Sir Niall Ferguson has been warning for years that when China decides to take Taiwan, which President Xi has publicly vowed to do by 2027, then that is the danger point.
If China blockades Taiwan (which they are practicing) then the US has to decide if they are prepared to break it, the Cuban missile crises in reverse.
Thousands of US and allied nation military will die (including UK) if they try, but don't defend Taiwan and all credibility is lost.
Communist China dominates the Pacific and becomes the dominate global power. American empire ends and we live in a Chinese world of mass surveillance etc.
I'm no warmonger, but US strikes against Iran are actually a good thing to try and avert the above nightmare scenario. Maximum deterant to warn others.

I don't normally get involved in political threads, but this one I will....
For nearly 50 years Iran has caused mayhem around the Middle East. Arming and controlling proxy armies with the stated aim of destroying Israel (and killing numerous British soldiers over the years).
The AEA 2 weeks ago reported Iran was breaking the agreements in place and then Iran declared it was speeding up and expanding enrichment. It admitted it, the first time in decades that it has told the truth. That was the trigger for Israel.
It is an authoritarian regime that has murdered its own people over decades and exported death. They are reaping what they sowed.

Reminds me of a bunch of grifters years ago who said there were Weapons of Mass Destruction abouts to be used by another regime in the area and off to war we jolly well went and the needless loss of countless UK lives and actual cost in money as well.

For what it's worth... Trump has possibly been dragged kicking and screaming into the decision to bomb Iran. He's been desperate to leave them alone because his mate Putin has been buying attack drones etc from Iran and by being involved it potentially incurs the wrath of Putin if they can't buy their weapons to attack Ukraine as a result of this intervention. |  |

With the UK supplying arms, Intel and troop training for Israel for decades now I would say it has a lot to with the UK.
The only people who profit from war are the arms manufacturers.
I get the strong impression from the US that Trump wants war as his ratings are plummeting and since Musk revealed that his name appears multiple times in the Epstein files, he is actively trying to bury that news.

Upvoted by mistake.
It's not that terrible regimes don't exist in the region or that every single aspect of them is the West/US's fault. But there has for many decades been enormous overt and covert manipulation of such by the West. 'We' often (not always) support, even fund or help to create, such regimes when it suits certain agendas, often to later turn against them and use them as an excuse for military action when they have become expendable. I don't know how people can pretend otherwise.
Saddam's rise, rule and the subsequent Iraq 'wars' is the perfect, undeniable, case in point. 100's of thousands murdered, increase in regional instability, many UK/US soldiers killed or back home traumatised mostly ignored by their governments. No winners there except the Money Machine.
The War Machine is a, if not the, key driver in the World economy. And it is voracious and Evil. It will use any side, any religion, any creed, any race, any historical situation, any crazed power hungry ego, any situation and often flip flop between 'sides' to ensure the stoking and continuation of conflict.
As Ted points out it's the normal man, woman and families that mostly suffer at the hands of what is basically a game for it's crazed power base.
I don't want to get drawn into a debate on sides.
