Ben Williams is back on 17:07 - Jun 4 by dmm | Well, the hope/expectation is he'll be as effective as he was in the previous season. If that is what happens, all well and good. But it was a very poor decision to let him go to Dubai in the first place. |
Which comes back to my point - if it only works with him physically on the ground every day, it’s not a very good methodology…

Just read that article - thanks for posting it. The final paragraph includes this: While working full time for the Nets on one side of the Atlantic, he remained a consultant with QPR. Williams worked full time at the Nets. I didn't know that.

Ben Williams is back on 17:50 - Jun 4 by Ned_Kennedys | It’s not good news for those who like to moan incessantly about everything QPR related. |
Is there much difference between "moaning incessantly about everything QPR related" and incessantly refusing to to acknowledge any failures or problems whatsoever? I'd say criticism of a club that let its head of performance move to another country and work other jobs at exactly the point their squad fitness fell off a cliff is pretty legitimate TBH. Particularly when they've just put another department head on gardening leave for seeking other jobs.

The criticism is 100% correct. It was a ridiculous position. But they have now corrected that mistake. They shouldn’t be congratulated but shouldn’t it be more, “well they’ve fixed it now. So let’s move on from this point.”

A fair question, James, but I guess that depends on how many mistakes people are prepared to move on from. That perspective varies quite considerably on here, which is only to be expected.
Ben Williams is back on 19:11 - Jun 4 with 1796 views | numptydumpty | I guess we will be able to assess if this guy is any good. First season, was it simply luck or coincidence or was the remote working to blame. To be honest I think 90% of people would say that the role that was given to Williams , one was in no way a role that could be done remotely and two was never a role that could be combined with other so called full time focusses. If he was good in year 1, then we will see. If it was myself as the employer, I would choose someone else, as Williams chose to do the role remotely and part time in conjunction with others. It was not his fault we offered him this but for me a committed and fully focused employee would be fully on board with ourselves and operating under circumstances where he could be up close and personal, given the nature of the role. To me the fact he accepted all that, suggests to me, he is greedy and as long as his own personal circumstances are favourable, he was not that bothered if he couldn't be as effective as he should have been. All red flags for me. I would have got someone in from elsewhere to operate here and to have this role as his / her only job. Ben Williams- i would not have interviewed, let alone appointed. He knowingly shafted the club last season. We have recognised this yet have re employed him still. Along with this gardening leave fiasco, the ill advised and amateurish decisions are mounting up. It's my own personal view but cant see how it can be seen from any other perspective. It, for me, shows poor judgment and a lack of knowledge of the roles we are recruiting for. If the people that are appointing our team, keep employing people in roles that are doomed to fail, it screams inexperience, which Nourry certainly is. But its the likes of Hoos and above that chose him in the first place Two words never heard uttered in recent times at QPR. DUE DILIGENCE !!!!! [Post edited 4 Jun 19:22]

It depends on whether you think he’s worth the trouble. Any other person in any other role would’ve been sacked for such catastrophically poor performance even if they were in the office everyday, let alone working from another country so at the risk of being a stuck record whether you think it’s good news or not defends whether you think last season was acceptable or not.

Well we thought he was great in season before last. Think we should reserve judgement for next season.

Ben Williams is back on 11:31 - Jun 4 by JamesB1979 | But that’s assuming the club didn’t tell Marti that Williams was coming back. Or Marti was sacked / resigned (still don’t know) and placed on gardening leave and then club suddenly told Williams to come back. Surely Marti had told club he was annoyed at Williams being in Dubai and what’s happening? Did club say “tough this will continue next season” or “it’s temporary and he will be coming back next season”. If the latter, then Marti didn’t have to make it such a big issue. If the former then the club lied. |
Or maybe Williams only agreed to come back BECAUSE Marti was leaving - who knows?

I'm not so sure it ends there for me. How do you trust or respect the job someone is doing when they've shown such a catastrophic lack of judgement in letting this happen in the first place? Saying they've fixed something after 9 - 12 months of it being a problem and clearly not in the best interest of the club, isn't really good enough and below the standard I'd want for people running our club.

Ben Williams is back on 14:11 - Jun 4 by Northernr | Very daring. I mean who here among us could have foreseen that having the bloke in charge of your nutrition, fitness, injury recovery and sport science working on the other side of the world while doing two other jobs wouldn't work out? Why stop here? Maybe we could dare to try something different next season as well, like playing without a goalkeeper perhaps? 11 outfielders, what's not to like? To dare is to do. |
Or play 11 goalkeepers instead? A few can venture upfield to create and score goals All 11 on the goal line trying to save a penalty Easy to play possession football passing around at the back That will boost the defence a lot and minimise injuries as they are not going to run a lot

I like the way you’re thinking Clive … see ‘out of the box’ and soon the possible will come along. I think we have actually tried the ‘no goalkeeper’ option in the past. That didn’t work either to be fair
