Wrexham will be an interesting watch. They have succeeded so far by buying players from the league above which they can't really do this season. Also they play a lot of long ball which often struggles in the Championship.

If our game at home against Wrexham Is televised, you won't be seeing any football on the pitch but what you will see Is 97 minutes of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and their bloody wives and their poxy kids and their pet cats and the commentator will spend about 97 minutes talking about how bloody Ryan Reynolds and bloody Rob McElhenney saved Wrexham from a fate far worse than being relegated to the North Wales Amateur League.

And endless re-runs of the FA Cup game v Arsenal as that is quite literally the only history they have of note.

The thing at this stage is that we are QPR, so we WILL buy players and the majority of them will be huge gambles. The question then is will they come good?

If the recruitment strategy remains the same, ie: getting in "ballers" with good technique, but limited physicality, athleticism and pace, well we're fckd. If the Injuries are solved by the Scarlet Pimpernel re-emerging from the desert, we might be less fckd. If they get more pragmatic and give some steel to add to the midget army up top, then we may be less fckd. If they hurry up and sort out a manager that fits the model and is aligned with the club's philosophy, maybe we're even more less fckd.

So that's a whole heap of 6s we need to roll and with our track record as the club that will fall into a bucket of t*ts and coming our sucking our thumb, what do YOU reckon the chances are?

I see Sjoke have signed Sorba Thomas

A player I always liked but I’d hope he’s been signed two years too late.
Hopefully that is the case and sets the scene for more Sjoke signings

I do think / hope Wrexham might not do quite as well as people expect.

Indeed. Two consecutive promotions and a team starts to unravel, three is almost unprecedented. Think it’ll catch up with them, however much money they’ve got to throw at it.

Charlton do look shit, but they’re big, they close down quick and in this league if you stick with that principal, you’ll over achieve.

As for us, we do have the body of a potentially decent side. It’s the legs and arms that worry me.

I think they’ll be miles off it and would be quite content with mid-table. Obviously it remains to be seen who they bring in but the bookies have them just outside the playoffs which I think is far too short.

Where is this body of a decent side? We won 3 of our last 13 games last season and Dunne, Saito and Edwards are seemingly gone from even that team.

OK, challenge accepted.

Let's start with some assumptions.
Most of the 1st team squad will not be injured come August. That's not normally a wild thought.
Rangers find a way of keeping Dunne, but release Fox, Colback and Andersen.
That leaves:-
Nardi, Walsh, Cooper, Salamon
Dunne, Morrison, Cook, JCS, Larkeche, Esquerdinha
Varane, Field, Vale
Smyth, Dembele, Morgan, Madsen, Chair, Sutton
Frey, Kelman, Celar, Kolli, Lloyd.

Thats probably not a top 6 squad but, if injuries are a fraction of last season, its a mid table side.
The doubts, for me, are lack of defensive cover, physicality and pace.

If that is the squad I too would have issues with the defence but also the midfield. We desperately need a good box to box no. 8 who can play the ball forward.

That squad is weak as pss; sorry, mate.

GKs OK
Defence - CBs OK, no full back on either side - desperately bad
Midfield - defensively OK, but no creative spark in there or ability to take the ball on the turn
Wingers / Attacking Midfield - Chair championship quality; none of the others. Smyth - effort yes, no end product, Dembele - if he doesn't bulk up during the close season, his talents are worthless at this level, can't defend; Madsen - given time, can pick a pass, but no defensive bone in his body; Sutton / Morgan - kids
Up front - unacceptable this season, no-one fit to play any more than 30 games, Celar woeful aside from 2 goals and about 30 minutes out of 18 games. Kelman a wild card, but I can't see him staying or, if he does, he leaves for nothing.

So much work to do - first choice left and right back, creative / box to box midfielder, two wingers and a regularly available striker needed to make the first eleven passable. Oh, and probably a CB as JCS / Cook won't make 40 games between them next season.

Its early in the summer, but as things stand, we're in the brown stuff YET AGAIN.

Can we go out yet?

When I mention the body, I’m referring to the spine of the side, it really isn’t that bad.

Personally think Marti was a lot to do with our shortfalls. The obsession with only two in centre midfield exposed us when the midgets were dispossessed and that was often. That made it a difficult season for the fullbacks, they all struggled, Dunne the only one who really coped with the issue.

My assumption is the next manager might be a little less foolhardy.

Fair post and has to be addressed at the risk of getting firebombed by Marti supporters .
How big of an issue was Marti in our miserable season and was he simply too stubborn to switch his playing style knowing he did not have the skill players to implement it .
Did the players really buy in or was it just too much to handle in 3 game weeks where we always were bad on those saturdays .
Or as most fans appear to agree it was the players not the manager , time will tell of course .
But as Clive posted if Dunne, Edwards ans Saito are gone that takees a huge chunk of excellent play away and we will suffer there

Any coach QPR appoint will need to play the club's "game model" of a "433 with a mid block out of possession." This is one of the reasons MC is not here: he realised he could not get the points required with that set-up using these players and was most profitable with an extra midfielder and defending deeper. So that's what he did. It wasn't pretty. It had the CEO screaming and kicking the hoardings in the directors box. But it kept QPR up. And partly got him the sack.

You can dream about a tough old manager coming in and imposing is own "less foolhardy" system. But he'll be gone if he does (or Nourry and probably De Sousa will).

It's not a secret. Nourry did that Radio London interview last September saying that was the club "game model" throughout the age groups and the reason why they appointed Cifuentes (back when he still wanted credit for that).

It's here, exactly:

Music to our ears, apparently. So expect a coach appointed who'll play only 433.

Now, here's the next test. Pick a 433 team from our current squad, bearing in mind how good and powerful your full backs must be, how strong , fit and deadly your 9 must be, plus at least one relentless box-to-box midfielder.

Of course, this is QPR and we'll sign loads of players as usual. But will we find a suitably brilliant but obedient coach? Let's see.

I agree there is a solid spine. With Nardi- Clarke-Salter-Morrison/Cook- Field/ Varane/ Chair. That’s at least 6 out of a first 11 of very competent Championship players.Frey will contribute again. And likes of Kelman/Dembele/Koli/Vale/Morgan and even Larkeche have the potential to kick on and really perform well in this league for us

The optimist in me wants to believe that the club have made progress on some signings/renewals. But are waiting for being able to confirm the new manager before they release that information to give the appearance of that managers buy in to the signings. Big week for the club needed as some announcements needed by them to start building some optimism and faith that we are assembling a decent team

To some extent I get it. They’re buying a profile and potential and think their chances of turning him into a player worth more are good enough. But the fee just doesn’t stack up against those odds IMO. They’re seeing something we don’t but then more than one big club wanted him.

Does make £5m for Varane look a bit meh all of a sudden.
