Athletic are reporting he's set to join as a defensive coach. Quite the structure coming into place

"QPR have identifed lack of high potential defenders across Europe's top 5 leagues and believe Bould's expertise will have mid-to-long term benefits for the club"

Do we need a "summer backroom staff rumours" thread?

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

Given his coaching career so far it does seem a bit odd that he'd be willing to drop down to not even a #2 job in the championship, but this looks like a cracking appointment on paper.

Worth noting that he's just spent three years managing Lommel, which is Koki Saito's parent club.

Interesting that he was head coach of Lommel SK. Where Koki Saito was loaned from.

Just seen above comment. Not that interesting then...........

Does seem promising, and potentially a very good fit after reading the below in Clive's column on Stephan.

"Things started to sour at Rennes and they stumbled to tenth in the French Ligue 1 only Monaco and PSG scored more goals than them. Defence? Here’s a plan with some chest hair."

Came back to London for family reasons in January, so this might have legs.

QPR planning mid to long term? What is this wizardry?

Some of the Nourry comms and stuff pees me off ( while recognizing as an older fan my likes for content and comms may very different to the younger fans) but we do seem to have a plan for development and sustainable growth which is a massive plus .

Waste of money - our defenders looked high for most of the season anyway

I don't think so, they are part of the City Group

Steve Bould would be an excellent addition to the club have to say.

It is difficult as, as many of us have made it clear, Nourry really rubs me up the wrong way with the mini dictator appearance and trickling and hiding of information BUT it does seem like he has a genuine plan for the club. A lot of it is PR but I can't recall the club appearing to have a concrete plan like this during my thirty odd years of being a fan - and it could all fall down spectacularly but it does seem promising.

I was a huge fan of Cifuentes and it will be a long time before I let that one go from my grudges but I am actually tentatively excited about the club today.

Grandmaster of the nasty slide tackle from behind.
To be fair, he was a great defender in his day. If he can pass on some of that to our youngsters that can only be a good thing.

100%, exactly my feelings.

I've really not been a Nourry fan, but on paper there are some pretty impressive moves been made here (the nuts Ben Williams fudging aside) and I'd say getting Steve Bould in is top among them. If transfer rumours are true, it even sounds like big lessons were learnt from last year's incoherent, inexperienced trolley dash.

Also getting quietly excited about the season... words I'll probably regret by October! Now if we can just get a refund on Madsen...

Looks a good introduction to the new back room team and a great background. Focus on the defensive coaching is key, making it happen through the age groups as well gives us continuity through to the first team.
Good appointment 👏

Quite impressed by what he has to say from reading that interview on the offish.

Especially this:

“The only respect you get is if you can give the players something that they take with them,” he said. “They don't give you any respect for your career. Most of them don't know it anyway!”

and this:

“Throughout the coaching system we have all had to up our game but I think one thing that has been forgotten is the actual technique of defending individually.

“So I think there's a place, from the younger ages, to maybe instil a bit of that within them. I'm really looking forward to trying to help them understand the technique of defending.

Perhaps Bould's appointment will give us the edge in the signing of Amadou Mbengue.

Appears to be a very good appointment, 7 years as Wenger's assistant and other experience since all bodes well. Could be great for Dunne and Morrison in particular

Yeah no question that on paper that’s a tremendous bit of business getting Bould in .

Only downside would wages , but other than that he could be key
