in displays though, in game management and substitutions. A lack of ruthlessness and belief, a lack of that winning mentality in the big moments. We'll compete, the budget will allow us to do that but without a ruthlessness, real belief and winning mentality we'll keep pulling up short. The league position tells everybody we are good enough but the results against the better teams and in the crucial games reveals a lack of real belief and that comes from the top. It needs to change because otherwise the Ogdens are simply wasting the budget. The more i think about it the more i think we need a new manager because McNulty won't change, he's comfortable with losing against teams with bigger budgets, he expects it and seems surprised that the fan base doesn't. His demeanour during the post match interview after the Southend game spoke volumes to me, you wouldn't have thought he'd just been involved in a season defining game of football.. a wry smirk, perfectly groomed, passionless, no emotion. The total opposite of everybody else who had attended the game. [Post edited 2 Jun 10:32]

NL playoff final on 10:45 - Jun 2 with 1041 views | dawlishdale | Having spoken to several long suffering fans over the weekend (before Oldham showed us how to do it yesterday, for which I applaud them) they are all of the opinion that we really messed up this season when we had a fantastic chance of promotion and cup success. Every single one of the people I spoke with has watched Dale for well over 30 years. we can't all be hopelessly wrong in saying that Jim is the problem. Negativity from the Manager leads to negativity throughout the whole club. Our squad last season was more than capable of winning the FA Trophy and getting at least to Wembley. I would be absolutely amazed if the Board aren't fuming with Jim's negative tactics and passionless personality. I hope they've read the riot act to him.

That was Mickey Mellons 6th Promotion! Play-offs with Fleetwood, Tranmere x2 and Oldham. National League Champions with Fleetwood and a promotion with Shrewsbury. Oldham knew what they were appointing. I know you've got to start somewhere so Jim's got my backing this season - if he can start learning from his past mistakes. Its a big season for him.

How does Jim get over his inferiority complex when it comes to budgets and clout though? That's a serious question because he obviously accepts it as a valid reason to lose games against teams in this league and it wont change. It's the same for the majority of managers, there are always some clubs with a larger budget. [Post edited 2 Jun 11:22]

Unless he chooses to leave, he'll be here come August, but for me he's got until the end of November. Unless the mindset has changed, change the mindset with a new manager before the Xmas/NY period
