We need some tough, battle-hardened Championship players in there else we are in big trouble. The likes of Clint Hill and Shaun Derry.

More ballers and I can visualise Portsmouth away.

Cook aside…. Have we signed any of those for 18 months?

It seems to me they want us to accept that we are a shop
It’s all about tryouts my to earn a few quid on punts
That is only going to end one way

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

It was basically the only thing Ainsworth got right. He put a couple of blokes in there, which we need.

It’s a balance. I think we all know that. Does our DOF?

I stick by my “hairy bollocks to ballers” ratio. In any starting XI in needs to be a minimum of 6:5, ideally 7:4 and even 8:3 in certain situations.

We went into some games last season with that ratio in reverse.

We simply cannot jump from where we are in the league, financially, with this squad, to playing like Barcelona and expecting success.

It’s a slow build and a slow progression to a better quality of football that will take years. In the meantime, to enable that, we need results and to not go down.

If you build from the hairy bollocks, the ballers learn what’s required and the standards at play for work rate off the ball. That helps you too in the long term.

And if there is one thing this club needs more of, it’s standards. It’s not young ballers who want to play 10 or are under 6ft.

Watch as they comfortably take six points off us playing long ball.

Worked for Portsmouth.

Fair post and has to be addressed at the risk of getting firebombed by Marti supporters .
How big of an issue was Marti in our miserable season and was he simply too stubborn to switch his playing style knowing he did not have the skill players to implement it .
Did the players really buy in or was it just too much to handle in 3 game weeks where we always were bad on those saturdays .
Or as most fans appear to agree it was the players not the manager , time will tell of course .
But as Clive posted if Dunne, Edwards ans Saito are gone that takees a huge chunk of excellent play away and we will suffer there

I was having a similar argument with a mate who replied, is it the manager's playing style or is it the club's/Nourry's playing style?

I suppose we will get confirmation of that when the new manager finally rocks up.

Interestingly for him, and I guess for us depending on who we're looking at, there are some rules around non-UK head coaches if you want to appoint one and he doesn't quite fit them so clearly there has been some leeway offered...

This is the Wilder who is Wild about Jimmy.

So Wilder comes to us, Jimmy stays, the team gets a bit nastier as Wilder’s personality rubs off and we make the play offs, Easy peasy and no one needs to learn French though suspect our French speakers might struggle to understand his English. No more nice QPR

And then I woke up

It wasn’t a huge surprise that their ‘Championship Greatest Hits’ squad from last season, ended up staying in the Championship. Does seem like they need a change of tact.

Well you do make an interesting point about Dunne, who is a very Wilder player.
Mind you, he's also a very 'data' player, which is apparently what these new Sheff Utd owners are all about.

Wilder's aversion to signing players who are not British or Irish, combined with their owners dedication to 'AI' scouting and bringing in players from markets where they think they can get more value was never going to work.

I've always liked Wilder a lot more than most, but not getting promoted with that team, and particularly those forward options, is poor.

We did a season with Frey and Celar as our senior strikers, backed up by Kolli and Lloyd.

Sheff Utd had Kieffer Moore, Tyrese Campbell, Tom Cannon, Rhian Brewster and Ben Brereton just as their strikers. All of them would be our best forward by a mile.

That's before you get into Rak-Sakyi, Hamer, O'Hare, Souza etc v Smyth, Saito, Chair, Andersen.

Did strike me as Wilder really behind Dunne signing though. If they are changing manager, would normally mean they at least put a pause on recruitment. Hopefully still a chance we get him to stay. For him, with Wilder leaving, safe option would be to stay here. Although, would think most clubs would want him in our league on a free.

I guess it was a very similar approach to the one we took in 2013/14 except that we got the last minute winner. They didn’t. I expect the legacy will be very similar too with a squad full of high earners on long contracts coming towards the end of their careers, that will be difficult to shift

Yeah but he wasn’t competing with us. He was competing with Leeds and Burnley. And they finished 14 points clear of 4th and lost a one off game they should have won.

They did finish well clear of 4th but I wonder how much of that was down to Sunderland having nothing to play for most of the spring.

Sunderland are a good side too. Sheffield finished 21 points clear of 5th and that’s after losing 4 of last 7. They finished 34 points clear of us. 90 points is automatic normally no?

Football is such a grubby business and even with the players they had at their disposal playoffs is probably where they should have landed and did. Finals are a bit of a lottery as we know.

And they were in the automatic promotion spots, ahead of Burnley and level with Leeds, when they lost to Plymouth, Oxford and Millwall back to back. Which, like I say, with that rosta at your disposal, is pretty unforgiveable. Even we took 11 points off that shower.

Yeah they fell apart after they were top after 39 games. But look at Leeds last year and how they did this season. And also, after how Sheffield did in Premier league, I think he did well to stabilise them.

Hey, like I say, I quite like Wilder. I'd probably go round again with him if I were them.

But getting done 3-0 at home by Hull and coming out afterwards saying he was "down to the bare bones" on a night where he brought Brewster, Rak-Sakyi, Campbell AND Souza OFF THE BENCH (!!), the way he behaved after the Plymouth game where they blew it in the last ten minutes and he accused them of over celebrating (this the guy happy to be filmed dancing on tables and singing about Sausage Rohl whenever they beat Wednesday)... it wasn't a great end was it? Even the final, 1-0 up and very comfortable to 2-1 down and out in the last 15 minutes...

I cannot believe you didn't mention Jack Robinson in that list

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."
