Gary lineker... on 08:44 - May 27 by GroveR | He did it abroad as well at a time very few players went overseas. Something like a goal every other game for Barcelona. |
And a record like that despite being shoved out onto the wing in his last season there after Cruyff took over.

Gary lineker... on 09:08 - May 27 by Sonic_Hoop | It's not funded 'entirely' by the license fee, the BBC's commercial operations also raise revenue. Plus, for every £1 spent by the BBC it generates about £2.50 for the economy. There's an awful lot wrong with the BBC, but Lineker's tweeting and the money they pay "talent", isn't a serious issue. Lineker was the host of Motd, not a News or Political journalist and they consistently air their views outside the BBC, without censure. I'm not sorry he's gone, I just think the manner in which he's been "cancelled" is a bit disingenuous. |
I take your point "entirely" its about 65% apparently I dont think he has been cancelled though , he had a 10 min send off on MOTD . I dont want to get on the wrong side of the debate here I think the Israel Prime Minister is a war criminal who is putting his own welfare ahead of thousands of innocents . I look forward to seeing him on trial . IMO Lineker has probably broken his contract with the BBC after a warning or two , they have deided to part ways .

I can't see his podcast episode with Netanyahu, odd

Gary lineker... on 08:57 - May 27 by francisbowles | Agree with all of this BUT, as a license fee payer, I do think he was massively overpaid and that the BBC should be using much less. costly but professional 'journalists'. |
Be interesting to see how much it is going to cost them to have 3 presenters now, will probably still be similar money

Your probably right daveB. I think it's ridiculous. Then you have a couple of pundits, almost certainly on big money on big money as well. I know these 'football celebs' can and do earn big money on the other channels but that's down to them and their subscribers. The BBC needs to spend it's money more wisely and increase the product, the amount of football, and reduced the amount of chat.

it's hard though as if they want to show the best sports and offer the best coverage they have to pay for it to stay relevant

If he did break his contract with the BBC why was he still allowed to go out on his terms by presenting Sunday’s motd? He should’ve gone last week and not be given the opportunity of a last hurrah on Sunday.

It was agreed months ago that Sunday would be his last show, the latest argument just means he won't front the FA Cup and World Cup coverage next year which was a mutual agreement rather than him getting the boot

But if you or I broke the rules at work I guess we’d be shown the door straight away, not allowed to leave at the end of the week.

Gary lineker... on 12:43 - May 27 with 1128 views | Sonic_Hoop | I don't know why the BBC has to pay upwards of £200m to advertise the Premier League for them. I'm sure they could target that money at a football audience more creatively.

If you’re already on the way out for doing the wrong things in the past,I guess most employers wouldn’t be as generous as the BBC in allowing you to make the same mistake again.

Gary lineker... on 09:00 - May 27 by QPunkR | There's a rat in the post - of course it's wrong to use old racist tropes but the entire crux of the actual video was about explaining Zionism and he obviously feels strongly about thousands of innocent Gazans being slaughtered, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he either wasn't aware of the rat as a trope or he hadn't noticed it, given he was sharing a reasonably lengthy video |
Turn it in. However one feels about the conflict, it's clear that Gary knew exactly what he was doing. It wasn't the first time he's posted the image of the rat. [Post edited 27 May 15:57]
