Ben Williams is back on 12:42 - Jun 4 by SW_Ranger | I can only see this as a positive. We dared to try something different, we all know now it didn’t work out. Most of all the board saw it too and it has changed back. What more could you ask really. Come on guys … try a little smile now and again - it works |
Very daring. I mean who here among us could have foreseen that having the bloke in charge of your nutrition, fitness, injury recovery and sport science working on the other side of the world while doing two other jobs wouldn't work out? Why stop here? Maybe we could dare to try something different next season as well, like playing without a goalkeeper perhaps? 11 outfielders, what's not to like? To dare is to do.

TBF letting your head of performance live in Dubai while your whole squad gets injured at the same time does sound pretty Spursy.

I know that cynical is my default setting but the timing of this is interesting. Last week we were (allegedly) knocked back by Thorup. And now Williams has (finally) been recalled. Very tempting to put two and two together and think that the penny has finally dropped and the club realise they're not going to get any sort of half decent replacement for Cifuentes when the Director of Performance is living in a different time zone and juggling several other jobs.

Nah, all the perfectly innocent, not at all connected, newly registered, 'just a fan who hears things' anonymous accounts, have been posting and Tweeting for weeks that "the Williams thing was obviously a mistake, but fear not I hear on the grapevine a solution has been found".

At least they've come to their senses and accepted that setup was untenable. Shame it didn't happen a lot sooner.
Ben Williams is back on 15:24 - Jun 4 with 1784 views | stainrods_elbow | The fiasco with Williams is kind of a metaphor for our season: cutting corners on professionalism, people going missing, and a general air of all and sundry getting on with not doing their jobs properly. How a head of physio, or what he calls himself, can do their job remotely while hoovering up the Dubai dinah is beyond me! What techniques was he using? Faith healing?

Well said. I'd rather not have him back after sitting through that shambles. But as with most of this mess, would be happy to eat my words and call him the Messiah if it meant a decent, enjoyable season ahead.
Ben Williams is back on 15:47 - Jun 4 with 1720 views | Jevlar | Glad he's back but you've got to think the initial move to Dubai was mooted by Williams in the first place. For me, this is where the club went wrong. The club should have said it's us or whatever job and location you want. If not, shake hands and move on. Of course this is easy to say now, but surely if you're running a business and a head of department suggests extreme remote working to this level when the job really requires physical attendance, it's never a yes. Very true, and if you are running a business and you hire an agency to do some consultancy on a new hire / new project - then, as many agencies will do, they recommend themselves....you laugh loudly, say "nice try" and ask them to focus on the job in hand.

This. It is better to admit a mistake and rectify it than being to stubborn and carrying on regardless. You learn more through mistakes than everything going swimmingly. I think some on here are going to hammer Nourry no matter what he does. It is a bit tiresome.
Ben Williams is back on 16:54 - Jun 4 with 1439 views | lassel | At the risk of making a silly point amongst the adulation of the club rectifying the situation they created, we have just come off a diabolical season injury wise using Williams’ methodology so *why* exactly are we welcoming him back on our knees? If his methodology cannot work without him physically there to oversee it, I’d argue it’s not a very good methodology…..

Remarkable prescience from our mate CharlieB, predicting that the club were sorting this out despite having nothing whatsoever to do with the club. Do you do lottery numbers? Christian, if you're rectifying a mistake you made and you want us to know you are rectifying it, just tell us, you know, straight up, we can handle it. Absolutely no need to pay/send pretend people to let us know, that just worsens your relationship with supporters on here. Artlessly following the Page 1 suggestions on the Modern Digital Influencing and Manipulation of Opinion module you recently completed is not the way to get the supporters on your side. Being straight up really works. Try it. That aside, glad he's back in the building, looking forward to a healthier season. Onwards! [Post edited 4 Jun 17:07]

Well, the hope/expectation is he'll be as effective as he was in the previous season. If that is what happens, all well and good. But it was a very poor decision to let him go to Dubai in the first place.

I take your point but I'm not looking to hammer him on all of it. I try to be selective with my gripes and this is definitely one of them. Also not saying I want Williams led chained by the neck onto the pitch in a gimp mask and ritually humiliated before the first game but it wouldn't hurt. At that point I could move on. There are lots of things that you can dare to differently, but for the vast majority of them there are very good reasons why you wouldn't.

This is very fair, I think. When I heard first that he was "back" I wondered a few things, and one of them was whether he should be left into the building. But, in all honesty, we don't know if he was ever with us 100% in person, whether his contract allowed for multiple consultancies, or a million other things. So, agreed, let's just just hope that we get the results of 2023/2024.
